I am a huge fan of Astrud Gilberto's voice and talent and have been for twenty years. In my collection are several Brazilian solo LPs, two domestically-issued "collection" CDs, and all the S. Getz works. So I was surprised to find this cover today as I have never heard it. But I have to agree with the numerous dissenters: the rendition is not good. Despite the nice Palmieri-esque horns and the sexy crooning of the verses, the chorus is horrible and unforgivable! This version is lackluster.

I wrote only to you because of the way you expressed your comments. Astrud's version is one of the best in my opinion and this is my favorite Doors song. Latin musicians made many spectacular versions of pop-rock songs, they are not commercial tricks.

Ok, i am deaf and i love this and similar versions of rock songs. These are better than "original latin music" and many times than "original rock music". Blame the constantly high and distorted volume of heavy tunes i usually prefer. Thank God we are not the same. No worries.
