  • That is a quite awesome skip on 2m!

  • Espectacular openin 73s

  • @xe3iss Heard you twice here in EM29 but could not complete the call. Wish we could of completed. I have your video clips that I will post by weekend with a few others that did not make the first video. Great to hear you across the Gulf of Mexico.

  • Why is the K-3 QUITE A BIT off frequency with EVERY station & MUCH closer on the ICOM? LOTS of WHITE NOISE as well on the K-3.NOT what I "EXPECTED" from all of the raves about how QUIET it is? Hard to listen to in my opinion.I had a GREAT time with the opening myself.

  • @1OFGODSOWN I have addressed the off alignment of the txverter with Elecraft. Minor issue which I intend to correct come weekend. Was not running internal pre-amp unit. Running German made mast mounted preamp which are very hot. Normally turn the RF gain up on the rig to about S-9 to increase signal-to-noise ratio. No it won't be quiet running a hot preamp with the RF gain opened up. Very quiet without LNA. Didn't help that day either with almost 100 degree day here and the power lines popping.

  • @jdizzy47 OK on the alignment issue.I have NEVER operated a K-3 or considered one since I'm a BIG fan of the fan of a REAL TIME bandscope like in my ICOM 756 PROII but live without one on my ICOM 746 PRO on 2 meters.Good DX & 73

  • @1OFGODSOWN Elecraft called me back tonight. There is an internal transverter offset in the menu. The radio was suppose to be factory set with a signal generator. I have it on frequency now with the frequency readout. Neat feature just did not read that deep in the manual. Thanks for making me investigate further.

  • KO4MA uses an ancient 10 element Cushcraft yagi and mast mounted SSB Electronics pre-amp at a whopping 25 feet, or about 34 ffet above sea level.

  • What antenna were you using for these contacts? Were you barefoot or did you have an amp behind the K3?

  • @pebbledude I run 4 x M2 M12s on an H-Frame at 70 feet. In other words 12 Elements x 4 = 48 Elements total. Was running my smaller THP 30Vdx at 250 wats. Normally I run 550 watts using a THP HL-500V. Had a smaller driver amp that arrived the same day as K3 to drive the larger amps since the internal 144 xverter is only 10 watts out. THis "New" amp went into oscillation drawing amps instead of milliamps and had to go get built right. Hope that helps. JD

  • like the k3 look's like it's working good on vhf what is the output on vhf

  • @radiobigman47 10 watts with the internal 144 transverter

  • JD, Heard you here in EM60qk at 00:37z. You were 5X9 briefly. 749 miles. Had WY,NE,CO,SD,MN,WI,IL this end. I also video recorded some of the Es under "Super E skip 6-18-10" What video edit program do you use?

  • @RLZerr I need EM60 dang.... Going to watch ur video. I use "Magix" Video Edit Pro Version 9 I think. Small learning curve. Just take a small sample videoand play around with all the features once you get the hang of it , flow goes quick. depends on what I do, the process takes me about 2 hours to cut up and about 25 minutes at HD to produce on Quad Core AMD machine. Has bult in upload to YouTube also, adjusts video auto for their format requirements.

  • @jdizzy47 Thanks, I used to use the free Windows Movie Maker to toy around with video but when upgraded to Windows 7 found WMM was stripped down to nearly worthless program. So went shopping and ended up with a program Video Show Expressions not much better. Looking for something to make good videos that's easy to use and maybe similar to WMM in format.

  • Nice, this happened in the Pacific northwest recently giving us western Kansas and also parts of New Mexico. I could not get in on this as I don't have 2 meter SSB capabilities and just FM but it made for fun listening. The NOAA weather radio band opened up too during the peak of this with a real battle on 162.550 between a few stations.

  • @bratina501 Outstanding how folks use different tools to tell when something big is about to happen. Good use of NOAA when tornadoes are not falling from the skys. Battle of the weather stations... love it! Congrats on ur States. 73 JD/N0IRS

  • @jdizzy47 The way I see it, why not those weather radio stations are always transmitting (or at least most of the time are) so they make good beacons. Similar to how some of the 6 meter ops used to use full power analog TV.

  • Great opening. Shame I missed it. 72.

  • @kb9wzj I know Darin. You would of been working it hard too.. I know. JD/N0IRS

  • wow is all I can say !!!

    73 Terry

  • @ve3tmg It was a rush... that's all I can say terry.
