I'm just watching the documentary on music videos diring the '80s. This song and the video is made after Geldoff being inspired by the school shooting in USA by a girl. He says that the most people still understand the song as it is about hangovers or hating Mondays because of work, etc. The band and the director were very determined to do something different from the punk and the main-stream. The same director did for Bowie "Ashes to ashes", "Let's Dance" & more. He is David Malett.

It's about the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children playing in a school playground.She killed two adults and injured eight children and one police officer. She showed no remorse for her crime, and when she was asked why she said "I don't like Mondays; this livens up the day." It's sad because she showed no remorse and because people died for basically no reason, but there is the dark humour element in there as well.
