Shit, I'm only 28 but I heard this on a mix tape I got from a friend in Stockholm like 15 years ago! I listen to alot of new school stuff too but I never forget the roots. Perhaps because I'm into graffiti? I think most of my friends that are my age or younger and that tend to care or know a little bit more about the roots of hip hop are writers or b-boys. People that discover hip hop today do it through the music and there's no real (new) sub culture surrounding the new music yet. :)
Shout out to all my niggas , 34 and better that patterned their breakdance style from the rock steady crew, and the new york city breakers, AND battled niggas off of this fucking record!!! . The South Bronx the fucking foundation. I'm a jersey nigga , but my mom kept me in NY, shopping etc...(when i was little) I always loved NYC, and taping shit like this and hip hop on wax vol.1 by chuck chillout off the radio ,from Mr. magic, Red, and of course Chuck Chillout!! Real hip hop fiends holla!!!!
