@seerymseery My favourite album is The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society, got lots of great songs on it. Or you could pick up a "best of" from amazon, only about £4.
Live in the south(USA) ..had this album.. no one knew who these guys were back then..I peeled this song off to my high school friends ..they loved it..still have this LP..thanks for posting !!
' Sounds like a Great punk / hard song from 1978 or maybe 1982 ( 92 ??) ,.... the Kinks are so ahead of their time ( and ahead of other bands) ,...its crazy weird man !! "No time to Catch your breath !!" ........
one of my favorite songs by one of one of the best bands in the 60 and 70s so underrated it not even funny the beatles are the best but they overshadowed alot of dope band like this one the kinks kick to much ass and thats a fact!!!! oh yeah one of the best albums of the decade.
one of my favorite songs by one of one of the best bands in the 60 and 70s so underrated it not even funny the beatles are the best but they overshadowed alot of dope band like this one the kinks kick to much ass and thats a fact!!!!
Another freakin' awesome kinks effort that should be in a movie. These guys can do no wrong. Dave especially. Gotta love how he does it all on this song - power chords, solos, arpeggiates. Oh yeah, and sings. Kinks forever!
this is one of their most consistent (and inexplicably underrated) albums - every cut is cool and some of them -- like this one -- are great. love love love the kinks!
I agree with what everyone says here. I am discovering Kinks VERY late. But "Village Green" is now my other favorite album of all time (along with Sgt Pepper). This album ALSO have some gems. But I listened to stuff after 1970 and this is clearly the end of their glory period. But all "glory" periods ONLY last 5 years. Its the same for EVERYBODY. Ex: Beatles 1964-1969, Kinks 1965 - 1970, Elton John 1970-1975, Billy Joel 1974-1979, Stevie Wonder 1970 - 1975...... NO exceptions!
I agree with you on some of that, but their glory period was from 1968 - 1977.
Listen to songs like 20th century man (1971) Education (1976) Juke Box Music (1977) Everybody's a star (1974), and so on. Albums like Schoolboy's in disgrace, soap opera, and Everybody's in show business are all great
I think Face to Face til Arthur are great. SE is masterpiece. And all the singles too!!! But Muswell Hillbillies on is amazing feckin' stuff that no one else could or would do and all it feels so personal, so tight lyrically to me. Soap Opera is so great. Low Budget and GTPWTW are ridiculous, esp on the new SACDs out there. I even got Preservation 2 a few weeks ago which is damned fine after a few listens. I don't know what to say other than the 70's were great for the Kinks.
Back in the early days of the British Invasion the Kinks had visa problems and as such were unable to visit or tour the US during the peak of the invasion. By the time they got it straightened out the initial momentum had subsided and due to that fact the group never really got the attention or the fame that they deserved and should have gotten. The true fans know their importance and the rich quality and importance of their body of work. This was and is a terrific album.
I think people in the know, know just how good the Kinks were, and alot of bands have mentioned them as inspiration: groups like Oasis, The Clash, The Ramones, to name a few. And with a groove like this song makes, its not surprising.
Rats, This Time Tomorrow, Top Of The Pops, Powerman, A Long Way From Home. Lola was just a small part of this band here. Sometimes it makes me sad thinking how awesome they were and SOOOO consistently forgotten when all the "great bands" are mentioned. From their inception until "Give The People What They Want" I only disliked Soap Opera.
More than fu**ing good! The best song of the ancient kinks, my favorite sing song. I love the kinks since childhood-times, they are fantastic & fabolous&famous.
@paddyo702 you are extremly right... don´t forget the drummer! A rockband without a drummer is no rockband. Ringo was great--the kinks-drummer was better. I love their songs since childhood-times.
Hold a lady's small compact type mirror up to the the pic on the album cover - the left 1/2 = Charlie Manson. Yeah. Had a lot of time on my hands in 1970.
I'm very proud of myself that I made the effort to learn somethings about music in my teens (20 years ago now). I went out and bought about 8 albums by the Kinks, and this was one of them. This track stuck out as being really memorable. None of my mates were into this stuff, but I knew it was worth knowing about. Why don't people talk about the Beatles and the Kinks? What was so good about the stones that put them on a level above this???
Where I come from, The Beatles are discussed a lot, but The Kinks are only known to those who choose to dig below the surface. I haven't understood the appeal of The Stones for a long time, but recently I've heard some great stuff by them, non-radio songs.
@dunkiep The Beatles and the Kinks were amazing. The Stones still are; plus, Exile on Main St., Beggar's Banquet and Let It Bleed. If you listen carefully to those albums I do believe that you would be hard-pressed to find anything by the Kinks (other than this one album) or the Beatles (other than the White Album or Abbey Road) that even comes close in comparison.
This is my own personal opinion as a Stones fanatic though.
@pchiare The Stones last really great album was "Exile"...the Kinks continued in the '70s with masterpiece albums like "Muswell Hillbillies", "Preservation 1&2", "Soap Opera", "Sleepwalker" and "Low Budget"...
@pchiare could you tell me your favourite kinks album? I have just started to get into them, and not sure which one is a real good one to start with. thanks
@seerymseery Village Green is my favorite kinks album...but you might need to be a real big Kinks fan to get into it. you should prob buy a greatest hits album first...or just listen to them all on youtube. My favorite song are(in no particular order) Animal Farm, Strangers, Waterloo Sunset, Big Sky, Celluloid Heroes, I'm not Like Everybody Else......there are too many to name. they never really made any bad songs.
the kinks are so underated and only known for a few pop songs but its the other songs on the album that really make them one of best bands if your into that kind of kinky thing
anyone any advice on which is their best album? a good one to start off with? thank you
