This is nothing new and they did not invent it. The technology was first demonstrated in 2002 to the credit networks (Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Discover) and the debit networks (STAR, NYCE, PULSE, etc..), the very same ones you see on the back of any bank issued debit or credit card. And has been in use since 2004.
A metaframe is that smoky screen you get around a window where you stay at the same url and same webpage. It requires advanced programming techniques. Mapquest and Netflix use them too.
This is what we needed in eBay. I used to have a fairly subtantial home business selling on eBay but I could not make it work because sometimes the buyer would reneg and keep the goods and I'd be left holding the bag. It wasn't worth it. What is needed on the Internet is certainty of payment .Everybody has an ATM card and PIN so this is a great solution. Ebay force Paypal on you but I could see this taking hold outside of ebay though. It is certainly needed.
You are absolutely correct. Someone has and did in 2002 and demonstrated it to the credit networks (Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Discover) and the debit networks (STAR, NYCE, PULSE, etc..), the very same ones you see on the back of any bank issued debit or credit card. And it was rejected because it was too secure and reduced the banks revenue.
You are absolutely correct. The bank that issued you your card makes more than 2% on every transaction you do on the internet. If you use a PIN, they make pennies. The lower the risk (a PIN based transaction) the lower the fee they can charge a merchant for that transaction. The networks and the bank are always encouraging you to make a signature transaction you never see them advertize a PIN based transaction, do you?
This is absolutely fabulous. I checked. There really is a Baker Boyer Bank and the bank logo looks right so this probably was a real transaction. Talk about slick.
I only use a credit card on the Internet because its safer but my available credit was taken away for no reason. But I bank at a TARP bank. I don't trust using Visa debit on the Internet. If Amazon would let me pay like this, I'd get an account at Baker Boyer Bank - wherever that is - just to be able buy online safely. Every bank offers a Visa or MasterCard branded ATM card. This I would actually value.
Wow! I love the way the keypad pops up on the same window. I've always found it really annoying to have to go to another site when using my card online. This is so much more intuitive :)
I can't use my ATM card on the internet because it only works with a PIN. I use PayPal sometimes but it takes too long and the customer service stinks. I'd rather pay with this way.
This technology has been around in some form for a few years. This looks too easy. It appeared to be a real transaction. Is this for real? I looked up Baker B

And has been in use since 2004. The major banks will not accept this because it is too secure thereby reducing the banks revenue. NO bank will cannibalize their existing card portfolio revenue for less money just to make you secure!
I think this is an exciting concept. I've been using my debit card with my PIN for years at my grocery store. I've always wondered why we couldn't use debit with a PIN online. I still don't understand why it took this long :)

It's integrated into the shopping cart software itself. They are using a metaframe instead of a redirect or activeX which is smart. Nice work.

Too good to be true, I'm afraid. I would not get too excited. Maybe it will be mainstream ten years from now.
