Gem of a record, first heard at Torch and Mecca, then Wigan. Jimmy Lees, love of my life met him at Blackpool Mecca in 1972, he had this record. Many happy times.

this was a massive tune at Samanthas Sheff, i used 2 sneak out on the last bus 2 town and beg steal and borrow 2 make it there still keepin the faith as a soul dj all on vinyl of course :-)
to: "Im 14 just buyed"......well done.....keep investigating....check out Elgins(Heaven), Chairman of the Board(Time), Four Tops(Stone), O Jays(Train), Donnie Elbert, Martha & Vandellas etcetc....probably more common artists...but Elgins is my fave!
the term northern soul is misunderstood. Its just mowtown in a secondhand environment of the time. Soul music can only be attributed to its origins, as that is where it was made. Northern soul is just a tag of an era of a place that had nothing to offer at the time, but kept the belief from a dream.
@joker22munzo It comes from the fact that this type of music was being played in the clubs of northern england in the early 60's
Dave Godding then of Blues and Soul Magazine visited some of these clubs which were playing a different type of soul to the rest of the country and he coined the phrase "Northern Soul "
this record was my introduction to Northern Soul at school discos back in the early 70's in Woverhampton....now in Oz and part of the NS scene here......how time passes and our lives change.
I've not heard this for so many years. I've numerous records CD tracks but not this, its so evocative of the soul, the beauty of everything that was Wigan, Nottingham a slightly heighten view of life, escapism. god how I miss it and yet so pleased I was a very small part of it. Thanks for the posting

Really takes me back to the Northern scene in the seventies - leeds central, Wigan casino, Blackpool mecca, Scarbrough (Four seasons - anyone remember it? It was the Easter haunt of the northern lot) But Leeds central soul club was the BEST!!!! great dance floor, fantastic folk and I met my first husband there - Twink (Ian).
@paul99227 hey yes so glad to remember the Central and I do remember the Easter run to Scarbrough. What beautiful, carefree heady days they weer, and so friendly the crowd, no bitching or fighting. Northern soulers respected each other.
@tommoakler I remember this record so well. Did you live in Leeds? I used to live in Ripon and catch the train to Wigan with my friend Bev Allen at Leeds, we would buy a 5p platform ticket and jump trains, Thinking about it now makes me laugh. But it was worth it. I loved Ms. Did you know any of the York crowd?
its by an american group called the Poppies, headed by Dorothy Moore and Fern Kinney. Only released 4 singles and only became famous in UK and Australia! Great track though!
