actually the "bird" originated from mid-evil times when captured archers would be tortured, their middle finger was cut off (the middle finger was used to pull back the bow string). so the middle finger became a "taunt" within ranks where when the "enimes" rode by on their horses the would stick up their middle finger at the person. this gesture soon was adapted into more of a civilian setting.

A Chihuahua at my moms work was outside on the break deck and a Hawk came in grabbed it by the head and then dropped it back on the deck. Also when i was a little kid, i also got attacked by a goose, actually it was a flock of geese and i was at a pond in the park. they had us trapped on a bench surrounded by them. The bird originated from some big war when bows and arrows where the main weapons, and one side would chop off the middle fingers of the other sides so that they could no longer shoot there bow. then, the cutting side would show the other side thie rmiddle fingers to taunt them.
