  • I drive a 99 SHO. sounds sweet. Gotta get the exhaust leak fixed. it goes really fast though. I am learning to drive in it... amazing car. oh yeah, and im 16...

  • and yes, even though i never gave much thought to it now, no, there is no turbo whine. i never really noticed it because i didnt really care. and i still dont care, the guy sold me the car cheap cause he couldnt fix the ac, and its still damn fast for the 2000 i paid him. so even though you're right about the turbo deal (dont have to be a dick, though) whatever he did to the car shaved about a full second of the stock car's 0-60 time. and its not going to be beaten by a fusion sport..

  • OK,OK. Sorry for being a dick. Anyways. He probably put in performance chip which can shave almost full second off of 0-60 times. There are also plenty of other mods for SHO which will put V8 back where it should be. As far as your theory about gears... it's nonsense. You can have long or short gears , different RPM range...and so on. SHO has a high revving engine and long gears. For instance shorter gears equal better acceleration but lower top speed.

  • the performance chip makes the most sense for the non-turbo performance mod, especially since i think both the v6 and v8 sho's both had detuned engines.

  • Ohh and about your SHO. Lets just say you have somewhere around 250-260 ;-) although that could be stretched. 325 hp ... you wish my brother.

  • also, the v6 fusion has a 7 second flat 0-60. stock sho's could do that in 6.8. the v6 fusion aint raping my sho. as the camaro and challenger proved against the mustang, 300 extra pounds does a lot towards negating a horsepower advantage.

  • The new 3.5L with over 260HP will dip in to low 6's. Yeah the 3.0L Duratec does 0-60 in flat 7s but that's enough to take ATX SHO 2nd Gen and definitely 3rd Gen.

  • im just finding that so hard to believe that a v6 fusion would go that low, since both the v8 sho and the v6 fusion have nearly identical weight to power ratios. and i don't know for sure, but v8's usually have more low end torque, which generally means better acceleration.

  • Again, yes but SHO has slow, 4 speed automatic trans when you can get Fusion with 6 speed manual.

  • ok, seriously, does the 6 speed even make that much of a difference? how many gears do you actually use going 0-60? seriously. the top 2 gears are basically just there to give them mileage boosts. and the ATX i had wasnt slow at slecting gears, it shifted pretty quick.

  • The fact of the matter is. SHO auto trans. is one of the worst in Ford history. Don't even argue. Fusion 6 speed is like heaven compared to hell when you put SHO 4 speed trans next to it.

  • this is the model i drive! the engine and exhaust were modded before i got it (bought used) and it has somewhere in the realm of 325 HP. definately a fun car! a lot of my friends have newer cars and some have luxury sedans, but i still prefer driving my SHO, and none of them would beat me in a race.

  • i forgot i didnt mention it before on this video, i did on another video, but it has a turbo. i know how much horsepower a stock v8 sho has and i know that a cold air intake and a new exhaust will net me like 15-20 hp if im lucky. i never even told you what i did to the car, so dont assume. and jeez, no need to get so angry.

  • I'm sorry. But one thing. I don't believe you that you have a turbo on that V8. There were plenty of V6s with Turbo. You know why I don't believe you?Simply because there is no space for turbo in a engine bay of 1996-199 SHO. You would need serious work to fit it in. Tell me where the turbo is located? I will tell you right of the bat if its true. There are only 2 places where you could put the turbo in any SHO. I know my stuff because I own SHO too and have installed turbos before on those cars

  • you know what, i couldnt tell you where it is, ive never actually worked on the engine since i owned the car. i just took the guy i bought from's word on it since i could do low 6's when the stock version runs 7's, and im smart enough to figure out that exhaust mods wont shave a whole second of a 0-60. so i dont know for sure if there is a turbo,m but the said it has one and i believe him, considering how much faster it is than a stock 3rd gen. im not a mechanic, i just have fun driving. God.

  • Look. V8 SHO (stock) does 0-60 in around 7.2-7.4sec . Its automatic trans. is slowing it down A LOT. 325HP V8 SHO would run mid to low 5 sec 0-60 not 6 like you said. Of course you have no turbo. You would hear the turbo spool, a whistling sound. Not only that, stock trans. won't take extra 100HP. Trust me, you don't have a turbo. You bought car from a guy that never showed you the actual TURBO. LOL. Please

  • yeah, its automatic, but i though it shifted pretty quickly compared to some autos ives driven. i don't know what its actual HP rating is and i dont really care. and i know what a turbo sounds like. i dont know if its a stock trans. and i dont care what its actual HP is or if it really has a turbo, all i know, ist that i can get around 6.2-6.1 0-60, which is a lot faster than a stock SHO. jeez, you dont have to be such a dick about it. im not an expert at this, i just know how fast it is.

    Been a GEN III owner for 10 years now ( mine made in 1997). Tops are all Yamaha and based on their MOTORCYCLE principals similar to the 3.0 and 3.2 v6 Gen 1 and 2 motors.

    Were designed up in Canada at Cosworth where the Formula engines start life. 3.4 liter v8 has 235 hp. Based on a Ford 2.5 liter v6 found in the Contour with two cylinders added. ALL aluminum construction with 6 bolt mains, reverse cooling and 100,000 KV coil on plug.

  • yeah lol i looked it up and these were engines were produced for the pontiac fiero but pontiac didnt go threw so ford bought them up cheap, i ive got to say i love these cars i gotta 94 nad i just built the tranny in it, its not to bad when thats wat u know how to do.

  • I had an '01 Taurus SES, It felt user friendly with its midsize stance and mild V6 sound. But when the tranny goes on those, just send it to a scrap yard. Just recently, I purchased a '97 Taurus SHO, much like the one in this video. Most searches on late 90's SHO show a stock 24 valve V8, So why does mine have a 32 valve V8. Not that I'm complaining, but wtf? who's idea was it to put a truck engine in a taurus. the ranger doesn't have a V8, does it?

  • I don't know how much you know about SHO's...the first and second gens had 24 valve 3.0 V6's (1989-1995). The third gens had a 32 valve V8 (1996-1999). The motors in all of these cars were designed and made by Yamaha, that is why they are so fast. Originally the SHO motor was to be put into a sports car and have over 400 HP....but obviously that idea was scrapped and they put it in the taurus. Rangers have are either 4 or 6 cylinders, you have the option. Hope this helps!

  • The 2000 Taurus had 155 HP. My 1998 SHO had 235 HP....

  • You're forgetting they offered a DOHC V6 also the power rating you listed was for the OHV V6. The DOHC 3.0 V6 is rated at 200hp.

  • an 01 V8 aurora may run 7 but the 98 you stated previously runs over 8 all day...and night

  • If you are looking for a V8 SHO then I wouldn't buy it unless you know for damn sure the cams have been welded. If they have been welded then they have been known to hit 235,000 miles easily...with proper care of course :)

  • the only way of knowing is if hey have a receipt/ pictures of it being done...other wise they could be making it up. It only costs about $600-800 to have them welded.

  • I NEED HELP!!! I'm buying another car because I can't drive my 65 stang during the winter. My two choices are an 80's to early 90's Suburban (with a 454) or a V8 ford taurus SHO. Please, take gas prices completely out of the picture. Also, there will be no towing traliers/boats/anything. Thanks.

  • If you decide to buy a V8 SHO keep in mind that they are prone to have camshaft failure and that can completely destroy the motor. However, if you look for one that has already had them welded then it will be perfectly fine. You can have them welded for about $600-$800. The SHO motor is indestructable, as long as you change the oil regularly. They are also very luxurious considering how much they cost and how much power they have(235 HP). I paid $3,500 for mine, it only had 73,000 miles on it.

  • Ford really dropped the ball with this 3rd generation SHO, when it didn't come with standard.

  • Might want to look into the camshaft repair on this car before the engine goes. The V8s are a ticking timebomb can go at 1 mile or 200k.

  • I already sold it a while ago because of that possible problem...I bought an older one, which I am completely restoring. It as 89. The ones made in 1989 were the fastest front wheel drive car in the world when they came out. (stock 0-60 was 6.5 seconds)

  • I had a 92 and miss it. Fun car. Though with the resonator deleted it sounded like a chain saw.

  • Are you SURE it's stock? I thought mine was for the longest time, until I got estimates on straight pipes, and the muffler shop guy told me I had aftermarket muffs.  Flowmaster knockoffs.

  • Yeah, I am sure they are stock. It just sounds a little louder because I was in the garage.
