  • badass that a slayer video is in the suggestions \m/ {-,-}

  • I'm amazed at the emotional response this piece gets. Looking back through the thousands of post and hundreds of thousands of views, the same results occur in the majority of cases...

...I want to be married to this song, I want this played at my funeral, I can't stop listening to it, It gives me goosebumps...

Isn't it fascinating, that a piece of music can invoke those emotions in a myriad of people of vastly different religious, economic and racial backgrounds from all around the planet?

  • @sdfksfladfasdf Well yes, if by a 'myriad' you mean under 25 middle class white people.

  • @sas147741 HAHAHA BERLIOZ HAHAHA

    ....oh wait, were you serious?

  • @Thsang95 Without him this wouldn't exist

  • @sas147741 The "him" you are referring to is Beethoven, right? Because Berlioz really didn't influence anyone.

  • I've been sitting for hours listening to classical music on the verge of tears... and finally THIS is what has made me break out crying.

  • Caligula :) the sickest movie with great music

  • honestly... best version on youtube, i suppose..

  • This is with no quistion one of classical history most exceptional pieces!! :-)

  • Onore Lamia

  • CALIGVLA

  • This guy is a genius. No, more than that.

  • gives me shivers ever time I listen to it :)

  • stunning piece of music, heard this first when i was about 9 or 10, very moving and even though i appreciate a vast array of music, not much comes close to this piece, quality! x

  • hoooooooooooooooooooooo

  • This is one that gives me goosebumps.

  • I'm playing this at my funeral when my coffin enters the room.

  • @Johnathon394 that'll spook the hell outta everybody coming from inside your coffin ! sry...it's early - great piece of music for an entrance though

  • @Johnathon394

Funny, I'm gonna be playing this at my wedding as the bride walks down the isle.

  • @Johnathon394 Not exactly you, my friend... maybe your relatives will be playing this, you won´t be able even to listen.

  • @Johnathon394

    YOU ARE NOT WORTHY!!!!

    But, okay.

  • @Johnathon394 If you were to play it you'd still be alive...I know what you mean, though, and I agree.

  • egoiste

  • Im the only one skipping the first 1:13 min?? :)

  • Does anyone else see how this piece influenced Danny Elfman in the Batman movies?

  • @plaidlad91 Spot on. I was thinking the same thing. It has the same cryptic atmosphere about it. Especially the second Michael Keaton Movie.

  • Thank you, Prokofiev, for leaving this for us as you passed thru our world. I would very much liked to have bought you a beer while you were here.

  • Freakish composer...

  • HAARP

  • @vRoosmalen yeah baby!

  • Mary & Max

  • gods, I can't stop listening to this over and over.

  • The low brass always gives me the chills in this piece. :)

  • He was very cinematic composer. One of the best in the history of cinema art. His music to "Alexandr Nevsky" of Eisenstein is fascinating. So and this music is very graphic. I do not wonder that many-many contemporary composers borrows his ideas for theirs sound-tracks

  • simply amazing makes me feel smth inside of me when I listen to it

  • Caligula!!!

  • Russia composes you!

  • Brilliant piece, so glad I could finally put a name to it, having heard it so many times.

  • One of the best Russian composers

  • quality

  • che cazzo di CAPOLAVOROOO!!!!

  • Yer fired!

  • PERFECTION.

  • Gives me goosebumps!

  • I have listened to R & J at least a hundred times and never tire of it. Get the entire suite rendered by, say, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York etc and turn up the sound.

    Luxuriate.

  • Das Intro der VolBeat shows so ungefähr von 1:10 bis 2:50^^

  • Romeo and Juliet have been a huge inspiration for later composers of classical music like Tchaikovsky and his overture and Prokofiev and his ballet and Bernstein West side story, and Berlioz symphony. And even popular culture like Dicaprio's movie.

  • the 4 people who doesn't like this, kill your self please!!

    this is amazing!!

  • You're Fired!

  • If only this video had 400 million views and Justin Bieber's Baby had 116.000..

  • Yer Fired!

  • oh that's my favourite prokoviev piece its very powerful, i prefer the piano version though

  • eurekaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I think about the fact that Prokofiev was a great chess player and suddenly this piece immediately and inevitably conjures up the image of a chessboard and the passion and sacrifice of the battle that's being held therein.

  • I just picture some 6'6 Russian Wrestler walking down the aisle. Love this piece.

  • 1:15 is where it goes down awww yeah! Sounds like it may have inspired John Williams.

  • @jcgamer107 it sounds more danny elfman than john williams to me

  • I must mention that u forgot to put in description that this is also used in the video game Heroes Of Might And Magic (forgot which part)

  • justin bieber herp derp

  • This song is excellent in Wembley Stadium, London, England when Matthew Bellamy, Dom Howard and Chris Wohlstenholme of Muse walk out to it to perform the last two shows of their tour.

It is absolutely beautiful paired with those rock stars walking into the midst of the mosh. Thumbs up if you like Muse!

  • wow, such power and emotions...I worship this song. I just can't find the right words to express all the feelings in me when I listen to this song.

  • Necrophagist- Only Ash Remains, listen, its Technical Death Metal. AT the end of the song, its a part of this.

  • @jumatm Necrophagist <3

  • 4 peoples hands must of slipped when they clicked 'unlike' ....how could you possibly unlike THIS!

most powerful piece I've ever listened to

  • I have existed from the morning of the world, and I shall exist until the last star falls from the heavens.......

  • The Egoiste commercial from the 90's caused my love for this piece to resurface. It is just so powerful....I LOVE celli! With headphones on, I get chills!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely love.

  • prokofiev was a badass =) and a genious

  • Pure Epicness

  • why did Alan Sugar have to ruin this :(

  • I am proud to be part of the human race.

  • Can someone please tell me what is so powerful about this piece? I am a huge fan of classical music and am well heard. However, the only thing that sends chills through my body is the first few minutes of this piece. Other than that, I really don't know what is so good about this piece. If someone could give me a constuctive reply, that would be excellent. I am aware of Romeo and Juliet, by the way.

  • @kczapper I agree with you, this piece is overrated (still it's beautiful don't get me wrong). I personally prefer the part from 2:50 to 3:52.

  • This music reminds me of Men who have made a great Impact on History-good and bad-fortunate and tragic. A we lose our History and hermetically seal ourselves off with our "I-something" plastic toys, I always have a Heart for the Heroes and the Rogues. The Leaders and Risk Takers. Tragically flawed but Human. Remember them through this music.

  • when i went to see this ballet it was absolutely amazing. best piece.

  • I've always loved this one... These composers and arrangers knew their craft... I 'envy' their knowledge and ability, 'in the nicest possible sense.'

    Jim

  • Prokofiev=Shakespeare

  • @kykah01 Prokofiev>shakespeare

  • @E34BMW535i Prokofiev>_ shakespeare

Note - fail attempt to say the sign greater then or equal to!

  • Prokofiev=Shakespeare

  • This Is Music!!! Forget That Heavy Metal Crap They Call Music!!!

  • @DylanBStringer91

stfu :D I listen to this, and I listened to metal for years, I still do btw.. but music is just music, no matter if YOU like it or not. some people are just so random xD

  • This pieces is powerfully wicked. You can feel the struggle between opposing forces. But it's not depressing and melancholy. Delightfully wicked is a better description. I hate to say that I smirk when I hear it.

    ~k*L

  • i get mad chills every time i hear this

  • everytime i hear this song i always picture beautiful evil people dancing

  • Simply marvelous!

I love the dissonance at the beginning; it captures the discord between the two families. Then it fades away, and you can hear the foreshadowing of tragedy.

  • AMAZING !

  • My school orchestra's performing this for our region festival. It's one of my favorite pieces of all time.

  • Definitely need the german bow for this one. Performed it outside once, it's a blast to play.

  • I love this song

  • I always thought this must have been the inspiration for Williams' Imperial March.

  • I've always loved this, although the saxaphone has always bothered me

  • @DezparE Orchestral saxophonists are chronically bad. They always cut corners by having a clarinet specialist play the part. While there are lots of good clarinetists who also play saxophone, most are not. That's why the saxophone always bothers you.

  • Beautiful.

  • Prokofiev is a musical genius, this entire suite gives me chills. Hands down one of my favorite pieces, both to listen to and play.

  • to dec20056 : me 37 years. finally found it

  • @robertoeleei

Glad you found it! It is the sort of tune that will stay in your head forever, playing over and over again! 37 years is a long time.

  • Une merveille pareille, pondue par un putain de communiste servile...

Certains pourraient dire que Dieu bois... Et j'en suis.

  • My favourite piece of classical music. It's just so....Heavy Metal!!!

  • @IntrepidMoocher It's running to ur face like... HM!

  • Epic Quote :D

  • Ah, my... This piece is so powerful, it just grips me tightly. Really does send shivers down the spine... As if... I have to sit upright when I hear this piece. Slouching or bad posture would somehow be rude to such a powerful, commanding piece.

I really love this. It's an amazing piece of music. Masterfully drawn... Far more moving than any musics we hear today.

  • @thatonegeek first time i heard this i sat upright as it began! XD

  • @thatonegeek Not really fair, there is a LOT of really awesome moving music being produced today.

  • @thatonegeek Whatever you do, don't lie down! ;-) Yes, it is wonderful music!

  • @thatonegeek Don't meen to be rude... you're a fucking moron.

  • @bobbydylanio Yeah, not rude at all. Just because you don't mean to be rude, doesn't mean you aren't. Why did you post that in the first place? He's just expression what he feels. Go listen to a good dose of Justin Bieber now, k?

  • @Citylife10 on that merit I'll say what I want as well. one thing that really pisses me off is that "there no good music today" bullcrap. there are hundreds, if not thousands of incredible bands out there and just to dismiss EVERY contemporary artist with one sweeping statement is unbelievably UNBELIEVABLY ignorant. Popular music might be dead but if people would just look they would see that music is incredibly strong now, and if they dont want to look, dont go saying modern music is shit. bye

  • @bobbydylanio Well, everybody has their own opinion, and you have no right to say otherwise. Maybe he could care less about bands, like myself? And he/she never said there is no good music today, he said "Far more moving than any musics we here today". He/she probably does like modern music, but it probably just doesn't have an effect on him/her as this music does.

  • @thatonegeek apart from that of hans zimmer and jeff van dyke i second that motion!!!

  • Also used in the movie "The Battle of Britain" during a dogfight scene - that's my first memory of being haunted by this piece.

  • Also in an old old Commodore 64 shoot-em-up game: Sanction :D

  • "It is also used in the song 'Lords of Bedlam' by the Austrian symphonic death metal band Hollenthon." Thank you, thank you ;D

  • cradle of filth also used it live

  • been lookin for this for 2 years! finally found it!!

  • absolutely beautiful - one of the most magnificent pieces ever written.

  • tis great...Aprenntice theme tune!! :D

  • I think of ancient microbes in the Precambrian sea waging war and reproducing.

  • @shrunkard hahahahaaaa now that's original!

  • Love it!!! :-D

  • Great! Fantastic! I love it!

  • It wasn't used as the theme for God's Wonderful Railway but for a documentary series of about the same time called The Pathfinders which was hosted by John Craven. But it was very appropriate music. It always makes me think of one of these very early steam locomotives from the 1820s pounding along a colliery railway with its pistons moving up and down and black smoke belching out of its tall smoke stack.

  • Remembers me Stresemann from Nodame Cantabile

  • amazing song... funny I found it though some 4chan like site.

  • This piece is so incredibly powerful. One of my favourites. I love to listen to it at top volume so it just blows me away :D

  • this is great. heard of it from necrophagist.

  • its also on the intro for Satyricons Mother North

  • got to love the tuba part for this :D

  • I was a huge fan of Buzzcocks, Pixies, Captain Beefheart, Nick Cave, Happy Mondays and then one day, I was listening to my favourite band of all time's live album, "Rank by The Smiths", The Smiths would come on stage to this music and I was suddenly captured by it. The heaviest music I ever listened to could not compare to this!

I still love the above mentioned bands as much as ever but thanks to The Smiths and Prokofiev, my appreciation has spread further to more classical pieces.

    Wonderful!

  • Yeah m8, as Lou Reed with the V.U. would say, Those Were Different Times!! altought Moz still the Best!! this version is faster than the one The Smiths used to play before their gigs but the chills still anyway d-d-d-don't you find?

  • this song in the ballet really made it come alive. romeo and julliet will always be one of my favorite ballets and plays to study!!
