I'm sure they are fine guitarrists, but comparing what the guitar does on this song to what Lindsey Buckinham does on the "The Chain" concert on the same song is a little embarrassing for these guys...
Christine had not come into the band, with here the band were worse and worse. Fleetwood-Mac with Peter Green (Albetros, Need you love so bad, etc.), rulez!!!
I listened to this song in my car the other day driving. 2-12" MTX subs, 2000 watts amp, and some nice tweaters. Was an awesome experience for a short excurison conveying miscellous items that was dingy.
I cant belive I wasnt there, oh, thats because my mom was only 16, and I wanst quite born yet. :P. This one is a little new for me though. Im into the older stuff pre 76.
i was in the Nags Head (Decimomannu) Sardinia with 9 Sqn when this was out, and it was never off the jukebox. The armourers worked out you could fire the cork from a bottle of nasti asti effectively 15 times and still annoy the fairies.
I love the extra twist Stevie does in this song. Does anyone know if there is an actual recorded version of this song with the extra twist? This song is lovely.
@katewoods17 No, there isn't. I think this "twist" had its genesis in the Stevie-less studio version of Everywhere from Tango in the Night. Stevie was barely present on Tango. She was in rehab and pissing around with Tom Petty in Australia while the other 4 were making the record. She eventually did about one weeks' work (3 songs, backing vocals on 2 others). Stevie was "mad" she didn't sing on Everywhere. Chris said she wanted her to but she wasn't around. They added this "twist" to passify SN.
@MrDunkJunk It's all about Stevie to Stevie. Too bad. Her narcissism is legendary...including having herselfi airbrushed in post production of this very video!!
@marc80s Yeah, that was embarrassing. In some of the "re-touched" clips, Nicks might have well been in a different outfit, with" black-face and purple hair" it was so bad consistency-wise. She is conveniently staring right at the camera, hair "conveniently" blown out and laquered in place by 8 gallons of hairspray. Stevie did the same thing (though worse) the prior year for Red Rocks video, which is hilarious. What did the others think of this post-production vanity and self-centered egotism?
@marc80s Well, they broke up 3-4 years later. Stevie left FM in late '90 (after recording Behind the Mask with FM's new lineup & a world tour); Rick Vito quit in '91. Nobody in FM ever even mentioned it, as if it were either expected or just normal for one of six members to have a GROUP video retouched to make that ONE member look better. It is telling that this nonsense never occured again, not with The Dance or Live in Boston (with Stevie IMO looking better than she ever did in late '80s).
@MrDunkJunk I actually thought the rhythm guitar was great in this. The thing I didn't like was Stevie's vocals. She's a great singer most of the time but her voice just sounds grating & out of tune here. Would've been better if she had let Christine's handle the vocals entirely.
can anybody tell me the name of the song. it is about a women who picks up a guy to get preg because her husband could not do it. I think it was Stevie Nicks
the song is empty without a real guitar player, I can barely even notice there is anyone playing guitar except McVie! And that's having 2 replacements? Wow...
Tango in the Night was a decent record, but it just seemed to pale to their earlier, more blues based records. Except "Big Love" was awesome, again because Lindsay's genius.
They never fully recovered after this record, especially with Nicks and Buckingham departing. They came back at points, but Buckingham was the driving force when he joined. They should have just let him keep driving the bus and hopped on.
@SuperDrJeckyl I agree that none of the others in FM had LB's overall musical vision (not to mention that LB is one of the most unheralded guitarists in rock music). Still, both Chris and Stevie had success without LB, and some of what LB was pushing in FM (a fractured sound with his songs serving as solo performances within FM) was not a good sign for that (or any) band. Only on Stevie's songs were all 5 members usually involved. Most of Chris's songs had this too, but very few of LBs ('79 on).
@SuperDrJeckyl Wasn't the "backlash" album Mirage? I think after Tusk "tanked" (only in comparison to Rumours), Mick, John, Stevie & Chris, plus their label, rightly put the blame on LB for Tusk. Mirage was to be the return to a more accessable sound and the top of the charts (which it did). I still prefer Tusk to Mirage, and Tango to either. Mirage was a collection of 3 songwriters songs (with only Nicks' songs having a group sound), expanding off the LB "solo" LPs Tusk (featuring CM & SN!!).
Stevie Nicks was awesome.... bands like the Fleetwood Mac were REAL....not the fake radio-friendly crap we get today... real musicians rooted in blues... great singers singing great melodies, great songs played by great bands... anyone noticed that no bands sings GREAT rock melodies anymore??? ...the only exception I can think of is of course "Foreverland" by Belladonna, and no wonder they got nominated for a Grammy with it... any other bands you can suggest?...
Im writing from Eastern Europe. Is there any chance Fletwood Mac or Stevie Nicks touring somewhere here? I aint sayin here are too many fans, but it wouldbe a dream of mine, if i could see them. So do they tour? thx
@ehors123 Well..You can see her smoking cigs in this video ONSTAGE. Her voice stiil shot. Low draggy desperate vocals. Weight gain. She was a mess...The she stayed on Klonopin for eight years and wrote a bunch of shit music ALA Street Angel..AHHH GOOD TIMES!!
@audreydorado I don´t think there will be some tour next year. Stevie and Lindsey are going to release new solo albums... and Christine retired from touring in 1998
A classic with class. I always loved Christine's songs, especially those that didn't require her to play her signature keyboards. Because then she was able come up front and actually be seen by her fans. I really miss her not singing with the group anymore. She wrote some of their biggest hits, including this one, and nobody can perform them like she did.
I really want them all to get together again... I wish I was like... Thirty years older. The I could go to these kind of concerts. All I got is Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
@mars1pan I'm only 23 and i went to a Human League revival concert a couple years ago. Was the youngest guy there by a couple decades together with my friend. Best. Gig. Ever. :D
I think Stevie might have been jealous that "Tell me Lies" and "Everywhere" were huger hits over "Gypsy" so she felt that she should make it known that she was stil part of the band by breaking in early with her line.. HAHA.. Is she a Leo?
@KaguraThWindGypsy to answer your question.. (don't know which part of my post your are referring to) but I am a Leo and love being the center of attention all the time.. If I were to put myself in Stevie's place I would try to do anything to steal a little shine or at least make myself known in the performance.. coming in Early would be a way of doing that.. and adding a few bars also...
@stylestar07 Well even so, it could always be that she thought it sounded nice that way. Not necessarily that she only did it 'cus she's jealous. I actually think it sounds nice.
This song makes me feel great everytime I hear it.
I know I probably allready have but I want to keep this song under my sleeve and bring it out when I need it most... like a secret weapon that makes me happy when i'm sad.
Totally disagree with those of you saying Stevie is doing anything but adding to this live version. Sounds amazing and Stevies part is a refreshing change.
I've always loved Christine...she rules! Loved the lighting on the Tango In The NIght tour too...and mr. superstition running about backstage making sure the flight cases are latched...classic!
It's fun listening to the experimentation during the Bob Welch years, which gave rise to Christine's voice. Her skill was marginal at best, but the voice was there. There were a few songs from that era, that I thought... almost expected (in hindsight) that she should have sung instead of Bob. Her keyboard playing was so signature, that it was awkward to hear a guy singing it.
If not for that little Progressive streak, this may never have been.
@NJPlayer79 Right when Fleetwood Mac was done recording Tango in the Night, Lindsey backed out of the tour due to obvious issues involving himself and the band. He ended up leaving the band all together after a physical dispute between him and Stevie. Mick, along with the rest of the band, couldn't cancel a whole tour, therefore Mick hired Rick Vito (brown hair) and Billy Burnette (black hair) two days after Lindsey's departure, and the two took his place from 1987 to 1993 i believe.

@kbryant830 I think it's a really pretty song with Christine's voice.
But, I agree with you. I remember this record, and it was the group's backlash against Lindsay Buckingham's production of Tusk.
Lindsay is a risk taker and expirements, so the band blasted him for producing Tusk. The band and many people wanted Rumors 3.
That's why I'm a huge fan of Lindsay's. He's an artist and about the music, plus I love Brian Wilson and that's his idol, too.
Tango was decent, but not great.

Totally disagree with those of you saying Stevie is doing anything but adding to this live version. Sounds amazing and Stevies part is a refreshing change.

me too, :) I'm quite depressed as I realise that I (just fourteen years old now ^^) have never experienced the 60's 70's and 80's :(

@cinapek that "freaky drummer" is mick fleetwood himself. The man who founded fleetwood mac. respect!

@dahoss65 nevermind. peter green founded fleetwood mac, but the band is named after mick fleetwood and john mcvie.

I've always loved his wide-eyed look and his personna. I was in the front row in Seattle and he was having fun with us and his wide-eyed expression..

Does anybody know where Lindsay was here?
NJPlayer79 1 year ago
@NJPlayer79 Right when Fleetwood Mac was done recording Tango in the Night, Lindsey backed out of the tour due to obvious issues involving himself and the band. He ended up leaving the band all together after a physical dispute between him and Stevie. Mick, along with the rest of the band, couldn't cancel a whole tour, therefore Mick hired Rick Vito (brown hair) and Billy Burnette (black hair) two days after Lindsey's departure, and the two took his place from 1987 to 1993 i believe.
