President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.
I agree that they could have waited. On the other hand, giving him the prize gives him a bit of extra clout in certain situations - AND it also puts more pressure on him to live up to the prize.

Think about it this way: In 50 years, nobody will remember whether Obama's peace prize was loved or hated, they'll just know that it was there, and it will just be one mroe accomplishment for race relations.

he just reaffirmed all of Bush's nasty "Patriot Act" after a campaign promise to do away with it. He refuses to prosecute the telecoms who violated our constitution by spying on all americans. He hasn't closed the torture prisons as promised. He's actively obstructing our federal courts from obtaining the evidence of crimes commited by the previous administration to prevent their prosecution under federal law. He's kept troops in Iraq against his pre-election promise.. the list doesn't end.
