Hamlet is a work of fiction. One cannot truely see anything from the eyes of Shakespeare by simply reading his pieces of literature, which are entirely fictional.

This is an essay(almost a condensed autobiography) from a "real" woman, about her life's journey as she witnesses the progression of her people throughout the decades.

Whether Renetto intended to make light of this woman's life for the sake of entertainment, or whether he was using the makeup as an "acting tool" to better portray being an African American female as he told her tale is unknown.

Regardless, he could have conveyed the message of her essay had he read it without makeup.

Why do we put so much thought into this type of stuff? I couldn't count how many people I've seen reenact an essay or journal entry written by a Jew during the Holocaust.
