  • Rhonda makes the best point of all, the one that needs to be addressed first.

If religion is so true, WHY does it need to be taught? why isnt "jesus" in our brain upon birth. why sunday school, bible lessons, bible camp, etc. Why does it have to be taught? why do people believe what is in their region.

I think the "jesus is the one true god" thing is an excuse for them to go out and shove their cult onto everyone else. then they wrap it up in the term "GOOD NEWS"

  • It may be that religion is the best approximation that humans could make in an attempt to explain their mystical experiences. Leaving doctorine and orthodoxy aside, the question of whether there is a purpose for human life, or not, is still a valid question. Either point of view requires an unprovable assumption. Some Physicists think there many be other physical dimensions, unseen by us, that may convey forces - and the conveyance of energy is required for all communication. (Continued)

  • There may be a conduit of communication which we cannot analyse but which could give rise to "spiritual" experiences. It also seems logical that today's religions are added-to extensions of ancient mythologies. The only thing certain is that we cannot be certain if we do or do not have a purpose determined by someone or something outside of our own experience. As Stephen Hawking wrote, we may someday explain how the universe was created but we will not be able to answer why.

  • deserlight, Interesting comment and input.

I don't believe something or someone supernatural outside of myself is determining anything in my life. I know that if my brain activity ceases - so will my thoughts. Outside of my biological functions, I'm only comprised of my own thoughts. That sense of individuality is as spiritual as I'm ever going to be. It's all I need to be, really. ;)

  • If you're happy that's good enough for me. Though I personally think there could be a purpose I am not arrogant enough to declare that others must believe as I do. I cannot understand how anyone can declare that their religious club is only way, or worse, that something bad should happen to others who believe differently. Perhaps the way to tolerance is education, particularly of history and anthropology. It seems that religious bigotry is inversely proportional to factual education.

  • desertlight, Such wise words. I don't see how anyone could have said it better. Education helps others to understand that life just doesn't revolve around them. Books can open people's minds. The best way to find a sense of purpose, is by sharing experiences and ideas with others who differ from us. We all have something to learn from each other, every day.

  • Believers baffle me. I'm so glad that no religion was imposed on me when I was growing up. No matter how you phrase it, it seems so silly to believe in fairytales.

    But, that's just me...

    *hugs*

Hope you had a good weekend!

  • I'm glad you grew up spending your time on more productive and pleasant things. You're a fine example and absolute proof that it isn't indicative to have religious upbringing to have good character and a kind heart. *hugs*

  • i'm glad it wasn't imposed on you. very glad. for me and my sisters, it was shoved down with a toilet plunger. my parents were fanatical xians, and the stuff that happened and the things we lost were beyond description. It's a horrible thing to suffer under this kind of fundamentalism

  • GodLessRant, I'm sorry you went through that and I'm glad you are free of it now. I'm glad I am also. We can't change the past, but at least we can make choices based on reason and look at people and the world without being bound by a useless dogma.

  • yep it sucks but at least we're clear of it, true. it's not so bad now except for the PTSD left over from all that sh-it. at least we can maybe help others from being hurt in it for too long

  • then you were indeed very FORTUNATE. want to switch upbringings with me? LOL

  • I saw a plastic cheeses on a car's dashboard. It spoke to me and said, ''I was made in China.'' I told it that it can't possibly talk, that it's only plastic. It just looked at me and never spoke again.

  • DieselBodine, And so you discovered the mystery of cheeses. LOL

  • Get behind me Loose Iffer, in the name of Cheeses.

  • how dare you mock the Holey Name of the Lard Cheesus Crust! Do not BlASSpheme the Holey Spirt, he is the Alfalfa and the Omega (fatty acids)

  • I believe in the Lard Cheeses Chrust, the one true way. He is knocking on the door to your stomach, let him in. Eat his dough and drink his paste and you shall have everlasting peace (well at least till you get hungry again).

He came and was baked for our transgressions, 3 hours in the oven and then rose again to ascend (our heavenly mouths)

He suffered and was grated and rolled for to save us all from eternal starvation. Do not mock the sacred roundness of his Holey Spirt

  • moomay, Thanks! :)

  • hipmama75, It is saturated. You notice that once you step outside the box.

  • 2:06 Who I find hard to understand are superstitious non-believers -- the ones that read their horoscopes and believe them; they shiver when a black cat crosses in front of them and expect the world to end in 2012.

  • InReasonWeTrust, It's a hard habit for most people to break.

  • Have you ever wanted to stop someone trying to evangelize you and just shake their shoulders in a firm grasp saying, "Dude! You believe a donkey spoke Hebrew! Snap out of it, man"?

  • "Dude! You believe a donkey spoke Hebrew! Snap out of it, man"?

My friend's parrot speaks Yiddish and Pig Latin. Does that make me crazy? My friend is a little bit as he teachs weird stuff to parrots.

  • TheSunkenGrave, I've actually brought that up to a person before, who approached me in a parking lot. I kept bringing up lots of things in the bible. He told me that wasn't true and walked away. I tried to keep the conversation going but I think the bible talk scared him. Some people don't know all those silly things are in the bible, that pass out the pamphlets.

  • I knock on wood. It's silly, and I know it doesn't actually do anything, but I still do it. Humans can only try to be rational. We are emotional organisms that are inclined towards superstition, I think.

  • My father (also an atheist) always puts his shoes and socks on in the same order. I don't. Once I broke the right sock, left sock, right shoe rule, right in front of him. :O

    I'm such a rebel! ;p

  • Heresy!

I'm surprised he didn't take the belt to your rebellious ass.

I'm not sure what order I put my shoes and socks on. I don't pay attention. However, I suspect that I put my socks on first :P

  • premed2, Very bold! haha

  • CadicusTheDamned, Apparently so!

  • I love this video Rhonda! Sadly, logic isn't a tool used by fundamentalist Christians.

  • shellknob, Glad you liked the video. Great point! :)

  • That was really good.. Pre-scientific peoples with no understanding of the natural world or the scientific method attempting to explain Existence or the "problem" of Change in the Universe through stories and intentionality is perfectly understandable.. now it's just fucking goofy.

  • SofaKingLoaded, Exactly. Now there isn't any excuse!

  • Good video. I need to do a video or two today myself.

  • clicb4, Thank you!

  • In the 70's my mom had her "open mind" phase and was searching for the one true correct religion. Funny thing is she only considered various Protestant denominations as potential truth holders.

  • bowlingballout, She probably considered them more bible-based than the idol-worshipping Catholics! Funny how that goes.

  • My favorite part of your videos are how much like a calm Sunday school teacher you appear. And the music in the background. I could listen for an hour. Better yet, going to go back and re-listen right now.

  • mwest1234, Thanks my friend. Always like hearing from you!

  • Good vlog Rhonda. I believe in puppies and kittens and walks in the woods. I believe in a warm fire while watching the snow fall gently to the earth. I believe in children with their chocolate covered smiles. I believe in love and peace. I believe he ain't heavy, he's my brother. Helping the homeless, feeding the poor. I believe in humanity and I believe we will eventually evolve and celebrate diversity and love will reign supreme. WorldPeace, celebrate diversity & Evolve People! ~ Dali G.

  • dakugiddess2006, I completely agree with you!

What a great world it would be if everyone thought like you! Thank you Dali. :)

  • I think many people believe that if lots of folks stopped believing in god that it would destroy our civilization. My own personal hunch is that it would force us to actually talk to each other instead of an invisible friend. This would in the long run greatly strengthen or civilization.

  • KasparHauser4, It would be a much better world if we started talking with each other again. If we shared - not only our successes, but also our weaknesses - this would in fact give us a better support network and improve the state of our affairs. People hide behind their faith and deny they have honest fears of living in a difficult world, which can't be solved by an imaginary friend, but by cooperation and support of one another.

  • Interesting topic, Rhonda. We live in a country called America where the dominant religion is Christianity and this religion is so embeded in our culture and way of life that we will be exposed to it in one form or another. As for decling from the faith, the superstition is not the only factor. A lot of time, it's things that cause a person to loose their faith or an action of wrong committed against the person who lost their faith. Great video.

  • Chuloloc, It seems to be a long process for some and a quick one for others, but I agree.

    Something triggers the questioning.

  • Yeah, the triggering is not limited to only one particular factor but vast varieties.

  • Rhonda, it's so nice seeing you again, I've missed you. I've been busy with my new pup who won't give me time to be on YT but I love him. Happy New Year my friend

  • Ohhhhh, please make some videos of your new pup! Share him with the YouTube community. We love puppies. They grow up so fast.

  • Man I hadn't thought of that. I will

  • Coolsome. =D

  • Fringe111, It's great hearing from you. I'm glad you got a new pup. You know how I feel about dogs! They rule my world!..and pretty much run my life! I have spoiled rotten brats and I'm more than happy to spoil them. LOL

  • I've already shot it and am putting up today. He's a 9 week old Golden Retriever and he's just adorable. I'll also send it to you
