@tread64eight it was so long ago... but answers are: I didn't do that for money but for satisfaction, and yes - it was worth it.

It would be very dificult to put turbo into that setup, becouce carbs need vacuum, not the pressure.

@imintheshed firstly, if they are so nice, why is there a need to "pimp it up" a original 82 scirocco would have so much more character than a pimped up one, and I happen to know a fair bit about cars, i happen to own a 1982 1.6 gti scirocco and i have kept it original, as it would have been when it came out of the factory.

@andrewz105 as it came out of the factory?.. u sure? except the faded paint and the odd rust patch, but you could give it a strip down, repair and a plain gloss respray... and what about that already lame and by now tired 1.6 engine? if you had the skills you could drop a low milage 2.0 16v in there... oops it would seem we have "pimped" the car.

@imintheshed well, put it this way, if i wanted to do up my 1.6 litre scirocco, i wouldnt bother with a dogy respray, i would spend the money and take it to a classic car restoration center and have the rust and the paintwork sorted out properly and no i wouldnt change the engine, i would have mine rebuilt if it needed it, If it aint broke dont fix it.

@Dettengines  Idiot. there was no 16v in 1982 That did not come along till 1987. The Sciroccos had a 1.6up until 84, then it was a 1.8 8v, and then in 87 along came the 16v. Nice try though

god i miss my scirocco it was an 87 with a 16v twin cam , the only mods i had was a racing intake cam , high flow exhaust and a larger air intake but that bitch was hot and it would scream down the freeway. it was quite competitive with mustangs, camaros and most other imports. what a car that was. after that i was hooked on vw.

u watch this shit and you realise how pish new cars are, and im 19, i am pretty disappointed that no stuff like this gets brought out now, its all computerised pish nowadays. my dad owns a 1.8 8v carburetted scirocco (apparently 125 bhp only) and it made a fool out of a brand new golf GTI thathas a 2l turbo and apparently 200 bhp. what a sad state of affairs.

Idiot. A stock 1.8 8v is 90 hp, a stock 2.0 16v is 134, with some head work, cams, header, and carbs, he probably pushing close to 180 in a car that probably weighs1600-1800lbs. Think before you oper your mouth

Scirocco's never had a stock carbed 1.8. The MK1's had a 1.7 that was carbed early on, but all later models had CIS injection. If it was a 1.8, it started with 90hp. If it had carbs, then IT WAS NOT STOCK. I seriously doubt someone would go through the expense of carbs, and not do anything else to the motor. Go back to fucking your sister and your mother.....oh wait, they're the same person. Hick

Ok here we go 18 8v's were never carbed from the factory. They were all CIS mechanical fuel injection. The MK1's whether it be a Rabbit or a Scirocco that had the 1.8 were FI engines. Knock that through your thick skull. If it was a 1.8 8v, then the carbs were added aftermarket. As for being a worhtless Canadian, I'm glad I am one, instead of a citizen of a country that starts wars for profit and oil, and has a massively FAILING economy. New Jersy, shit son, you're a New York wannabe. Hick

I've always loved these cars. Here recently our local dirt track started what they call "Texas Twisters" FWD stock cars only. I've seen everything from Ford Probes to Honda Civic hatch backs...
