about "the new lotus " rules, in fact, on the lotus 88, there was 2 body, 1 for the engine support and the second for the cokpit and wings. And the suspension was between those two body car. In the same time, Williams test also the FW 07E with 6 wheels....
Such a cool video. The putting the suspension on the seat part is funny, but I think the best part is at the beginning when the crew is actually taking tools to the car to work on it instead of a laptop.
for another great F1 innovation (that was so good it was banned) search for 'williams FW15C CVT' you'll also notice a young David Coulthard as 'test pilot'
@Michaelingolfhansen yeah i know. kinda unlucky for him, because he had a passanger in the car (i think it was some journalist friend) and he got away with it without almost anything. but frank was still calm when he came to. gotta love him.
@tohtorigyro It was Peter Windsor, partner in the infamous USF1 team that failed to make the grid this year. Frank was pushing the car hard and crashed. Sad really.
I wonder how well a suspension-less car would work with Renault's mass-damper from 2006...

Haha they just pick up an f1 car!! That would get you fired nowadays
Catchaontheflipsyde 4 months ago
@Catchaontheflipsyde They pick them up by hand these days when they break a front wing during a race. Some old school methods still work best!

is it me or were the turbo 4-cylinders better than today's v8's?
66606cl66 4 months ago

the car behaves like a gokart. must be challenging for the driver from physical point of view.
MeBest777 11 months ago
Williams nearly invented the Lotus 88 there if they had taken the idea of putting suspension in the seat a bit further.
FlyBoyGrounded 11 months ago
Active suspensions fixed the ride height control issue. Sadly it got banned as well. F1 sucks these days, no passing, no relevance and no innovation.

Yes funny, sub. 'Ern' for Alan, could be a 1 liner from the Eric Morecombe joke book.

I hope Williams gets it right soon, so he can live to see his team take one more Championship!
