Steadman is a great cartoonist but his writing is really rather awful as his preening liberalism. I think it is fair to say that the illustrations to F&L did contribute to the success of the original articles and ultimately to the book, and that without them HST might not have had the career acceleration he did.

Steadman is a joke, a parasite. Sure he created some steller artwork for Hunter, but it was never enough for this swine of a man. I met him once in NYC and had a few beers with the man. He thinks there would be no Thompson if not for his work. Thompson grew tired of this lecherous troll stalking him well into the late 80's. Now he actually tries to imitate Thompson during yet another book signing. Give it up Ralph...
