many thanks for posting this classic.oh the memories, just bought a copy of ebay £14, anybody interested in buying the american version of this album check out ebay there,s a few on there also mustard but a bit dear. i believe roy is warming up for status quo this november and december and doing a fair few towns, treat yourself to a ticket and see a real unsung legend.
I agree, a bit like Paul Anka's Diana as wel in the intro, have a listen to Everyday I wonder from the same album, that's a bit like Del Shannon's Runaway. good tracks though.
The point of this album was, largely , to take 50's and 69's songs and re-write them. Yep, this is Oh Carol. "Everyday I Wonder" is a Del Shannon re-write and, if yo know your music, you'll spot Gene Vincent and others!
@FinnMove wizzard brew is good but it doesnt sound like 50s music to me at other moments roy seems to be a 60s fanatic sounding like the beach boys the four seasons del shannon and phil spector
The point of the album is that every song is a re-write of a 50's or 60's song. We have Sedaka, Del Shannon and the gammy leg of Gene Vincent staggering around the studio amongst others. It should have been a double album, the other half being a more jazz based piece, since released as Main Street.
Interesting you should say that! I remember the rumour that Neil was in the same recording studio when her heard Roy record this - wonder what he thought or said, if it were true....
great Wizzard arrangement.

Remember Roy's solo single..Forever..?
That was a Beach Boys pastiche.

Roy is a musical alchemist..he takes bits from different songs and makes them into his own Wizzard brew.
His influences range from 50's rock n roll..to Beatles...Beach boys and beyond.
His musical genius is woefully under rated.
And by the way...this song IS cut short..there is an actual ending to it but's it missing here.
He has actually stated the Forever is a take on The Beach Boys.

Roy Wood is obviously a 1950´s fanatic.
But I think in this album he went to far in this. There is very little left the personality
of his own music. Wizzard Brew did this
tribute to 1950´s IMO much better.
