I'm amazed at the emotional response this piece gets. Looking back through the thousands of post and hundreds of thousands of views, the same results occur in the majority of cases...
...I want to be married to this song, I want this played at my funeral, I can't stop listening to it, It gives me goosebumps...
Isn't it fascinating, that a piece of music can invoke those emotions in a myriad of people of vastly different religious, economic and racial backgrounds from all around the planet?
@19Manav80 Oh dear, that movie. After I watched it I had to read more about Caligula. Turns out he was even worse than how he was portrayed in the movie.
omg. im ALMOST 17 and i heard this on the season premiere of the simpsons last night and had to find it! i love rap that is super hardcore mostly, but man i do appreciate music like this! it's so beautiful and awesome!!!! this song is badass
stunning piece of music, heard this first when i was about 9 or 10, very moving and even though i appreciate a vast array of music, not much comes close to this piece, quality! x
He was very cinematic composer. One of the best in the history of cinema art. His music to "Alexandr Nevsky" of Eisenstein is fascinating. So and this music is very graphic. I do not wonder that many-many contemporary composers borrows his ideas for theirs sound-tracks
I have listened to R & J at least a hundred times and never tire of it. Get the entire suite rendered by, say, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York etc and turn up the sound.
Romeo and Juliet have been a huge inspiration for later composers of classical music like Tchaikovsky and his overture and Prokofiev and his ballet and Bernstein West side story, and Berlioz symphony. And even popular culture like Dicaprio's movie.
I think about the fact that Prokofiev was a great chess player and suddenly this piece immediately and inevitably conjures up the image of a chessboard and the passion and sacrifice of the battle that's being held therein.
This song is excellent in Wembley Stadium, London, England when Matthew Bellamy, Dom Howard and Chris Wohlstenholme of Muse walk out to it to perform the last two shows of their tour.
It is absolutely beautiful paired with those rock stars walking into the midst of the mosh. Thumbs up if you like Muse!
The Egoiste commercial from the 90's caused my love for this piece to resurface. It is just so powerful....I LOVE celli! With headphones on, I get chills!!!
Can someone please tell me what is so powerful about this piece? I am a huge fan of classical music and am well heard. However, the only thing that sends chills through my body is the first few minutes of this piece. Other than that, I really don't know what is so good about this piece. If someone could give me a constuctive reply, that would be excellent. I am aware of Romeo and Juliet, by the way.
This music reminds me of Men who have made a great Impact on History-good and bad-fortunate and tragic. A we lose our History and hermetically seal ourselves off with our "I-something" plastic toys, I always have a Heart for the Heroes and the Rogues. The Leaders and Risk Takers. Tragically flawed but Human. Remember them through this music.

This pieces is powerfully wicked. You can feel the struggle between opposing forces. But it's not depressing and melancholy. Delightfully wicked is a better description. I hate to say that I smirk when I hear it.
I love the dissonance at the beginning; it captures the discord between the two families. Then it fades away, and you can hear the foreshadowing of tragedy.
@DezparE Orchestral saxophonists are chronically bad. They always cut corners by having a clarinet specialist play the part. While there are lots of good clarinetists who also play saxophone, most are not. That's why the saxophone always bothers you.
Ah, my... This piece is so powerful, it just grips me tightly. Really does send shivers down the spine... As if... I have to sit upright when I hear this piece. Slouching or bad posture would somehow be rude to such a powerful, commanding piece.
I really love this. It's an amazing piece of music. Masterfully drawn... Far more moving than any musics we hear today.
