  • who's the lucky guy missy? who is he?

  • Keep coming back to this video trying to find ways to explain my interest in vlogging! Have wanted to do so for like four years now but keep myself from it since ppl don't understand ;P

  • natile portman doppleganger......?

  • you have a beautiful accent. Where is it from?

..and your videos are encouraging me to start a youtube vlog.

    Keep the videos coming!

  • Our on line lives are as real as anything we see or hear, given the limitations of the medium. It's as powerful as TV or cinema, except we make it. It feels real, but doesn't look real to "outsiders". Or maybe we are all just crazy!

  • I LOVE YOU.

    Te Amo.

  • It's like AVATAR. Yes, I agree with you

  • this chick has amazing features

  • Jag förstår dig! :D

  • is that a g shock?

    if so

    NICE!

  • Your channel is a place where I can escape, it is cozy and interesting place.

God bless the Emma`s world :)

  • Quit quoting me lol. I said that first. Just check her profile quotes.

  • but if u were really ugly I prob wouldn't watch the videos tbh lol.

  • you know making videos is a bit retarded, just admit it LOL. Who cares tho really. Just keepdoing it if you enjoy it. I feel retarded just watching sometimes, but I do enjoy, so I subscribe.

  • hey! i don't think i watched this vid, but i want to say that i miss your videos. why? because some of them are really good and funny. i wish i could speak your language (swedish?) so i could communicate how much you've made me smile >:)

  • why do Scandinavian English speakers have American accents?

  • you never make videos anymore :(

  • wtf, you're swedish ? You don't sound swedish at all .. Oh well, i know what you mean. Actually i completley know what you mean. I use gaming as sort of an escape aswell as youtube. Gaming is a whole other thing than youtube, because as you said. It's more "real" in a sense where you actually have contact with people. Ofcourse you can have that in an online game, but it's not the same.. Oh well, great video ! =)

  • Btw, nice tivoli stereo system!

  • Couldn't have said it better...same thoughts on my mind..

  • Does my earlier post make any sense or am I way off the mark?

  • It's all alright- It's some psychology complications, I sometimes bike up a hill or walk up a mountain or just walk in circles to figure things out, settle down for awhile maybe for just a day- but spontaneity can't be reigned without balance and respect to indulgence the natural awe of life. That's it! It's life! but- what is escape? how can one escape? I ask it too.

Sometimes it's pretty bland to be bold (be who you really are inside) the real you, inside you asides from insecurities etc.

  • listened to the whole vid. i just have one question....

    huh????

what in the h*ll r u talking about.

  • I love the Stronger vinyl in the background! Random, but you get props for that.

  • Did my last comment post?

  • Cool blog eemma

I'm the new prez, queen alliah

Want to do a fun collab sometime?

  • Is it that your source of escape has an especially strong connection to humanity? I don't mean that in the way that phrase gets tossed around so often. I mean when you say you feel more real, would it be better to say you feel like you're part of the big picture? Eg. more aware of your community/society.

  • eemma, i was doing research on shanghai and came across your video. would love to know more about your journeys to china and japan.

you are very mature (mentally) for your age, with a cosmopolitan outlook. there prob is also an actor in you, that makes want to live different or parallel lives. it would be interesting to hear your life story.

  • OMG this really is good stuff, and i do know where you are coming from :)

  • I understand what your saying all the way.

  • Good topic, think a lot of people will encounter this. I think its not so much a 'seperation' of online and real life but rather a different form of connecting. For example my school friends are different then the friends I have on my soccer team. Still friends but connected differently. Same goes for youtube, the connections here are different in the sense that they are more free from social imposed standards from real life. Hmm I smell a good essay topic here :D

  • yea true :D

  • Has your boyfriend left you?

  • i know EXACTLY what you're talking about...

remember many many moons ago when i messaged you about how the people in your life react to your online life? i have the SAME dilemma-- i can't find a balance between the two! i love that you made this video-- from one online "weirdo" to another. :)

  • Not sure that that is how I feel atm tho. I don't have a hard time balancing them! I like it the way it is, keeping my online life "private" so to speak..

  • blah, blah i love you<333

  • Its nothing diffrent as being addicted to MMORPG's like World of Warcraft.. People live 2 lives at once... You will eventually get tired of one of them... Hopefully the online!

  • say after me: "I'm addicted!" :D

  • *refuses*

  • i agree fully. I use city of heroes and youtube as an escape from the daily grind. i play C.O.H. then create music videos based off my character on the game. Only ones that view the site are my online friends not my real life friends I live around.

  • Sounds nice :)

  • btw, why do so many europeans who can speak english have american-sounding accents? it's always so surprising to hear.

  • Yes, I wonder too...

  • Cus we watch american TV, listen to american music. But i lived a little in the states about 11 years ago. So it's prolly cus of that.

  • i use youtube as an escape as well. for instance, especially at the moment, taking a break from school or work, and taking a few moments to forget about the stress of everyday. it's a release in a way.

  • Yea! But to me it's constant and bigger!

  • making a youtube video is like taking a really enjoyable poo. Once its done its a sense of releif and release. Plus all my videos are shit lol. Thats my thoughts...

  • lmao

  • I want the violence-loving headshots Emma to be real! Say its real! :P

  • You are trying to figure out why are you making videos? I'll give you a simple answer:

you make videos to make my day better.

This is probably the dumbest comment I've ever made. But who cares? I barely get to see stunning people around. I'd probably do more retarded things for the sake of it.

  • haha xD Thank u :)

  • i can totally relate to what you are saying

i enjoy having my real life and youtube life as seperate as possible... i don't really like when a lot of my friends know i make videos

it is a different community.... you can find people who you have a lot in common with you so much faster and easier

it is an escape from reality.... you can interact with people and information in a whole new way...

i understand what you are saying and i agree

  • hehe mm We're all here on YT, and we all love YT so at least we have that in common :)

  • Comment removed

  • it is strange... this alternate reality of sorts.... sometimes it feels like an escape... and sometimes it feelsl ike you are more real here than anywhere else... at least for some people... I feel like I can express certain things on the internet better given the time delay and ability to write out specifically what i mean

  • yeah I know how you feel, it's like...nice to have something that your friends isn't a part of, it's your own little thing and that's what I enjoy asbout youtube a´nd twítter, when my friends found about me having a twitter and a youtube they immediately made fun of me, but I didn't care becouse they don't know what they are talking about.

  • Totally :) Good, keep going!

  • if the videos you make is reality (and i'm not saying that it's not), then you have one of the more interesting reality series! =)

  • lolz ^^

  • NO one in my real life knows about my Ütube... but then I just watch on this channel. Hummm I may seem a voyer. I understand you and love it. I have a FB account that my real world knows about. I have friends and family there. Who I sub here and converse with here is just for me. I have told you for years... you are like a breathe of fresh air.. I still believe that. U r a class act. "werty"

  • Thank u :)

  • I don't like having ppl I know IRL interact with me on YouTube or Twitter. Just seems weird to me, and I try to avoid it. I like having two separate worlds. Definitely can relate.

  • "Discover it on your own and see the greatness of it." Is that a hidden reference to me? Am I "the greatness of it"? If so, then thanks! :P

  • hahah xD Try again!

  • "you people"?

If I were black I'd say something.

  • We reside in a physical superficial materialistic world.

  • I think you describe a main problem. You brought it to a excelent point. But I can't solve that Question for myself. I use mainly Twitter. I think no one else can watch the Twitter timeline of you and really understand whats the meaning for yourself. But - somehow we interact in a very deep kind of matter. Thank you for your words. It gave me a lot of good points to think about. Maybe there is a more deep connection - but the everyday life is obviating these kind of connections.

  • Mmm maybe! I liked this; "But - somehow we interact in a very deep kind of matter." True.

  • I could write so many things about this... but yeah. "EXACTLY!" <--- that's all you get! :)

  • ktnxbye lol! :D

  • agree *****, and youtube is much better for all this that any other video sharing site :-)

  • Would you say YouTube is one of the few places where you can be completely honest and vulnerable about whatever is on your mind? A place where you be completely honest about who you are and not worry about anything else? Thats what it sounded like to me but I could be way off.

  • Almost.

  • Jesus christ Eemma. This "escape" of which you speak is a very common thing. Alot of people escape into games, into communities and even into eating habbits to escape their current situation. (Or to take a break from reality)

It's nothing complicated nor deep or even new.

But it was fun listening to you as always.

  • the ideas are too big for a Youtube comment to really encapsulate even the spirit of the message, but I just wanted to say that you are talking about a very important, life-changing, revolutionary theme that should be talked about more...Jot down some of your thoughts of this on paper and try to organize your feelings a little more because I'd like to see another video talking about this!

Or a video about cats! : ) They are purrdy cute! (Oh, lord, what a bad pun, lolz)

  • Hehe tnx. And I agree. I think i'll for some some kitteeeehs tho! ^^ nom nom

  • I understand what you're trying to say, I think. The argument can be expressed in many ways; Escapism to a more glamourous existance where you have thousands of people listening to you, making you feel important and powerful...A break from the stress and choices you are thrust into in real life...A personal little corner of the internet that doesn't belong to the "Eemma" that your friends know and expect, where you can be a different person and follow the heretofore undreamed dream...

  • Hehe maybe! But it's got nothing to do w fame.

  • glad you make videos eemma, your videos are very thought provoking ;)

  • Been thinking about this all day...

It's in some way an escape but the true meaning of it all is not just that I think. Being part of online communities and playing online games (especially MMO) is an ENHANCEMENT imo. It makes your life more complete, richer, broadening your mind ^^v

  • Yea that's what I sorta of said at the end.. "If anything "escaping" has made me more open" And of course u have to keep it all moderate and not let it TAKE OVER your life! (btw your comment shows now on the top! :D)

  • You are the best Emma:)

  • I understand what you mean, Eemma. Especially when you started talking about gamers and how they escape into the games itself. Always when I'm feeling sad, I game. People around me think it's completely ridiculous, because gaming is just to relief you from boredom, but to me it also has another value than just gaming when getting bored. I can express myself better, and it is a satisfaction. It's like it's clearing my mind and preparing for something new, that's how I feel.

  • yea! I like this; "I can express myself better, and it is a satisfaction." Can relate to that!

  • makes a lot of sense.

  • I understand. I can relate to this just perfectly. And I'm lucky that my family and friends are mostly being supportive about my youtube videos. :)

  • Who couldn't be? ^^

  • Cooooooooooooool Can i buy you a drink???

  • RedBull ktnxbye

  • Your too expensive :)

  • expensive?

  • Red bull is expensive, cheaper drinking vodka

  • Das war richtig. Ich fühle die gleiche Weise. Danke :)gm90210

  • danke schön guten tag

  • You have it so perfect, it is so hard to explain to friends...I have stopped trying to. They think it is odd, and I think it is odd that they don't get it.

Glad to see a video from you!!

    Mike

  • I like this; "They think it is odd, and I think it is odd that they don't get it." True :) Hope u're doing good!!!

  • In the great words of Mischof Baxtor.

Those who escape the reality of non reality are, in turn, realists within themselves.

    Deep stuff.

actually ..it means nothing. I just made something up for fun

    Just remember 1 thing eemma

Keep making vids ..because ..you're cool :)

  • lmao!!

  • I am asked quite often why I bother with forums, youtube etc and it is really hard to explain it. Especially the youtube part. People that aren't active on the site can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that their are people behind the user names.

I found it became easier to describe once I became a youtube partner. The revenue stream seems to be a justification in many of my friends eyes. I don't know, I enjoyed youtube before partnership as much as I do now.

  • Hehe yea. That's sad tho.. it's not at all about fame or money to me =/ That's the simple way of looking at it. And that's what ppl think it's about. So yea.. what's the use in explaining?

  • exactly what lextastic said

  • Emma long time no see, lol, very nice g-shock, and kind of understood the vid :P, keep on making vids!

  • Kind of? Watch it again!

  • I know exactly what you mean!

  • although im not as active as you i do get what you are saying. im like living together with all the people that im subscribed to in this youtube reality and i also discovered the greatness of it all a long time ago. its like i know them (which ofcourse i dont, but since its a "youtube reality" i really dont have to know them that well) and share their experiences. yes i do have a very good normal life, but its kinda like the place i have these other people that i can communicate you know :)

  • I feel that too :)

  • I totally agree and feel the same way.

  • I feel ya Emma, its a way to get away from the real world.. hehe..

  • I've had a very similar experience. I started putting up videos on Youtube a few years ago and nobody I knew was doing it (I have way fewer subscribers than you). Then, the other night, I went to dinner with a large group of friends and they all wanted to talk about my videos. It turned out that even though they don't do it, the all loved reading my blog, Twitter and watching my Youtube videos. I have no idea why I do it either, it's just a compulsion to tell the story of how I see the world.

  • Goody :) Keep up the good work!

  • Nice one dstone2004 thats right on the spot in my case and prob. for alot of online users. Im into playing quake3 and has been doing it online for years (98)... its about control. putting everything aside and focus on your gameplay

  • It's an escape and it's also about control.

In the real world, even when we're simply watching tv, someone else is mostly in control, but on the internet or video games, we have more control, and most people prefer to have control.

  • Indeed :) That's what I like about YT! But we used to have more control back in the days on here, before Google etc.

  • I have no idea what you are talking 'bout but I totally agree.

  • *high fives*

  • Agreed! I think about it in exactly the same way. My friends aren't really into youtube (as a community thing) and twitter. I think of it as an escape, but I also get more perspective on things. One can see that every one is the same, it doens't matter where one lives on the globe. Maybe you're familiar with Diggnation (.com), that's my escape. I just love how they talk about tech and that they're just normal guys. Very famous on the internet - not "in real life".

  • Yea :)

  • thx for this very open and deep vlog emma. thats getting rare these days on here.

now if a friend of yours from the real world would see all your vlogs on here and would talk to you about it all, would u feel kinda odddd and...u know...or would u like it and be happy to share all this such openly?

  • isnt it all about being much more open in the online world than in the real world? thats my experience. u share stuff about yourself much easier and much faster than u do in the real world. its like theres a certain trust in it, a trust u built on thats not there in the real world that fast. its like ure part of a special unit, like a feeling that connects in a special way..and thats giving strenght, cause u view things through the eyes of your unit and share your experiences with them.

  • You know Eemma, most of us are here for those very reasons. One day, you try and upload your first video, and the feedback is unexpected, massive and often very positive.

And this esperience is what we all have in common here. Like an unsaid bond.

Besides, since we don't know one another online, we tend to express different things, and they are interpreted in a different way from that of our family and friends.

It's the same difference as when you write letters instead of phoning... ;)

  • Ppl arent friendly on here anymore =/ You guys are tho! But i'd say u mostly get hated on if u were to start off doing vids on here now.

  • I feel the EXACT same way, but in the last time I didnt sort of feel the "need" to escape, so --> no videos from me, :-). And I also think that ppl that come to these sites now cant really feel this "magic" or get hooked to the phenomenon easily, wheareas ppl in the old days felt sort of being a pioneer and had a sense of community. Today, these sites are more or less just a tool and that is sad, but pure reality. SO, ppl from the old days, stick together and communicate!!!! :-), pZ

  • Very well said. Again that's what keeps me from ever being able to explain it to my IRL friends. They don't know the story!!

  • yeah, but then... I mean, you said it before... why bother to explain it to them?? Just keep it as your lil secret, :-). We all have lil secrets, lol, PZ.

  • Eemma FTW!

  • I know exactly what you mean.

I made a video with a friend once and some of his friend saw some of my own videos of me talking to the camera. And when I met them they said: Oh, you're that guy who talks to yourself.

  • We DON'T talk to ourselves! We talk to each other :) Keep making videos now!

  • tnx for the video Emma ! I really wish you had some more free time and make some sweet videos like you always do... take care !

  • nice Tivoli stereo you have there!! :)

you have the black wood and silver. :)

the classic wood and light brown at the front are old school tho.

  • I like the black better ^^ Fits in w everything!

  • I wish I had the courage to make videos here and talk about... everything. But I'm paranoid, so I would be so embarrassed if friends and family found my videos. Keep on escaping, I really like your videos! :)

  • What would happen if someone u knew saw your vids?

  • my friends and family in real life are all ass holes, I come to the interwebs to meet nice people that treat me like a real person. Just today, I spent some time with my grandma and she has always hated me (she hates all men), so now I'm here where people are kind and friendly.

    Hugs

    David

  • lmao!!! Sorry to hear that David! :P Welcome to the family! Share the looooooove ppl!

  • I've been "on-line" a while and I understand exactly what you mean. Your online line life is an aspect of yourself or expression of your personality your friends know about but don't understand - or get the significances of. Sigh.... ;-)

  • Yea! :)

  • DEFINITELY! I totally agree, I can relate to you. :)

  • U're just saying that! Now gimme 5 stars instead!!!

  • This explanation was kinda cute. For me, it's pretty simple. Some of us are just more comfortable interacting online. Until people get drawn into an online community, the concept might sound a little strange. Who needs an online friendship, they may ask. But online, there's a community for everything. It's a lot different than interacting with the same people everyday IRL. When you go online, you're really forced to think and produce. It's intellectual. I like that.

  • Nice angel. I like this; "When you go online, you're really forced to think and produce. It's intellectual."

  • Hi Eemma...if I understand you, I think you're trying to say that YouTube & Twitter are parts of a subculture in which you are an active member. This differentiates you from your regular everyday friends who don't belong to the on-line subculture and do not appreciate the rewards & benefits of belonging like you do. Perhaps you find it personally gratifying to be able to reach out to 'on-line communities' and find rewards that others in the larger culture don't understand as well as you do.

  • Nooow if i could write shit that good ;D Lol! Well said! But then there's also the part about escaping!

  • Ha Ha...thank-you so much my dear! : ) I wanted to say more but remember we're limited to just so many words in our written responses!

I know you like the theme of 'escaping' whether its to exotic places like Japan or conceptual places like cyberspace. I hope you keep at

it one way or another all your life. Cheers!

  • Will do :)

  • Ja jo. Men du fattar vad jag menar.

  • (F) (-:P

im rushing out to film shoot ill write a proper comment l8ter this is sort of the anna was here comment

  • You sound so much like an artist here.

Try not to question it. You know what your doing. Maybe not consciously, but hell who really does.

  • I need to question it cus i'm the only one of my IRL friends that gets this. I feel weird.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know where to put myself in all of this :) I totally get what you mean :) I feel the same thing, except for the posting videos part.. :) <3

  • U're in the middle ;)

  • i kinda know what u mean. i talk about youtube video all the time but i never say what my channel is. i also have different email for friends and efriends. they are two different worlds and u r in both.

  • You are looking for your Jerusalem, you in a quest for your existential arrengement where everything is possible; your Pasargada (look that up on google). Also google those words just like it is, and read the first likn which comes up: paris may be for lovers jerusalem visionaries -

  • Hum.

  • Nja.. YT _är_ en del av livet också :)

  • Sure I recognize myself. I remember bringind up that subject with you. You are looking for real love and a place where you can be your true self. Somewhere you can be what you still can't be in real life. Your are doing therapy to yourself by defragmenting your memories, and putting them together, so your mind can process than better and help you cope with reality. Just as your computer does to its memory, in order to maintain its functionability properly. Your eyebrows looking better than ver!

  • Hehe i recognize some of this! "Somewhere you can be what you still can't be in real life." True. Very true.

  • I know exactly what you mean. I think it's perfectly normal. I don't share some of my "hobbies" with people because they involve the internet. If I tried to explain people why I do my videos, they'd never understand. I do other things on the internet too that no outsiders really understand.

It's like trying to explain to me why someone play's football. I hate football, but some people love it.

So yes, it's okay. You're normal!

    - Saxman, a true American legend

  • haha! I like that; "It's like trying to explain to me why someone play's football. I hate football, but some people love it." lol

  • To preserve relationships from the vulnerability of being "local," people seldom present their "real" personalities locally. If we feel like behaving one way in a situation, but are concerned about local reactions, we restrain ourselves to minimize judgment and even loss. But, online, we can say more of what we really feel because we are less dependent on the participants. Online, we express aspects of our selves that are inconvenient in face-to-face contact. Is that what you wanted to say?

  • No, not at all actually :) Cus I don't care at all what ppl think. I'm doing what I enjoy and it's not hurting anyone. So what do i care, right? I don't want to force anything onto ppl.. if someone really deeply cared about my online life, i'd try to explain it to them. But often i just go w the short version cus i know they won't get it anyway. It's got nothing to do w being judged.

  • I hear what you're layin down Emma and I approve of this message.♥

  • Eeeemmmmmaaaaa! :D

    Arigato gozaimasu.

  • Eema, how did you first get involved with making your videos? I'm curious.

I'm involved with online activities, too. But, as time goes on I think I'm being drawn away from internet activities and my internet persona matches my outside world one. But, when I was a teenager, I definitely felt a divide. I think some people just don't recognize information on a screen as being produced by another human.

  • hehe :) I was on here pretty much from the start, although I didn't make videos right away. I was VERY reluctant to making em at first. English isn't my first language and i hated hearing my voice lol. I couldn't understand how ppl could be so relaxed in front of the camera! But i finally made a video response to someone i subbed to. I loved shooting and editing it. I used my dad's old compact camera that could record like 2 min and then edited in windows movie maker.

  • Everyone used that back then. And no-one cared that it all looked crap. lol "Waahh!! How did u make the text move like that??" Everybody just did their best! Ahhhh, the good old days! lol

  • LOOOL Eemma, I still use the movie maker.... damn, does that make me a bad tuber now??? heheheeh, greetzli, marty

  • No, just old-school :D Stick to it!

  • i agree

  • I know what you mean. It's like being Alice in Wonderland. The people here are real but not real. You're a video amongst thousands of other videos. You're only alive when you're on but when you're not on you're not alive even though you are when you make the video then you fade to obscurity. However if you built that snowbunny then it would be different. Sorry I digress.

  • hahah :D Yea, it's very true. But it can evolve into something else... if u make friends on here, i'd say u're alive all the time.

About the snowbunny now dammit.. how the hell would i make one? :P

  • hi ! i hope you have a nice day. don't forget to smile and just be happy. bye!!!

  • I know what you're talking about, I usually HATE when somebody i know watch my videos,subscribe,etc...Is a really awkward situation.

  • Hehe, it's not awkward at all to me! But.. now that I come to think of it.. When I got featured on the Swedish YT-main page ppl in school that i never spoke to cus i wasn't "worthy their attention", confronted and congratulated me. It wasn't awkward for me tho, more for them.

  • I keep the two lives totally separate. It means I can talk about 3D life online and not feel like I need to deal with politics. The internet lets me be me without as many strings.

  • I laughed at the end, because you said "maybe somebody else knows what I'm talking about"...It's a common thing. It's also common for friends and family to be really turned off of and biased against the internet because they feel in a way superior in their realness, as though we're not real. All they think the internet is is loling and trolling (they don't know what either of those mean, they just think it's full of scary or perverted people. Mention "chatroom" and they think of terrible things.

  • They're so sure in their ignorance that they're not worth explaining to. I don't attempt to prove to the obtuse and ignorant what they're missing. If they give me attitude, they get nothing and I simply see less of them as I share myself with people I talk to online. Real people.

  • End parentheses I guess...)
