John had those bang island mussels @Windows on the water, they are AWESOME.We have made them at home several times.Nancy & John Petitto.Revere Ma.5 STARS!!!
The second camera I set-up to use for the overhead, close-up shots did not record correctly and so I couldn't use that footage...sorry about that but I agree it would have been a plus!
Beer and Mussels - the perfect combination for those of us who live in Maine. Actually, perfect for everyone everywhere. Thanks for being a great chef, and a terrific teacher. Next stop for John - Iron Chef America!
Now I need to fly to Bangs Island and whip up some mussels! Though I am in Seattle tonight, I suspect that there is something simular! This recipe rocks! Via Adam Cox
Wonder recipe, and great teaching video! The mussels look absolutely delicious. Can't wait to make them. We miss you at Windows on the Water. There is no place to get a "perfect meal" now.
John, What a great idea to use ingredients natural to your home state. I think you could easily cook across the country with your culinary skill. If you try out some Maine lobster recipies, I will volunteer to be a taste tester. I am postive they too would be spectacular. Good luck!
5 STARS*****-Great presentation - perfect timing and tempo - sounds like wonderful recipe (even to a non-chef like myself) - would like to try to make this dish myself at home. Would love to have Chef John cater a party for me at my home.
As the NRA's "Hot Chef Challenge" winds down in it's final day of voting, I'd like to take a moment and THANK everyone who was taken the time to watch, vote and comment on my humble little video.
To my fellow contestants, I'd like to wish ALL of you the best of luck...there are several terrific videos posted for this competitiion.
To the NRA and Youtube, thanks for making this challenge possible.
Fantastic little video, John--you accomplish a super meal in such a short time! :) I'll have to get brave and try this myself sometime. (--fohboh's Restaurant Guru)
Great job, John! I love mussels and have never cooked them. You take the mystery out of them. Can't wait to try this yummy recipe when I return to Maine. Memphis just isn't the place to get mussels.:)
I just wanted to mention not only is your video great, I have attended one of your cooking classes and it was outstanding, very informative and your personailty kept the audience engaged and interested not to mention well fed. My friends and I still talk about the class and the food! We will have to attend another! Is there information on your website about them?
You've obviously got primo culinary know-how, but you have got THE personality for effectively communicating to folks how to cook on film. Great video clip!
Love that Chef John's recipe uses simple, fresh ingredients with Maine raised mussels. What a terrific recipe. I have made many mussel recipes, but never one with lime -- what a nice fresh taste it adds!! Lovely summer time recipe. Thanks Chef John! Thumbs up.
Chef John's cooking makes me salivate. My family loves mussels and this will be our new favorite recipe. John certainly loves beautiful food, and the camera certainly loves John! I would love to see more of him on his own cooking show.
Wonderful recipe and marvelous presentation! John is such an excellent chef, and a great teacher. He is able to take delightful, fresh ingredients and make them absolutely delectable.
Chef John is amazing. He knows his stuff. There is lots of love for the ingredients. He's creative and his ability to innovate transfers to the dining experience!
Chef John appears as extremely personable and clearly loves his craft. I think he is the kind of chef/personality who would really engage a crowd as they watch him cook.
Love that he is concerned with the quality of sustainable ingredients he is using and how he relays that to the viewer. I'd look forward to any and all tips and recipes from him. Great job!
Trying to show how to prepare any recipe in 2 minutes time is always a challenge and I wish the video was a little more polished but it came in right at 2 minutes.
Ale and mussels just go together and whenever I make this dish I think of a warm summer evening, relaxing with family and friends.
Food often brings memories of certain times for me...I hope it does the same for you.
I love mussels (and beer)! Those ingredients sound clean and refreshing, prefect for the spring/summer weather, I can't wait to make some and try for myself!

I would have liked more close-ups of the food
while being prepared and while cooking. Need a
camera for what is happening in the pot while cooking. Too much of you, not enough of the food.

It would have been nice to see in your pot how things were looking

Great choice on the IPA (Longhammer). While more often than not I choose Shipyard's Fuggles IPA, I do enjoy Redhooks Longhammer and Harpoons IPA.
The mussel's are fantastic!

You do a good job of showing mussel-prep newbies how to go about it. Good work!
