Heh. I remember when I first bought this game. I went to walmart to buy some game that I really wanted, but when the customer said they didn't have it, I was really sad. So then I bought Xenosaga. I thought it was boring because it didn't have any action battle system in it, but then....I was like "Hey, this game is fun!" I literally played all night. And then, I finally knew, that Xenosaga 3 was the most awesome game of all time. I don't care what ANYBODY says, Xenosaga 3 is the best!!!!!!!!!

@Beremor The subtitles from the entire series are a reference to Nietzche's trilogy : "Der Wille zur Macht", "Jenseits von Gut unt Bose" and "Also sprach Zarathustra". I think it served a main inspirational role for the game... Yeah, you know a game is good when you had to read literature to understand half of what was going on :/ and had a ginourmous datalog explaining Wells' Aliens :/.

I wish i went back into time and played the series again for the first time. I remember how excited I was while playing it and wondering what was going to happen next and how I was to strategize on making it to the next area. Most EPIC game ever played on ANY console. PERIOD.

i want to play through these games, but is 2 any good. I started 1 and i liked it, but im hearing alot of people say 2 isnt that great while 3 is good. Should I skip 2 and just goto 3 after 1? or should i play it. I can get the story thats in 2 by reading it online if thats the case. And if 2 is worse, is it like wayyy worse or just not as good lol.

@gmrpg2 If Episode II was a standalone release (like, if it wasn't tied to Xenosaga), it would have been a mediocre RPG.

However, since it's looked down upon more for being a part of the series because 1 and 3 are so good. Common problems include the battle system making battles long, bad voice acting, the graphics, and the smaller plot.

It's still worth going through once to get the story, though.

I can't deny that it was my favorite, but the story was so rushed...Had they had money for a fourth, it would've been a lot better because the story could be a bit more in depth. Though they did the 3rd game extremely well for having so much story and detail and so little time to really develop it.

I never played Xenogears, but I felt really lost at the end of the Xenosaga series. Like "What should I do now?" sad.

It's supposed to be distantly linked I believe. The Xenosaga series takes place before xenogears does. Sort of an alternate universe take on the same story.

For example, remember the very beginning of gears when the ship crashes into the planet. I believe it was being attacked by the Gnosis(saga).

The games aren't absolutely related, but I know Xenogears was number 4 in what was supposed to be a series. Then saga had episodes 1-3. It's the best we'll ever get to a series supporting Xenogears.

Yes, Saga2 was the weakest of the series. I'm working my way through it so that I can fully enjoy 3. It's not awful by any means, but I feel it was just bad enough to drive away fans. I think Saga2 is was killed the chance for them to complete the series the was they wanted to.

I have hope for the future of video games... we are complaining now but if you want to work on video games later, you can do something and change the way the things are (however the good games aren't just from the PS1/SNES generation... the PS2 and the new consoles has good or/and creative games as well... things aren't that bad, video games and their music becomes more appreciated now as well... think of it, video games exist since about 1970, cinema is older and had his evolution too).

All those years I had been waiting for an explanation of everything that had been going on in Ep 1 + 2...hoping for one flashback after another, just like in Xenogears. but then they go and change who's in charge of the scenarios and all we get in ep 3 is way too much mainstream focus on the whole love affairs... whereas the real answers to the story were mainly just scrambled into the database :/

Oh, I'll tell you why quality has stopped showing up: Casual gamers. The game industry introduced casual gamers into the gaming culture. What happened when they did that? I'll tell you.

We, the real gamers knew that whatever the companies did, if they half-assed the storyline and did a horrible job on the soundtrack, the game would be a waste of time. That's not to say that the actual gameplay and game mechanics weren't important. But the story and the music is the heart of the game.

We, who actually take it seriously as if it were any great masterpiece written from Tolkien, Salvatore or any other mentionable author, have been pushed aside to make room for the casual gamer, which brings more money (theoretically) to the industry.
