i was watching a show where American scientists wanted to do research on whales... so they used a dart gun that took a skin sample the size of a pencil eraser, and from that they knew about the whale's weight, health, age, diet, sex, growth rate, and most importantly, mercury levels! The news show first starts off about humpbacks being endangered and Japan killing 1,000 whales a year. This grabs the idiots.
You have to wait a bit to find out of the 1,000 whales only 50 are humpbacks.
They also leave out Japanese whaling is done with full permission from the IWC and is completely legal. There are those in the AU who swear Australia is going to sue over the issue but it never happens.

This is a clear example of the media "Making the NEWS, instead of Reporting the TRUTH." Anyone who has every watched Whale Wars has seen these are just mobile slaughter houses and packaging plants with the words RESEARCH written on the side. They also target whale reserves and sanctuaries to do this. How much research can you do when you catch, slaughter and package for market without the aid of any scientists?

They all 'Make the NEWS' instead of 'Report the TRUTH'.
Spinning propaganda is their main concern. The types of stories they choose to run, the language used when spinning it. Seriously, who cares if Tiger woods is getting divorced or not...how is that more important than how Oil and Gas Companies are destroying/ wasting fresh water supplies.

@ancientclown I wouldn't say that's particularly true with the BBC as it's generally impartial when it comes to a clear divide of opinion, but I can't speak of NBC or CBC. In terms of this whaling kind of stuff, the BBC give the facts and trust the viewer to draw their own opinion, specifically when doing the headlines. If you look at a full televised report on whaling by the BBC it'll probably have several views being expressed, with an expert zealot and sceptic. The BBC is really rather good.
