  • not only improves the cars performance, but also makes it ... ???

  • Sporty cars don't come any cuter ;)

  • The Car Reviewers loves the Stick on this baby. Best gear action for a Compact Car.

  • i have the Sedan version, and i love it, great pick up, the best part of this car is the pick up, and the handling. i love my Mazda 2, it's been 1 year and it never makes me disappointed. :)

  • wow no kidding, a lighter car performs better!? no shit.....

  • the brake test was dumb

  • It's funny how cars like the Fiesta and Mazda 2 are JUST now coming to America. They're kinda outdated. If I lived in Europe and not the U.S., I would get a 2006 Alfa Romeo Brera. :)

  • I like pies

  • damn wtf! i didn't know there was a mazda 2

  • @Xytos i juts notice that there is a mazda 2 cuz my father says that he is going to sell my mazda 3 for this one! this SUCKS!!!!

  • hm...41m from 70mph to 0 is actually quite good. BUT 25m as claimed is not possible on normal tarmac and road tires in any car. so he must have been way slower the first time, or hit the brakes way earlier. don´t get why nobody noticed that mistake while doing this show O.o

  • @Digi20

    Good point!

  • Jazz(Fit) better =)

  • 5th Gear pulls out all the stops here to make the point that a lighter vehicle is better.

Big heavy man, exciting track driving.

But it still feels like they gave the road test to a yob in a track suit, and if you need to have it explained (that more weight will slow a car down) then you may not be bright enough to drive.

Come on chaps. Give your viewers more credit.

  • mazda2

  • I sure do love Mazdas and all non-VAG cars....but I would still buy Fiesta Sport as a second car :)

  • I need the last word of the video!

    ALSO MAKE IT WHAT>>!>>!>!?!?!?!?

    GAAHH FUCK

  • Where's the damned 3-door? Not everyone wants a 5-door!

  • Lovley little car, cool as a Fiesta?, nope. But still a nice little car, my mum owns one

  • @fagAshLil1234

fiesta cool? lol. Too common MAZDA FTW!

  • @MrTR500 same car

  • @theguythatcould

    Do you mean same underpinnings?

  • @MrTR500 i retract my statement. they share the same platform

  • @MrTR500 Mazda is shit. SUBARU FTW!

  • But also makes it... ?

  • Also, the interior of the Fiesta looks better.

  • @Atheismrulez The interior of the "feast" looks like a tacky 2004 cell phone. In 2 months it'll be an eyesore to anyone who drives it.

  • @Atheismrulez Oh yeah, the Fiesta is made in Mexico, has a cheaper chassis as it doesnt use the high tensile steel that the Mazda uses, AND it's infact more expensive on the base models. 3000 more. So I'm gonna pay more money for a shitty brand name, made in mexico vs japan, thats heavier and has a weaker chassis? I'll refrain and leave that car on the lot-- for you. :p

  • @youngbleeb

Wrong. The parts are made in the US, and assembled in Mexico. There's a difference--not that a moron like you would know, anyway. Second, you have no proof that it has a better chassis except for some bullshit marketing speak from Mazda. Third, the Fiesta is cheaper at $13,320 MSRP vs $13,980 MSRP for the Mazda 2. Fourth, if it comes to shitty companies, Mazda is much higher on the list with the ridiculous styling in all their new models

  • @Atheismrulez What, No mexican parts? Thats BS right there. Ford is ALL about profit, theyre using mexican parts! SHITS MADE IN MEXICO DOG, ARE YOU SERIOUS?? LOL Anyway, Mazda doesnt 'do' marketing, not like frod at least. High tensile steel is a REAL advance in chassis building. Ford's too CHEAP to use it. All Frods got is some bullshit "sync". Where I live, the fiesta is heavier, more expensive and cheap as shit. Might as well be made in China with a 17billion ad campaign. That's gay.

  • @youngbleeb

LOL, you act like if Mazda didn't care about profits. Wake up, moron. And Mazda makes TONS of advertisements. High tensile steel is bullshit. It won't matter to normal consumers because there's no real advantage. And I don't care about where you live. It's not my fucking problem. I'm telling you the US stats. In the US, it's a better alternative. If it's not where you live, I don't give a shit.

  • @youngbleeb

And it seems that you're too much of a moron to know the difference between "assembling" and "manufacturing".

  • @Atheismrulez Your failure to comprehend isnt my problem. Buy your fiesta, and then look the entire vehicle over and tell me you dont see made in mexico anywhere. Either you work for frod's marketing dept or you're just an idiot. You're going to have a hard sell trying to tell me that every single component used to assenble the ford, was shipped from the USA. That's not only economically stupid, but would cost ford MORE than to source at least some components locally. Ford's TOO CHEAP for that.

  • @youngbleeb

You're the only one talking bullshit. Not only do you not know the difference between assembling and manufacturing, but you actually think it somehow magically makes a difference if the car is completely made in the USA (hint: it doesn't).

You still haven't answered to any of the facts I posted.

  • @youngbleeb

You keep focusing on stupid shit that doesn't matter, yet ignore the fact that the Fiesta is the better car. There's no denying that it comes better equipped, has better fuel economy, has a more powerful engine, and costs less. These aren't opinion; they're facts.

Even if it were manufactured in Mexico (it's not, it's just assembled there), it wouldn't change SHIT. I don't care, nor should anyone. It being made in the USA won't make the car itself any better.

  • @youngbleeb

Fifth, the US Mazda 2 weighs 1050kg; the Ford Fiesta weights 1115kg. That's nothing to write home about, and the Mazda 2 weights less simply because it has less equipment standard. Sixth, the Ford Fiesta gets 40 MPG highway, while the Mazda 2 can only muster 35 MPG. This is without taking account that it should be the other way around because the Mazda 2 has less horsepower and less weight.

  • @Atheismrulez Why am I even listening to you about this North American parts bullshit. The god damned car is STAMPED at Cuautitlán Stamping. The engines are cast in CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO. Only the Mazda MZR 2.5L aka Duratec 25 and Duratec 3x V6 are cast in the USA. Gawd, your overconfident manner of spewing horse shit ALMOST had me doubting myself. I think your dubious nonsense is done here buddy.

  • @Atheismrulez Compare real figures, not EPA estimates. Ford's generally get on target, Mazdas after 05 have consistently gotten much better than EPA. It truly doesnt make sense for the heavier ford to get better economy using a Mazda engine. That's stupid. Ford's trickery once again. Standard equipment? Useless shit defeats the purpose of a minicar. Who cares what you have to say any anymore, as you've been ardently wrong previously and are just on "about face" with your diverted rants.

  • @youngbleeb

    Sure, sure, sure...

    Less equipment: great.

    Move along.

  • @youngbleeb The Fiesta uses a 1.6L engine, while the Mazda utilizes a 1.5L engine.

  • @youngbleeb The Fiesta uses a 1.6L engine, while the Mazda utilizes a 1.5L engine. besides, no one has the name Atheismrulez with out being a troll

  • @jeepman787 yup, the 1.6 is the 1.5 with a longer stroke! and good call on the troll thing lol

  • Mazda2 and Ford Fiesta is different, please see the actual car!

  • my grandpa has this =D

  • This car is in the new car pack for forza 3 tomorrow.

  • Any word on what engines North America gets? I've been pining for a V8 bigblock in a small chasis like this.

But seriously, I like this car and I don't care too much about its lineage as people seem to be bashing the Fiesta for. At face value, it looks like Ford has the better of the two. The shoddy American quality argument hopefully is a thing of the past and will not haunt them going forward. I just don't like the Mazda2's more conservative styles compared to the Fiesta.

  • Love those alloys, I hope we get those in the US!

  • If I could afford a Mazda 2, I'd get a Mazda 2.

    If I could afford a Bentley, I'd get a Mazda 2.

    If I could afford a mansion, I'd get a Mazda 2.

I'd still get the mansion and Bentley if I could afford them, but the Mazda 2 is just so insanely good that as a daily car, it is epic.

I can't wait to see the mods that start getting made for this baby once us Americans get our hands on it.

  • I detest this car. Clutch and accelerator is far too sensitive for my liking.

  • lighter is better in everyways

  • 10.5 seconds for insurance group 16? swift sport does it in 8.9 for insurance group 9. what gives.

  • What's crazy is while the new fiesta is nice, in NA (canada), it's barebones hatch price was something like 17k, while the mazda 2 is 14k hatch standard.

Granted, fiesta sedan is only 13k (although it's missing AC, MP3/CD, power windows, and possibly other stuff). It's incredible how it's such a big difference, but I guess they feel like loading the hatch up with extras, which I HATE.

@energymc22 you're calling them liars, or just idiots? Either way I'd believe them over you any day.

  • I've drive it before, actually my friend's car with loads of option, sadly in Thailand doesn't have manual tranny in the highest version for Mazda 2.

After I've driven I had to say it's very lovely!!! I want one!

  • 200 kilos lighter than its predecessor? That's a ton! Other car makers should follow in Mazda's footsteps.

  • 25m to stop from 70mph is definately wrong... way too quick. And theres no way that adding 200kg will increase the stopping distance by over 60%. I think its about time the people who produce these programs actually knew stuff about cars before sprouting rubbish like this without a second thought, its clearly wrong when you'd be lucky to get a car like this to stop from 70mph in 50m.

  • Awesome. I love the Mazda2.

Thanks for posting. Please check out our newly updated channel, and subscribe.

  • Best in class for sure. When it comes to US/Canada there will be nothing else to consider (Fiesta is next-best thing though) if you actually care about a car's X-Factor.

If you don't then get a Honda Fit and keep wearing your pleated trousers.

  • MazdaSPEED 2 would be awesome!

i like it as it is too though.

too bad the US only gets the 5 door hatch. I was really looking forward to the 3 door. :(

  • This car is my favourite ZOOM ZOOm

  • I saw this model (mazda 2) at a local mall here in the Philippines. it really looks good, for me it looks better than the new honda city. =)

  • this car is sweet! the car is also available in philippines, and wow! it has a mx-5's performance and i can tell it by looking at it. it also has the mazda 6's tail lights. and mazda 3's looks.

  • swweet little car, shame they dont do a 120 bhp version, a 8.5 sec 0-60, and 125 top end would be an absolute monster of a warm hatch, id get one defo, and they look amazing, id rather have the 1.5 sport than the fiat 500 1.4 sport, actaully, wait the interior....

  • cool car, i like it way better than the honda fit, and i love how it's so tiny and it's more lightweight than my honda crx si that's 5 inches shorter in length and 7 inches shorter in height, not bad, and it looks pretty cool too, i wouldn't want one cause they're not fast but i'd like to see mazdaspeed2 of this car.

  • Don't like um...

Just looks like a new pug to me...Umm

  • i just got a 2009 "59" plate mazda 2 sport 3dr in black. It's a beautiful little hot hatch and already been caught speeding after a week oops :)

  • Now when he says 70 during the break test, does he mean 70 mph?

  • ye as we don't measure speed in Kmh in the UK

  • I seriously doubt it. The braking distance would only have been 82 feet and that would make this car godly.

  • yes

  • This also goes to prove that being in shape will make your car perform much better :D

  • @mrjost55 the big guy is in better shape... STRONGEST MAN... the host is just a light skinny bloke

  • @louiearmstrong I should have reworded it. I meant less weight = faster

  • @mrjost55 Instead of tipping smart cars now, lets all tip 2s [= lol.

  • This is a hot hatch, great car. I drove a Civic Hatch, Volks Wagon R32, Honda Fit, Suzuki Swift, Subaru wrx hatch & etc.

I like small cars and midsize cars. I can mod these cars to go faster then stock.

  • yeah it looks like a yaris.

  • this or the jazz/fit?

  • This is a Fiesta. Because of its sales success Ford is using the chassis to bring a subcompact to N.A. theyre the SAME people !!

    I'm still buyin a Fiesta though :p

  • Same basic chassis as the Fiesta, yes. But completely different engineering altogether.

  • Then the Fiesta is a Mazda 2, which was known already, sinds Mazda and Ford work together.

  • But, the Fiesta is a lot heavier. 5-door hatch: 2537 lbs (1150kg) The Mazda 2 (I don't know if it's 3-door or 5-door) is 2100 lbs (953kg). One of the biggest selling points of the Mazda2-Fiesta brothers (sisters) is their lightness and the Fiesta is much weaker in that department. I guess that's why weight saving isn't much emphasized for the Fiesta.

  • seem yaris+jazz

  • It looks like a Volkswagen Golf lol, I like the car, I thinks its a great buy.

  • The MAZDA2 was launched in Thailand yesterday at Central World.

Mazda's ' made in Thailand' hatch back will be competing with Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz.

The price: THB 535,000 and THB 690,000

The 'Zoom-Zoom' Thailand Team is planiing to sell 1,100 units next year.

  • If the Fiesta is coming to the US, this should also! I like it.

  • its coming in 2011

  • It looks kool but I like my 666 better( 2006, Mazda 6, V6)

  • Nice little car--seems to go well too.

  • reminds me YARIS

  • can't wait until it comes to North America

  • Thats It!!!

    I'm choosing this over a Mazda 3

  • My dream car :)

  • its really out of sync lol

  • Reminds me of a Toyota Yaris hahaha or the Nissan Versa ..

  • It's funny how much buzz the Ford Fiesta is getting, but the car the Fiesta is based on, this Mazda 2, no one really knows about. What a shame, Ford is getting so much credit for all the models based on Mazda

  • Only in North America, In Australia, the Mazda 2 is getting wildly popular by the minute, in fact, soon it'll be challenging the Toyota Yaris for Australia's favourite small car! In contrast, the new 6th generation Ford Fiesta hasn't really exploded yet down under.

  • @youngbleeb Yes, but Fiesta is a better designed car. It has higher quality materials, a dash that has twu full dial gauges, a dual clutch automatic, etc. In other words, it is an example, how a good chasis could make better car or not by designers.

  • @Fussinated Funny, I'm pretty sure the high tensile steel chassis was originally on the Mazda2. Check the crash tests. The rest of what you said is totally subjective, and dubious at best. Ford always puts less money into their Mazda clones than Mazda does on their originals.

  • @youngbleeb

    The 2 just looks too...Harmless.

  • @tipoomaster I think that might be a good thing. Surely I wouldnt want my car to look like it's conspiring to get into an accident and kill me lol

  • @youngbleeb

It's getting more buzz because it's a better car. It looks better, has somewhat better fuel economy, has a more powerful engine, is more fun to drive, and has a lower asking price. There's also more and better available trims for the Fiesta.

Finally, more and better marketing can go a long way. There's tons of ads for the Fiesta; I've yet to see one for the Mazda 2.

  • @Atheismrulez Your last point is your only valid one. Ford has the marketing machine running out of control. As a consumer, I think I'll prefer an automaker putting that money into the actual vehicle, instead of psychological conditioning. That said, "more powerful engine"? You realise the entire thing aside from the sheet metal, lights and interior are all Mazda right. So Ford is offering a more powerful Mazda engine? lol. dumb. Also, how does a heavier version = more fun to drive? lol dumb.

  • @youngbleeb not only is it Fiesta=Mazda2 but in Canada the Ford Ranger pickup is the same as the Mazda B-Series pickup

  • @Rangeroversport12 the 3 and the focus are the same in other parts of the world as well.

  • @youngbleeb just let it go. Mazda is still and always be a great car for those who really loved it. Nothing has a ZoomZoom except Mazda it self. :)

  • @youngbleeb the mazda is based on a ford platform, sorry friend ;)

  • @youngbleeb my apologize just researched it and its co developed by both ford and mazda, mah bad :3

  • @youngbleeb it's not based on it, it was a jointly developed. Think of the Saab 9000, Fiat Chroma, Lancia Thema and Alfa-Romeo 164. Essentially the same platform but dressed differently by different manufacturers. One is not based on the other and some became much more popular than the other.

  • @sturroma Actually it wasn't much of a joint venture. With examples you mentioned, it's true, but the Mazda2/Fiesta is really a Mazda "DE" platform. It uses a Mazda "Z" engine in both, only the Ford uses a unique DSG gearbox. The DE chassis is a 5th generation Mazda subcompact chassis, as "E" suggests. Ford classically uses Mazda engineered chassis to put their own sheet metal onto. This has been an arrangement since at least 1979. Also the 2/Demio obviously sold 1.5yrs before Ford's knockoff

  • @youngbleeb May I correct you, dear Sir. Mazdas are based on Fords platforms, not Fords on Mazdas.

For example, Mazda 2 is based on Fiesta, Mazda 3 is based on Focus.

  • @846524162

    You're a moron.

  • @t3hRevenge No, I am not. I just know the right facts and you clearly don't.

  • @846524162 You may correct me anytime, only if you have correct information. In this case, you may not. You should perhaps do some in-depth research, perhaps take yourself back in time to the 90's and learn more about the Ford/Mazda relationship. Or simply, save your time and read my prior comments, which are 100% factual. Good day.

  • @youngbleeb Ok, you are right. Some older Ford models were using Mazdas platform, back in 90's.

But I was talking about newer cars, like Mazda 3 and 2. The older and newer Mazda 3 were using Ford Focus C1 platfrom and Mazda 2 are using Fords B3 platform.

  • @846524162 Nothing's changed my friend. I am too, talking about present day cars ;) The chassis codes you quoted, are simply just Ford's codes. Fiesta is a Mazda "D" chassis... DE is the code, "E" means FIFTH generation. It's newer to Ford who calls it B3, THIRD generation. Mazda3 is based on B chassis "BL" is the current code, L signifying 12th generation. That's right TWELVE GENS! Because Mazda3 was called 323/Familia before. This is why the car excels in it's class..

  • @846524162 The company whose engineers designed the Fusion, Edge, Focus (EU), and Fiesta chassis'... was Mazda. Some (minor) input from Ford teams was used, yes, but Mazda engineers do basically all of the work. Trust me, in that nothing has changed. Ford made such fanfare about dishing out money to do 90's Mondeo chassis from scratch.. and realised then that they will get no sweeter deal than continuing to pull engineering from Mazda. Look, Ford went *suddenly* from absolute CRAP to now just OK

  • @youngbleeb Ok, looks like you know a lot about this things. But I read a lot of car reviews and tests and so on and wherever I looked, it said: '' Mazda is a great car, thanks to Ford impressive chassis.'' And I mean, Everywhere.

So whats the point of doing that? As I know, Ford owns ''small'' stake at Mazda company so its not logically at all. Are they just naming it like its Fords, because Ford is so huge?

  • somebody wants to calculate the weight of the guy? xD

  • is this a 1.4 litre or 1.2litre

  • I think it is a 1.5

  • @cranding actually it's the sport, so it's got a 1.3l or a 1.5l petrol engine, or even a 1.6 diesel engine. for this one i'd bet for the 1.5l petrol, cause it's the most powerful with 103 bhp

  • Is the Mazda 2 made in the same factory as they make the Fiesta in Valencia or do they actually make them in Japan?

  • In Japan now because of the problems with the previous one

  • The Mazda2 is made in Japan, at Hiroshima.

  • Japan

  • mazda 2 is also in Colombia not only asi and aurope

  • mazda 2'

  • is the mazda2 only europe and asia?

    i own a mazda3 and i never even heard of the mazda2

  • I've driven one in Australia -- right-hand drive.

  • South America too

  • i think it is because city cars are not really popular in the us

  • Not sure, only just started advertising it in the UK. Looks like a nice small version of the Mazda 3, wonder if it performance anywhere as near. Seeing Mazda 3 MPS is the fastest, most comftable hot hatch around.

  • Really good car , Fiesta looks good in black but seen loads already, New astra next year

The mazda 2 now has free insurance and car tax for a year

  • i have a mazda 2 i agree best best best car ! i have it in pearl white:)

  • the old one is much better.

  • cool

  • 俺も最近買ったョ

    おもったほど燃費良くない・・・踏みすぎ?

  • Nice thoughts man...

  • I love it in that colour. I'd get it either in that or white!

  • White is cool. Looks great in it. With black wheels, maybe 17"...

  • I got it white, I love it...

  • best car

  • i need advice pls,i can have a yaris or a fiesta in june,or i can wait for the new polo in october :(..o yea or a mazda2

  • What about seat Ibiza

    is good car

  • I'd go for either the 2 or the Polo. IMO, the Yaris looks kind of odd. The Fiesta looks good, now. But, in 1/2 years, you'll see them everywhere. It'll be like the Vauxhall Astra - at first it looked awesome, but now you're sick of the sight of them, because they're that common. So, if you can't wait for the 2, go for the Polo. Just, so you can own a car that's new out, appose to a car that's been out for a couple of years. But, that's just what I think. You'll be driving it!

  • get a mazda 2 :D btw. My dad is the general importer of mazda in macedonia :P

  • fiesta is ugly in my opinion it has a big ass ford logo which looks bigger than the entire car. the yaris is a good car and toyotas usually do last awhile and the mazda 2 is a good car both cars have great motors and are good gas mpg cars so its really what U want but if it was me id get a 2

  • mazda have a great range of fun, sytlish and reliable cars. take note toyota

  • I've just bought one of these tday, won't get it for a few weeks yet though...can't wait!!! xx

  • they should do a MPS version of this with about 180bhp

  • crazy! =)

  • lool

  • That would be v cool. But then, they would need to lower the roof or make the bottom heavyer/wider. I have 2007 mazda 3 and its awesome , I haven't had any problems with it at all. The plastic interior could be better thogh. And I love the engine sound, when the rpm hits 4000.

  • i had this car for a year now, and i hav to say its a cracker,, awesome handling, excellent electronic steering, auto box shifts smartly, i can't find a fault wid this car. The interior plastics could be better though

  • I got a red mazda 2 so its a well car.

  • I have a 2006 2.3 M3 5 door gran touring, I like this M2, too bad they don't have them here in California. I like it!

  • I want a yellow Mazda, but the president of Mazda is is a big lightly; they have yellow color in the catalog but not deliver Mazda 2 in yellow color for Europe. Maybe they haven't yellow paint in their factory.

  • I just bought it, so that's not true. But my car sales man said they are going to change this coulor and they will make orange ones. Check it out. Maybe you can still get it.

  • Again, for the last time, they claim 25 meters from this POS car.

And Porsche 911 turbo, with the upgrade: ceramic composite brakes package, stops in 32 meters.

Do you understand why I am raising the B.S. flag?

  • well i kinda understand what you are saying. but there are other things which affect stopping distance. weight and speed (how fast the car was going before braking). so if the car is realy light and moves as fast as a turtle, it could stop faster.

  • @LLCoolPass The 911 weighs 600-700lb more.

  • Bought my Mazda 2 this morning in Australia. Great little car. The Aus version is heavier though because it has extra safety features. But very fun to drive.

  • The error is probably from the driver's response time. Looks like he hits the brake as soon as he passes the cone. Would that guarantee an accurate result? I doubt that.

  • cause people actually buy this car and they hate you because you say it is a piece of shit well thats what I think lol

  • It's a small city car ( 1.3 or 1.5 litre engine). There's no mention of it being better than any sports car. The dude even says it's not trying to be a hothatch...I think it serves its purpose well. If you are looking for more muscle try Mazda 3 MPS.

  • Wow, your response is so... non-sequitor-filled that I want to either slap you, or myself, in the head to deal with my mental anguish. READ CAREFULLY: THEY ARE CLAIMING IT STOPS SIGNIFIGANTLY FASTER THAN THE BEST SUPERCARS available today.
