  • What I don't like about the Goldstrike Casino is it's not ticket-n-ticket out.. You have to wait for a hand pay.. hate it.. If they go down, it's because they are behind the times.

  • They had really good comps there.. I'm sad too.. they tore it down and now there's nothing but weeds growing in it's place.. Very sad indeed..

  • Thank you for this great video with narration. Boy it's funny to hear the big plans they had for Jean before the economy and housing tanked.

  • I remember going there on the way to LA to visit family and eating in the coffee shop before hitting the road. Now I have to wait all the way till I get to Victorville!

  • What makes it so silly to have torn this hotel down, was that it was making $5 million a year. In Las Vegas terms, a $5 million profit a year is chickenfeed. But they didn't have to do anything extra to get it. It was a cash cow - you don't have to put new money in it, just keep it running and reap the cash. They tore down a perfectly good hotel/casino to make yet another casino - which hasn't happened yet - and instead of an effortless $5 million a year, they're getting nothing. Very dumb.

  • @ROGER2095 MGM believes the new master planned development in this area will generate more than $5 million.

  • Three years later, and there's been no development. The Shell station is still open, but that's it. There's just a vacant lot where the hotel/casino was. Too bad...if I recall correctly, it was my mother's favorite casino.

  • Three years later, there's just a sign, with peeling paint, and a vacant lot. Nothing has been developed. Too bad...if I recall correctly, it was my mother's favorite casino.

  • I used to hang out there when it was Pop Oasis Casino.......met Flip Wilson in there one night.

  • @MuleKist Wow, you go back before 1992 then before it was built. Do you remeber a small place called Cactus Kates nearbye? Not sure if it was a small casino/bar but I rember seeing it on drives to Vegas in the mid to late 1980's.

  • Did this place used to be called "Pops" Casino around 1982-84? Was is just down the road from "The Tower" ????

  • The only thing left now is the frame of the sign.

  • Its a shame they had great food deals and a nickel arcade

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember recently driving by and it's amazing how bare the space is now.

  • It's NEVADA.

    Not NEV-AHH-DA.

  • Now that I'm 26 I only go to indian casnios here in Ca. Hope to go to stateline soon because I miss it but unfortunately I won't be able to go to NL again :(

  • It really sucks it's not there anymore. I have fond memories of staying over there as a kid with my family. I wasn't old enough to gamble at the time but I remember I loved hanging out in the arcade and going to the snack bar to get some mozzarella sticks. From there we'd go to Whiskey Petes, Buffalo Bills and Primadonna, we wouldn't even go to Vegas sometimes. Ah those were the good old days.

  • Many people went on a dig here recently to dig up old obsolete Pop's Oasis casino chips and tokens that were originally buried in the foundation and cement pored on top of. This is a Nevada custom and a way to get rid of a closed casinos entire chip run. I have seen the dig chips sell on Ebay for some decent money and some look cool encased or infused in cement with pieces sticking out. Too bad she is gone.

  • 3 weeks ago I drove by where the nevada landing used to be. It's just an empty lot.

The NL and the slots-of-fun are my two favorite casinos.

    It's a shame it's gone.

  • I have been buying and trading silver strikes ($10. gaming tokens)with the NL since early2004 and I've stopped there maybeee 15 or 20 times. I miss the NL. Its a shame its gone. Thank you for posting video of the casino. Its appreciated.

  • This casino was so pretty!

Whenever my family goes we usually stay at Gold Strike, and its such joy to look across and see this!

too bad it was closed down =(

  • On February 12, 2007 MGM Mirage announced plans to close the casino on April 18, 2007 and build a master planned community on the 166 acres it owns in the area in a joint venture with American Nevada Corp. and the Cloobeck Cos.

  • I was an employee of the NL for 18 years. When the notice came that we were closing, most of us were moved to the GS across the street. But the real truth...a lot of loyal employees, such as myself were termed with no hopes of employment within MGM. Theres your MGM and how they truly treat people.

  • @JBird1964 Wow you must have alot of memories from the guests to all of the employees over those 18 years. I am now 40 and have been going to Vegas since I was 14 and it's amazing now how many Vegas visitors from the 80's/90's are no longer alive----or for whatever reason no longer visit Vegas......and they are replaced with younger and younger generations of people who flock there 2-4 times(or more) a year.

  • @patr70 A lot of memories....good and bad...and some damn good people worked there for many years...It was funny how they shut down the NL but not the GS across the street when the NL made more money than the GS. MGM supposedly was going to rebuild a casino and create housing but I hear they scraped those ideas. Though I loved the Landing and the people there and miss it and them, my feelings for MGM have not changed. They truly are an evil empire and need to lose everything.

  • @JBird1964 I worked there also from 1989 to 1995. Barbara Queen was my boss.

  • @cinerama62 Yes, Barbara was one of my bosses too, along with Dennis V., Bruce B., and Barbara P. Were you a dealer?

  • @JBird1964 They were my bosses' also.

  • @cinerama62 A dealer? Blackjack or Craps?

  • @JBird1964 Blackjack and Roulette from 89 to 1995. All 3 shifts.

  • @cinerama62 You remember a Craps dealer named Jay? :)

  • @JBird1964 Yes i do Jay. You were into Star Trek, went out with a girl named Laray ?

  • @cinerama62 Were you a dealer there?

  • @JBird1964 Yes.

  • its very nice looking, even if the looks are just a facade it still looks very nice its gorgious too bad they are ripeing down a building that is not that old. That is nevada though they tear down buildings at the drop of a hat some relly historical casinos too like the sands, and the aladen. a shame.

  • Thank You! The Nevada Landing Casino was shut down in February, 2 months earlier than planned because most of the employees left.

  • @Ippysan It actually closed around March 19th. All the employees left because they were lied to and told that they would be hired thru a job fair or transfered to the sister casino across the highway. But that didnt happen.. I was told that I would be transferred to the GS one day, then told I was let go the next day...they did this to a lot of good people. I wish the best for the people of the NL and GS, but MGM needs to go..it is destroying the essence of what Las Vegas was...

  • @Ippysan

it's been 4 yrs. still no airport...

  • Interesting work. According to wikipedia, the Nevada Landing opened in 1989. I was 4 years old at the time and have seen it numerous times from the I-15. I heard that the Nevada Landing has indeed closed.

  • Always very interesting, keep up the good work!
