  • I happened to see Ghengis Blues on PBS, when it first came out. Found it to be untouchable...... the Power that Mr.Pena brought to this film was awesomely touching.

Was terrible to hear of his passing, years ago, yet he lives on !!! RIP Paul, take a ride on the ....

  • TUVA IS REALLY MONGOL. TURKIC is KAZAKH. ITS TRUE

  • cool

  • Wow! Better! Cool!

  • Paul pena has the deepest Kargyyra throat singing technique i've ever heard

    !

  • @PhantomLord They nicknamed him "earthquake" for a reason.

  • WOW

  • Freakin awesome!

  • Wow... a happy wanderer invoking the accompaniment of some spirit friend for a ride ...

  • If you cant Dig this, your dead.

    Cosmic

  • wwwDOTgangsterbluesDOTcom/indexDOTphp?option=com_content&view=article&id=152&Itemid=100#giantkillers

  • damn that sounds amazing, now i watch the documentary

  • that is so bad ass

  • I HAVE to go to Tuva!

  • the best

  • Ejem.... ¿two vocal cords?? Vocal cords or folds are ONE ORGAN which helps producing sound by vibrating as the air passes through. This video shows the tecnique called "overtone singing" ( "canto multifónico" en español), consisting in highlight some harmonic sounds over the basic tone.

  • i gotta find this cd

  • LOL ... imagine mongolian bluegrass...

  • no, u just need positive vibe and such.......

    yyyyyyyyyyyyyysewtwtwtwtwtwtwtwtwttttwtwtwttwtww

    earthquAKE

  • WOW!!! Thats Beautiful. Thanks for uploading!

  • and pena leads in with a sweep....what a badass!

  • this is super awesome! msutve also been hard for him to learn the lyrics!

  • @iLikeDragon Dude, Paul was blind, he couldn't learn this from a book. You should watch the movie, it stirred me deeply.

  • @synapse349 yeh thats EXACTLY why i said it mustve been hard for him to learn those lyrics lol

  • @iLikeDragon There's a part in the movie where Paul and his friend are studying Tuvan lyrics for a song he's about to perform. It's so hard...

  • Very cool!!!!!!!

  • 5 Stars? Nay! No justice in only 5 Stars! CHUGE!!

  • check out d throat singin wow I dig it

  • love blues

  • One of my all time favs!

  • This is cosmic! It's things like this which manage to restore my faith in humanity...

    Thanks for uploading!

  • What is that last word Tuvans always say at the end of their songs? It sounds like "Chuge!" I can never understand it.

  • @ytcomposer someone told me it's roughly equivalent to "Giddy-up"

  • ah. that makes sense. ^_^

  • Shu-de. it's like saying "giddyup!" to a horse, but it's just sort of thrown in a lot, kind of like "yeah!" or "rock on!"

  • Damn check out Feynman's portrait behind them!...Feynman lives!!!

  • It is too bad that time caught up with Paul, he opened some eyes to this world. A world that is fast fading.

  • paul pena's kargira is ok but i can't say the same about his tuvan

  • Tuvan music and the blues sound really good together!

  • Crap...chin-Part 2 - No,I'm saying that people who have underlying psychological issues are likely to experience negative effects from LSD while people who are at peace in their minds are likely to have positive effects. The effects on serotonin receptors can result in extreme mood swings like laughter to crying or childlike wonder at the simplest things to fear of the most benign things.Drugs aren't used to"get rid of addictions" eg-methadone stops heroin craving not addiction.EDUCATE THYSELF.

  • Lol, get a life nub.

  • Crapzorsbutachin - Do some research before you mouth off - google lsd/alcoholism treatment , then read & dig further.I have talked WITH NOT TO many psychiatrists, counsellors, therapists,&addicts. Evidence from lab studies shows that LSD acts on groups of serotonin receptors(the SSRI class of anti-depressant drugs inhibit these receptors to keep serotonin levels up to combat depression) mainly in the cerebral cortex(affecting mood, cognition,&preception)&locus ceruleus(sensory signal receptors).

  • This is just fantastic!

I'll go to Tuva one day to!

  • from the missisippi delta to the plains of the inner mongolia...the guitar really went to places!!!

  • Feel it, live it!

A mate is on the way to Tuva, best wishes for him and his enterprise

  • I wish there were more songs like this

  • Verdadeira lição de cosmopolitismo.

Blues + tuva + crioulo de Cabo Verde.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • Thanks for posting.... !

  • funny story, i ate some lsd with some friends and a sober friend of theirs came over and he brought genghis blues, so the first time i was exposed to this singing i was pretty spun... awesome time, great movie!

  • oh yea thats hilarious... sarcasm

  • i'm sorry you have no good times unless your on a computer writing negative comments :)

  • im sorry that you need mushrooms to enjoy such fantastic music

  • First of all as I stated it was LSD, not mushrooms, and secondly I never stated that I NEEDED the substance to enjoy the music, I said I was exposed to this music while on the entheogen.

So once again I'm so sorry your life is that bad that you can't seem to do anything but reply to positive comments of a great experience with something negative.

    Peace and Love :)

  • same difference. The funny part is how hypocritical you are, saying peace and love and saying that my life is so horrible because i have to comment on things. Honestly I don't think what I said was negative, I think taking LSD is negative.

Happy you had a fun little experience, a little laugh... but whatever.

  • drop the negative bullshit and get a life, you have obviously never experimented with psychoactive drugs so you shouldn't be commenting on them..

    sheesh, thinking LSD is mushrooms....=\

  • i never thought they were the same, they are both hallucinogens so who the fuck cares? have you tried crack? have you tried heroin? have you tried crystal meth? Just because you haven't tried something doesnt mean that you cant make a smart decision on it. Sorry it doesnt work like that, i can comment on suicide even though...i never experienced it. or anything else that is mind altering for that matter.

  • Plus as i said, its not negative to me to be talking about it, and its not bullshit, and i obviously have a life... i've only spent about 2 real minutes of my life talking to you.

  • It is usually only negative for people who aren't at peace with their own minds & has been used sucessfully in clinical settings to help people who were hopelessly addicted ( alcohol & drugs) "see the light" & overcome their addictions.Have you tried it?

  • No one needs mushrooms to make a journey

  • @patrol750 nope just kongar. . . he makes you trip with his voice

  • @patrol750 You don't need 'em, certainly not. But they do make shit interesting.

  • saw the movie and he is great...the people of Tuva are people whit a great heart; and after the movie what is left is a gooooood -feeling.. :-)

  • Brilliance. I really need to get Genghis Blues!

  • simply amazing.

  • Too cool!!!

  • If you have not got the movie Genghis Blues, it is a must-see. OMG, I was in love with the kindred spirit of Paul, so jolly and what a musical genius. He must be in the heavenlies now (with his Babe) as he must live forever. His low-notes are said to be alot lower than the lowest key on the piano. And the high-pitch throat singing (whistling sound) from his Tuva friend here, it is haunting.. Love this song !

  • Seconded.

  • Listen to that voice!

He truly deserved the name Chershemjer. :)

  • Mind blowing, fucking amazing.

    enough said.

  • haaaaa....as if that is enough said.

this is the mind of mind blowing.

research Paul, it'll blow the socks off your precious feet. "fucking amazing" falls a bit short IMHO.

  • That overtone melody that Kongar-ol Ondar is awesome. It's funky, with nice rhythm and so in control. You hear the 'whistle' sound of the overtones more than you hear his voice!

This mix of Paul and him are a match that heaven could not have better made.

  • Well said.

I like how blissed Kongar-ol Ondar is at 2:00.

  • again, holy cow.

  • holy cow, great stuff.

i read on the homepage for Paul that he taught himself Tuvan by english to russian and russian to tuvan dictionaries! that's astounding. what a guy.

  • How does a blind man do that? Amazing regardless.

  • According to his website, he used an "'opticon' device which translates text into sensations"...

I guess the guy was a genius in more ways than one!

Heh...yeah...amazing regardless...funny how people can be so blessed.

  • the way he could blend musical styles was truly amazing. i have huun-huur-tu's recording of this, and paul takes it to another level with his additions. the world is certainly a better place for his contributions. thank you, paul -- rest in peace.

  • The world needs another mongol invastion!

  • I always smile when I watch this clip. I feel the joy.

  • Paul wasn't called "Earthquake" for nothing. Wow, what a voice during that kargyra ...

  • AHHHH i cant get over that painting! what the hell does it mean! it's so normal yet so odd! help me!

  • I just learned about yesterday (10/03/08.Paul was singing in Capeverdean Kreul.Thank you Paul, rest in PEACE...

  • i just learned about this guy tonite in my music class and i'm completely opened up to a new world and i have so much respect for him. much love to paul pena. what a great guy who even tho wasn't able to physically see, he was able to see music and it's beauty in other forms. god bless

  • God bless his noble soul! Pena you were great!

  • blessed be Paul Pena is still warming so many hearts!!

  • does anyone know what instrument that is?

  • The instrument is called doshpuluur.

  • Interesting mix of cultures!

  • Fantastic. Two brilliant musicians combining forces to great effect.

  • When I heard Paul had died,I cried, thanks for showing these guys it blessed me !

  • same happened to me, boy. Paul`s voice was absolutely *M*A*G*I*C* !

  • i say the original cowboys were the mongols

  • @18hmoobclans This song's name is "Eki Attar" in Tuvan dialect, in Turkey Turkish "İyi Atlar" (in Royal English "Good Horses, hehe). Tuvans are Turkic people, not Mongol.

  • lange gesucht, ein sehr schönes Lied.

  • Genghis Bleus

Who gives links to movies simular

this one I got already on vhs tape

  • I don't know of any movies similar to Genghis Blues- but I recommend the book "Tuva or Bust" by Ralph Leighton. It's about the journey he took with Richard Feynman to visit Tuva during the 80's when it was still an obscure and highly isolated region in the USSR. Of course throat singing is featured prominently, as well as more Tuvan culture

  • Feynman never made it to Tuva though.

  • i am honestly thinking that theres subliminal messages making you want to listen to it more its so diffrent then what im listing to its interesting

  • special perform great

  • <I>can't get enough of Tuvan throat singing.. I have six cd's and still crave more..

One day, I hope to travel beyond my dreams, to the land of Tuva..

thank you for sharing this moment.. captured in time..

    *sheri*

  • I once had laryengitis llike that

  • RIP Paul "Earthquake" Pena... you are greatly missed.

  • Damn i want an mp3 of this

  • Band: Huur Huun Tu

    Album: The Orphans Lament

    Track: Eki Attar (track 11)

    Get to it!

    /uber fan

//if you can't find it, lemme know - nudge nudge, wink wink

  • Cool, I might train my throat singing a bit more now :-)

  • wow.. that was good! you guys need check Zulsar! he can every thing .but his very humble.

  • Ondal is such a national treasure :D

  • you will be missed Paul

  • omg i never saw this piece... but i guess thats because i never saw it on dvd :P

  • I love the movie, thanks for posting this small piece!
