  • ya oil is a slow cool compared to water, thats why its preferred in some tools, it prevents warping. but i have heard of olive oil being used, also lard or duck grease. even heard of having a few inches of oil on top of water.

  • japanese swordsmiths use what ceramic artisans call slip, its a thinned out mixture of clay and water and they use a piece of bamboo or rataan or any nice wood like that and they put on a very thin layer, like 1/16th.. watch the weaponmasters episode where chad went to japan and met the last of a line of Master Swordsmiths. cant remember his name but Id love to meet him

  • thats alot of oil to do just one blade

  • what kind of clay do you use and where can I get it? I've been doing it all wrong for years!

  • @7689568 You've probably been doing it fine, to be honest, this guy doesn't seem to really know what he's talking about. DO NOT use olive oil to harden your blades, I've got no idea what he's talking about when he says its a quicker cool. I'm a blacksmith, this guy is clearly not. Motor oil is used because it is made for cooling and lubricating metal. olive oil is made to store olives. You can get just as good a temper line by doing other things to temper without wasting oil.

  • It seems like you started in the middle of the process. Did I miss a vid?

  • @ScottySWooHoo

what you missed is he ripped this video from paladin press.

  • @reaper34 what you missed is paladin press ripped from the original maker. those guys are snakes.
