Sorry to bother. I'd like so much to know how that sweeet "slow attack" effect is achieved on the ped steel. Is it a stompbox effect or is comething "inside" the instrument? Thanks a lot, I appreciate.
I don't think it's very complicated at all. I completely understand what this dood is talking about. If you don't get it. It's like some people break bricks with their hands and some people break their bones on bricks. Either you got it or you don't. It's a cowboy thing
I was gonna learn to play this instrument too, but then I thought I'd save some time and build a rocket ship, but what the hell, I'll save even more time, and just book a ride on your's, when you get it done. Give me a hollar when it's ready to blast off.
I've taken personal lessons from Dick and he explained things to me that nobody else was able to do. I highly recommend his teaching material. I'm a beginner but I got his intermediate course and I'm very happy.

I'm 29 and in the exact same boat... picked up a steel a few months ago after 20 years playing the regular guitar.

Two questions about amplifying...
a) What kind of amplifier is good for pedal steel?
b) Does pedal steel give good sound straight-to-PA? Or is it always necessary to use amp?

No, it IS complicated. It's a whole different way of playing. Many ppl switching from guitar to PS or LS have a difficult time w/ it.
