i don't see why anyone would enjoy listening to this cover or the 2 previous tracks....check out Easy Star All Stars cover of Dark Side of the Moon. now THATS a good fucking cover. Reggae versions of these songs = cool shit
Its a collaboration between the Lips, Stardeath and Rollins and its really good. Its one of those albums that makes more sense and gets awesommmmer the more times you spin it. Especially in the headphones so you can hear the Lips' cool little sound additions.
Great cover of an EPIC album. I love when talented musicians try to convey their interpretation on a piece of music that inspires them; because isn't that what music is all about? Trying to reach out and really speak to someone in a way that is beautiful and relate-able. I also love Pretty Lights remix of "Time", another great cover IMO.
@davekm43 Nope, you're wrong. On wikipedia it says clearly: "Track 3 is performed by Stardeath and White Dwarfs". While track 4 for example says: "Track 4 is performed by The Flaming Lips featuring Henry Rollins & Peaches.".
people need to chill their sacks, Flaming Lips aren't trying to be Pink Floyd. if they were they would be a tribute band, but they're not. by any means. They're the Flaming Lips. and they're paying tribute to one of the best. Not trying to be them.
What most people don't seem to realize is that this cover ISN'T The Flaming Lips. It's Stardeath & White Dwarfs. Check wikipedia if you don't believe me :)
Que buen disco tributo, la unica que no me gustó mucho es la de money, esta muy plana, en la original hay 2 solos, uno de sax y otro de guitarra electrica, y esta como que muy simplona, pero todo este album está de poca madre, chingon, super recomendado!! Yeah!!
The original has always stood among my favorite albums, and will never lose it's spot. Now, this cover of the entire album is no where near as good as Floyd's original, but I gotta say, the Lips have done this album some justice! I dig it.
I can't wait to see them perform this at Red Rocks this summer, coheadlining with Primus!
if you listen to this song, or the whole album, expecting to hear something like the original from artists that have done nothing but very original music their whole lives, you are going to be disappointed. Instead, try to listen to it with an open mind, as if you are hearing it for the first time. That is easier said than done considering everyone and their mother knows this album forwards and back. But if you can get past that, I think you will find that this album has a lot to offer.
@ElvisDelvisPelvis Well said, when listening to covers that's the best thing to do, as great as the original is it's great to see someone take such a well known album & do there own thing.
The thing is, I much prefer the original, and this version, due to me hearing the other version, is no where near as good. But you do need to appreciate how when they covered it, they didnt copy, they made it their own. That in a way is the best way to cover, otherwise its just the same song sung by someone else. I love The flaming lips and I really respect them for not simply copying the song
Personally, I only really like the "Ticking away.." and similar sections (the verses? It's hard to apply traditional structure names to this song). These parts do what a cover of a well known song should do: they provide something new and interesting. They're significantly different than the original, but they don't fall so dismally short of it as the other parts of the song do. They play off of what you expect from a song you know so well.
They killed it, and I'm serious, it sounds like some whiny kid singing it while he's walking to school. They even cut out the guitar solo, which is not the whole song, but a HUGE part of it. Disgraceful, completely disgraceful.....
@davekm43 def, i do enjoy hearing different versions tho. Music is fun, and the album they are covering is HUGE, that is an understatement. I have listened to pink floyds dark side of the moon so much, that hearing other artist cover it and cover it well....fuck yea!
@TheLittlechibit I heard about this version and wanted to check it out because I heard it was a great version, unfortunately, as I found out, it wasn't. I have an appreciation for covers, that's why I checked this out, chill.
Yeah I miss the guitar solo myself. But I think the main reason they left it out is because it is so good. It's so iconic. And trying to come up with something to top or try to redo would be great disservice. I could have easily messaged this too you but I would like to see how other people fee about. I ask you cause you don't care for the song and I would like a different view on the matter cause a different view is what I would like.
@heretherenothing Funny how some people can go on about opening your mind or like the this version. When it's just a different view of this song but once someone says oh I don't like you all attack this person. Hmm? hypocrisy?
@TheLittlechibit I think his comment is fair, he is entitled to his opinion, at least he wasn't insulting. He doesn't like it , but I do as you do I believe, but I also prefer the original album.
@stude444 more energetic?? are you fucking kidding me? when the vocals come in, it gets all soft....way more soft than the original...it is not more energetic and intense and even if it was its still dull and shitty....none of these guys can play a guitar solo?
its obvious that these guys are trying way too hard to sound psychedelic and experimental when they should know it sounds like shit.
the original is way more energetic than this...the original is groovy (at least for the verse parts)
@freddiebarry93 Intesity isn't just loudness, it's an emotion, and the feelings really come across more through his vocal, the original has more grove to it, but it's not like these guys can't groove, like when Breathe picks up, the bass is just pulsating. And yeah, they sound harsh, but that's how they always sound, thats what any self respecting Stardeath/Lips fan would come to expect, it obviously doesn't sound like shit to most people. Softness isn't a bad thing. It never has been.
@stude444 i don't even think PF's "Time" is intense. the intro is psychedelic, the verses are groovy/funky, and the chorus is symphonic. when i think "intense", i think of "In the Flesh", "Empty Spaces", "Run Like Hell", "Waiting for the Worms", "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Set the Controls...", "Interstellar Overdrive" and so on...
and i have no problem whatsoever with soft music. if i did i wouldn't be a real PF fan, but their music transgresses from soft to intense, and light to dark...
@freddiebarry93 I guess this comes down to just differing tastes, I think these guys did the album justice, it will never over shadow the original, but the original was never my favorite PF album, I'm also a long time fan of the Flaming Lips, so I guess I could see why someone with a different background wouldn't like this. Sorry for being an ass about it. But it's youtube, it's just a song, and no matter who plays it, it's still great.
@Rockerboy3872 I love the first version way more, but this is an incredible one too.. The first minute sucks though.. the coughing gets annoying. Of course nothing casn beat the actual pink floyd, but you gotta give them credit.
this is a very good band playing pink floyd the way they like. get over it ppl and turn the volume up.
