Of course the books are consistent: The Old Testament was written by Jews for Jews; the New Testament was penned by ex-Jews and Gentiles who followed Jesus, whom they believed to be the Messiah spoken of in the Old Testament. Naturally, the NT authors wanted to portray Jesus in a favorable light, thus some consistency was required.
