  • beautiful!

  • In the early twentieth century, this set was in the CaiLiFo, was taken around 1940 by the HG, at first called 'Tiger Tail Simple Saber'' (虎尾单刀) and many of its original movements were 'hungarizated'. He was in both arms (TangFong, LamSaiWing) was later re-named in each branch and also changed some movements.

    SIFU

  • That was badass. :D

  • nice 1

  • This is to Hungkyun. Hung Gar has a long history and is a very large system and have many branches and lineages. It went through a lot of changes through time so some of the forms may not look the same but has the same name. Sometime they have different names but look the same. If the contents are Hung Gar then it is Hung Gar. I studied over 40 yrs of Hung Gar and I am still learning. Thank you and good luck!

  • i know this same form but i have quite a bit of various techniques that are different

  • I've also noticed some of the Hung Ga forms/weapons will have derivatives of similar names - like Dan Fu Jow or Seurng Fu Jow. Just as most kung fu systems within the same regions will have the same weapon, but call it a different name (broadsword, staff, gim, spear), Hung Ga lineages will have similarities and differences. That's great you're studying with Wong Lee, a good Hung Ga sifu is hard to find. Best of luck in your training.

  • If you only learned the Ng Lung Ba Gwa Gwun and the Ji Mo Seurng Do in your Hung Ga training, I wouldn't go around with the call name "Hungkyun". You may not have learned it, but this form is part of the Yee's Hung Ga curriculum.

  • Hey I really liked the form I just saw. In my lineage, Lam Sai Wing - Wong Lee - My Sifu, the name of our butterfly sword form is called Hang Yuet Seurng Do, which has the same name as your broadsword form except it's double (seurng) instead of single (darn). Do you know what the origin of the Hang Yuet Darn Do is? Do you know if Wong Fei Hung practiced it? Cause I've realized that most of the weapons practiced in todays hung gar are adopted and not practiced by Wong Fei Hung himself.

  • I wonder if the origins of my lineages butterfly swords and yees broadsword form has any relation since it has the same name.

We do have a broadsword form called Pekwa Dan Do, but it was taken from the Tai Shen Pekwa system which is monkey based. Most of Lam Sai Wings students practice it.

  • This is no Hung Gar Form. Hung Gar only has two weaponforms (sometimes 3). The 8 Diagramm Pole and the Mother and Son Twin Knives. This Form meight to be a Choy Li Fut Form. It is also the 1. Form of old school Wushu ( Chuchi Dao)

  • @hungkyun ah yeah Hung Ga has way more weapons then 2, lam sai wing brought a lot of weapons into the system. Who is your sifu and what school are you from.

  • Yes it is. It's Hung Ga's Broadsword (Hang Yuet Darn Do, phonetically).

  • Nice sword form! Is that a Hung Ga form?
