These are the first shots of moving earthquake cracks, while they're actually in motion. The water being squirted out of the ground is pretty darn crazy too. There are lots of videos now of liquefaction in New Zealand from the quake in Feb. 2011, but they're less dramatic.

Pretty sure it's called 'liquifaction". The reporter mentioned that he was on man made land. The same thing happened in SF during the last big one there (and before too). I think it's the water table being forced up through artificially filled- in areas. The soil isn't as tightly compacted as the real thing and can give way under structures causing them to collapse.

Liquefaction, same thing that happened in the San Francisco Marina District during the 1989 EarthQuake. Sadly all the beautiful historic homes sank & shifted; they were built on landfill also. Ironically the landfill was from the rubble of the 1906 Quake.
