You've got a point dude, but I'm guessing he means compared to Prince's older stuff. It seems like he was biggest in about 1983-85, with a few popular songs up to the early 90s.
Lots of people know songs like "Little Red Corvette" off the top of their head (even casual listeners who arent necesarilly fans). I doubt anything he comes out with will ever be nearly THAT big again...and this is before he alienated people with the anti-youtube thing.

I agree with the guy who made this video. What Prince and some others don't realize is how sites like this PROMOTE their music, especially since it helps pick up new fans. I've heard that was the point of videos when MTV started too- to promote the songs.
I think the problem is that the music industry is usually out of touch and stuck in the previous era. They're in 80s mode now (i.e. still expecting people to go to the mall and buy cds), just like how they resisted music videos back then.

And the publishing company, that own's its percentage of the rights cares big time. Prince wrote many songs for many artists ("manic monday", "Sussudio")and keeping track of ascap/bmi royalties is a hard thing to do, plus there is alot of people involved, not just Prince. This dude has no idea what he's talking about, it shows, and you sound like a tool.

Glad to see Im not alone. I posted up a video of a purple vinyl record of 'purple rain'. I got my notice very quickly (as well as comments saying it would happen) I tend to think that having it up is only MORE exposure, or perhaps it will make someone else want to go BUY a similar record....or hearing the song again would make them buy a CD. Its not CD quality, Its not downloadable, and im not making money. Its just a VIDEO of a record spinning. It really left me w/a bad impression of him.

You've got a point dude, but I'm guessing he means compared to Prince's older stuff. It seems like he was biggest in about 1983-85, with a few popular songs up to the early 90s.
Lots of people know songs like "Little Red Corvette" off the top of their head (even casual listeners who arent necesarilly fans). I doubt anything he comes out with will ever be nearly THAT big again...and this is before he alienated people with the anti-youtube thing.

I agree with the guy who made this video. What Prince and some others don't realize is how sites like this PROMOTE their music, especially since it helps pick up new fans. I've heard that was the point of videos when MTV started too- to promote the songs.
I think the problem is that the music industry is usually out of touch and stuck in the previous era. They're in 80s mode now (i.e. still expecting people to go to the mall and buy cds), just like how they resisted music videos back then.

No challenge here. Check out the "Live at the Alladin Las Vegas" & "Rave Un2 The Year 2000" dvd's both commercially available. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with him taking a solo may still be up on YouTube.
Practically all of the good live clips that were on YouTube are gone. Be certain that there are way too many unoffically released live video performances to list here.

The difference between Prince and all those other faded musicians is that Prince doesn't care if he's on top of the music business. He won't care until he stops making money. Unfortunately, he's still making millions from concerts, merchandise sales and all sorts of distribution deals. I used to be a huge Prince fan and bought his albums and paid $150 for his concert tickets. NO MORE! Since last year, I stopped buying anything with his name and I ask everyone else to do the same out of protest!

And the publishing company, that own's its percentage of the rights cares big time. Prince wrote many songs for many artists ("manic monday", "Sussudio")and keeping track of ascap/bmi royalties is a hard thing to do, plus there is alot of people involved, not just Prince. maybe he didnt, maybe he did look into the paper as a matter of fact it was them who approach his people to release a hits package for the paper but prince said no he would allow them to release his new album instead and the paper got more sales on that day since they done a peice on princess diana so for people to say hes finished is living on cloud cuckoo land. anyway why dont these so called musicians respect his work if you want to use it ask permission.

It's funny how alot of music fans today think that MTV, VH1, BET, and all the mainstream media outlets are the end-all be-all of music exposure. I bet if people knew that acts like Public Enemy and KRS-ONE were still touring, performing, and recording that they were, "making a comeback", which is odd, since those two as well as Prince have been doin' their thang for 20+ years straight.

copyright prevents the distribution and re-distribution of music. distribution IS NOT DEFINED BY LAW AS MAKING MONEY OR NOT MAKING MONEY. in the eyes of the law, money exchanging hands is IRRELEVANT. However, i think one could argue FAIR USE in the case of Youtube and music in the background and whatnot. I'm pretty sure Prince will lose this fight -- and just deserts, too. He doesn't deserve to win this.

I BET U THAT HE LAST YEAR MADE HALF A MILLION DOLLARS. He hasnt faded, he still makes money and the music he now makes is bether than ever. And yeah, last year he emade quite a bit of millions on a consert in London, all ticets were sold out, and every last bit of it went to him and none to any rec-studio. Glad to see Im not alone. I posted up a video of a purple vinyl record of 'purple rain'. I got my notice very quickly (as well as comments saying it would happen) I tend to think that having it up is only MORE exposure, or perhaps it will make someone else want to go BUY a similar record....or hearing the song again would make them buy a CD. Its not CD quality, Its not downloadable, and im not making money. Its just a VIDEO of a record spinning. It really left me w/a bad impression of him.

I just dont beleive the reasoning behind it, thats all. When I got the copyright notice,I immediately took it down without argument. Im just a guy spinning records,I dont need any trouble. I just dont understand the logic, thats all.And yes,I still listen to him!

Unfortunately you are wrong about him not making money. In 2006-7 his concert was the highest grossing of that entire 2006 year, on into early 2007. The man made multi-millions in those concert sells alone. WOW !!! I couldnt believe that, still cant.
