anyone can get away with anything in the name of art....wearing ladies clothes with a strap-on cock is not my idea of art....its more like a wierd drug induced homosexual raver, late home from a big night out on the gear.....sorry!
Who am I and what am I to do with myself? How did I end up here? Why is this happening to me? Where is here? Nothing makes sense. These sensations that make up what is it called life. What do they mean? None of this makes any sense at all. Confusion and sexuality and frustration and destruction. Creation and what follows. The ever present self. Stuck in situation after situation and yet nothing. Yet so nothing. A blur, a blank, a dance, a struggle. Statements meaningless statements
here's my issue with this...it is too conceptual. its obvious that this guy has dance training...look at his body. but where are the steps? no, do i think you should just run around and jump, turn, and kick, not by any stretch...i am all for conveying a message. but this is lacking a core. over-thought and over-conceptualized. (is that a word?)
You just described the heart of butoh, except that it is hardly conceptualized at all. The ONLY concept to butoh is that there are no forms. The art was developed at a time when young Japanese were lashing out against formalities and social order. Therefore, butoh is about casting aside any familiar forms that can be considered steps. All that is left is a dance of pure expression, though this can seem awkward feel very uncomfortable to both new dancers and the audience.
i don't know if you were suggesting that i am a new dancer, but that's not the case. and i agree that there is validity to this, conceptually. and to me, there is a concept because clearly it is about something. there HAS to be reason behind the giant golden erection. therefore having concept. however, my issue is that in the dance world there is too much concept void of technical dancing, and too much technical dancing void of concept. i would love to see this video fused with great steps
spot on... it's even questionable whether butoh should be classified as 'dance' since it just leads to faulty analogues and other misunderstandings like this one...
Me encantaron los movimientos corporales porque van de sutiles a agresivos. Su cuerpo completo es una expresion que manifiesta el arte... Aplausos para el artista!
Hijikata's "Rebellion of the Flesh"... but there's also a lot of Ohno influence. I'm a big fan of Imre's, despite my lack of actual experience at dancing.

Normally I have a hard time explaining what I'm watching when someone stumbles upon me watching Butoh dancing on youtube.
However, the golden penis just exacerbates the problem.

That would be fine, but it would not be butoh.

it's, you know, nature expressing itself.
