Maybe its just me, but this anime would have been MUCH better if it had just been about Parn and his group. The whole things with Sparky(or what ever) didn `t interest me at all.

The opening is one of the best, I think.

Personally, I found the song to be the actual best part of this animu.

The second half goes on about a whole host of characters who aren't Parn and crew, and who absolutely didn't interest me in the slightest, and the changes it made to the "history" set out in the original OVA were usually for the worse. It was like the characters were high on stupid pills or something.

...Glad Pirotess doesn't die/get abandoned in this one though.

@Phandiw totally agree...tho fun fact - from what I understand..the TV series follows more closely to the original replays/manga...the original OVA actually has the adjusted history where the Spark generation is is totally cut and worked into the Parn story, which I also found much better :)

@ajb1290 As far as I know there is a Tv wersion and an OVA. I did not watch the Tv wersion but I heard it takes place after OVA.

@Usagisensei It does take place time wise after the OVA, but it also retcons a lot of the OVA. I also found it dragged on a bit. The TV series was called Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight

This opening was so awesome. I cannot believe how crappy the quality of the TV series animation was, after this beautiful opening. They couldn't afford the same animators or something. As it is, the old OAVs are so much better.

Weird hearing people say the OVA was better animated than the TV series. Except for the first 3 episodes, the OVA animation was pretty awful. In both cases however, great openings with original themes. Better than current anime which often uses a J Pop song as the theme to promote the band.

@Tai223235 Often a label such as Sony will contribute money for an anime's production and in return one of the label's bands will have their songs used as the op and closing themes. Not that I dislike J Pop in general but to me it shows an attention to detail to have a composer come in and write music specifically for a series.

Both Chronicles and the OVA were amazing. I personally like Chronicles because it deals more wtih Orson and Shiris than the OVA, and the introduction of Maar made it even better!

After this intro was drawn, the company executed all the animators and outsourced the work to a zoo primate house, which is why the series ended up looking the way it did.

You can actually see gorilla feces in some of the frames that they weren't able to wipe off entirely.

The OVA was just called "Record of Lodoss War", while the TV series was called "Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight".

A lot of people like the OVA better, but I personally preferred the TV series more.
