  • Gerry Girard was the best NY News Sportscaster!

  • Also, at 1:25 - 1:34 and again at 5:53 - 5:56, is Christy Ferer.

  • Action News was always my favorite, I watched all the time growing up in the Bronx as a teen....And to see this now is awesome.... Priceless...And i loved the way you Edited it...And mixing in the classic movies.. Great job...Much Thanks BIGBLUEPLANET .

  • Anyone know the name of the reporter at 04:18?

I think he was the sports reporter.

  • @ravi48819 ......Jerry Girard

  • I liked Pat Harper much more than the other women anchors in NYC.

  • @Lockemeister - She was certainly better than much of the women anchors in NYC today (I'm thinking of the current occupant of the "PIX 11" anchor desk, Jodi Applegate, who like most "news chicks" these days seems to come across as skanky by comparison).

  • lol he called the lady a fucking cunt lol

  • She certainly was a great anchor!

  • What is the name of the comedian on here with the mustache? I think he's the same guy that used to come on talk shows and throw confetti at the end of his punch lines.

  • Rip Taylor

  • Thanks!

  • @bigblueplanet

    who else?

  • Today, Dead Men, (and Dead Women), DO watch the news! (With all the bad stuff arund in 2009, we've all become zombies, as you'll no doubt agree!).

Taday, N Nov, 2009, that poor guy is, I think, STILL reporting on t Republican convention! (S he t ghost -reporter-- of a living OR dead person), who seems 2 show up at efrt Republican Convention since? Or s that ghost just some poor Democrat or Libertarian, trying 2 retain the liberty of t Constitution? Do u give him a ghost of a chance?

  • i did, any you WOULDN'T !!!! IT WAS A NUTHOUSE!!!

  • I would have enjoyed working at WPIX in 1984.

  • I didn't know Doug Lwellyn was on WPIX

  • Is that Ian Hunter at :34? - I worked with him once at CNBC on a story about the Hamburger industry... He couldn't wait to create the term "Big Meat" (like 'Big Oil') to describe them....If that IS him - it figures he'd be caught pissing in the woods.

  • Dig the crazy jacket Jeff Lyons was wearing at the 9:39 mark. I'm double crosseyed because judging from the set design behind him, that clip was from at least 1984...not a trendy sportcoat for that era. I'd like to see him wear that getup on the Channel 4 set one day.

  • Does anyone know how I can get the full unedited INN news theme at 0:56 and 1:15? I've tried to contact WPIX with no luck. Would ove the composer info too. Kick ass theme.

  • How come no one notices that he calls her an "f-ing cu*t" at 6:40?

  • @hardtruthsin08 Oh, I noticed.

  • This is almost like SCTV

  • more than you know!!!!

  • I AM SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT STEVE BOSH IS STILL ALIVE. WHEN I KNEW HIM, HE WAS DOWNING AT LEAST 15 CUP'S OF COFFEE A DAY AND SMOKING 2 PACK'S OF WINSTON'S A DAY! good for him!

  • That was fun to watch. I miss those anchors. They were great. Thanks for posting it!

  • Pat Harper was my mother. The best damn anchor in New York. She died of a sudden heart attack in our home in Spain.Joe Harper was my step dad,who died in 1983 and is buried in Maine, his favorite place in the world.Every anchor should aspires to be as good as the were.

  • Pat was a classy lady!! I allway's enjoyed her.

  • Oh my God, I watched your mom all the time, on TV, in Staten Island, NY! Your mom certainly was a great anchor. Those were the days, huh? Brings back some good memories of those years. We'll all be re-united with our loved ones, one day. It's true! Take care.

  • I remember them well. They were amazing and NY news was never the same without these pioneers.

  • I remember watching Pat Harper on TV during my childhood in NY during the 1970s. She was certainly a class act.

  • Pat Harper was an inspiration to all young women who grew up to be journalists. I remember her and your stepdad with respect..

  • @mchlharper She was good from the old school. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Hope Tribune left you something nice...

  • @mchlharper You are correct, Pat Harper was the best damn anchor in New York. A professional journalist all television newspersons should aspire too. You have every right to be proud. It's a shame she died so young.

  • @mchlharper I grew up watching your mom. She was a real pro. I am so sorry for your loss.

  • @mchlharper I always watched the Yankees on WPIX, and I always stay tuned in for the news after the game. Pat and Joe were excellent newscasters. I am sorry to hear your mother passed away. You should be very proud of her.

  • @mchlharper I remember when they co-anchored the news together on WPIX. They were awesome, growing up in NYC, it was my favorite news to watch. Your Mom was a class act, she is missed.

  • As a former New Yorker that grew up watching Pat Harper, Roger Grimsbe, Bill Beutel and the WPIX news Team........... THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE MEMORIES............ It seems so long ago.....and I feel so old. THANKS AND GOD BLESS!!

  • Unfortunately, Jerry Girard died a couple of years ago. He was a GREAT sport's anchor...!

  • Wow, I didn't know Jerry Girard died. He had a great sense of humor, too.

  • Pat Harper died of a heart attack. I had heard once that she was a heavy smoker, so cancer would have not been a surprise.

  • What happened to Jerry Girard? That's a blast from the past.

But sad to hear about Pat Harper.. I didn't know she died.

  • DAMN IT!!!!!!

  • I believe she died of cancer.

  • "would you buy a used car from that man"? lol

  • oh wow, didn't realize she past away. sorry to hear that.

  • paul, you think the past-tense of "pass" is "past"?

It's "passed". Thank you. Satan's Creamy Jizz has spoken.

  • great stuff, thanks. I had such a crush on Pat Harper back then. Wonder where she is tonight. I remember once they came back from commercial too soon and she got caught smoking on the air

  • paul353, I remember when she was caught smoking (A CIGAR)!! on the air. Pat died many years ago.

  • This was great! I miss Channel 11 the way it used to be!

  • PIX! PIX! PIX! Damn, I wish I could have played that game...

  • Hey JBliss was this the network prgram that started in the early 70's as Harper News. I think Pat's dad was the groundbreaker

  • @thedavisgroup - I know of only one example of Joe Harper's work on YT - from 'MSTS1', an audio-only clip from a weekend edition of Boston station WBZ Channel 4's "Eyewitness News" he'd anchored in 1970:

    watch?v=dhq1AiurLCE

In contrast to Pat whose years at both WPIX and WNBC have been comparatively well-represented.

  • The Independent Network News (INN) was a nationally-syndicated nightly news program, seen from June 1980 until June 1990, and produced by WPIX in New York City, designed mainly for independent stations.

  • I can't believe 1984 is 23 freakin years ago!!!

The 80's was my decade. Pat Harper died 13 years ago.

I feel so f'n old now!

  • Anyone recognize Donna Hanover at 2:30 in the clip?

  • OMG - Yes, that's her ? I never knew she worked in New York taht long ago.Cool.

  • LOOLL did anybody catch that?? At 6:38 when she was walkin away he called her a "Fucking Cunt" hahaha

  • Yep, he did say that! And Jerry Girard was a Yankee shill.

  • Does anyone know what happened to Greg McCampbell? His blooper is from 4:27-4:44. Also does anyone have footage of him doing actual reporting?

  • I lived in New York in the 80's, so I remember a bunch of these people. Oh, my goodness, that was some funny stuff. Especially the poor guy who can't hear his producer up above lol.

  • I lived in California in the 80s. I am originally from NY so I enjoyed seeing this- I LOVE that frustrated reporter whomever he is - LOL !

  • i love news bloopers! i work with my college's tv station and i've seen plenty of things along these lines.

  • I must say that the WPIX news team of Steve Bosh, the late Pat Harper, Bill Jorgensen and the late Jerry Girard were the best, bar none! The nice thing about the folks at Channel 11, they even kept their sense of humor.... even at their own expense. What a time, what a team!

  • I'm learning how to be a journalist myself, so sometimes I should expect the unexpected.

  • Anything can happen on live television!

  • For an older lady, Pat Harper was a very attractive. God rest her soul.

  • She was still beautiful well into her fifties. She must have been really something in her twenties!

Pat was able to be the most serious anchor you could think of (what a great authoritative voice that she had!) and then later on in the newscast be the biggest goofball. She was one of the best.

  • I remember onr time she told Jerry to shut up on the air. I saw it happen. I fell off my chair

  • Yeah, I can picture her doing that.

  • watch at 3:26, some poor lady catches an elbow....LOL

  • I love news bloopers. I could watch this stuff for hours.

  • BTW, I live in Michigan so of course we don't get WPIX but this was hilarious!

  • LMAO! "...And right here in beautiful downtown Miami while we're being blown the fuck away! Wind speed has just hit 130, the light is wiggling, and my toupee is gonna come off." Classic! :D

  • This is horrible!

Don't waiste your time on it!

  • "For "Independent News", Greg McCampbell, reporting.

Is it Independent News Network"? F#4k it!!! "Independent News"! F#$K IT!!! I did'nt wanna do it anyway, 'cause I'm gettin' paid for it!"

  • this is like the movie anchorman...4:47 is definatly a ron burgundy moment hahah

  • Live TV is awesome! I think just about every station has a 'blooper reel'. Mostly the underpaid and overworked crew collect funny video and put them together at some point. My high school journalism teacher worked at an ABC affiliate in El Paso, and she had a blooper reel that was hilarious. That one however had clips from all 3 news stations in town and was put together in a half hour format as if to air, but never really did.

  • There were 2 Harpers at WPIX during those days right??? I read that they are now both deceased. What did they die of if that's the case???

  • Pat was the ex of 1973-76 WPIX anchor Joe Harper. They co-anchored together from 1975 to '76. He had "predeceased" her, in 1983 at age 61. I.I.N.M., he died after a brief illness. As for Pat, she passed away in Spain from a heart attack.

  • This had to haven been shown at the Christmas party in 1984--LOL!

  • I like the guy just after 3:00... Surprised one of our guys hasn't done that yet.

  • That was too funny! I remember the Ch 11 team back then. R.I.P Pat Harper.

  • I like the blooper at 3:53, where the reporter rides in a flooded part of the street, falls off the bike and he then gets up and justs stands there....with those wet *dduheee* HIGH WATER pants--buaha haha!!

And I also like the reporters response at 4:47. Oh man! Thats what you get for standing in the middle of a crowd at a convention - A**hole!

  • Is this news team for real? What a joke...

  • Heh! Poor Marvin Scott!!

  • Marvin Scott was extremely likeable as a reporter. I'm glad that he had a long career in NY television.

  • Eleven, Eleven Aliiiiiiiive!

  • Wow, who was that who said the c--- word when the female gave him a one word response to the heat wave question?

  • I don't know, but that was great!

  • Besides she was definitely being one.

How about that gem at the 3:05 mark?

"And right here in beautiful downtown Miami where we're being blown the f--k awaaaaay..."

We used to get INN in the L.A. market on KCOP, didn't know WPIX was where it was sourced from (but hey, I was in my single digit years, didn't know much at all)

Lastly, this whole clip couldn't have been shown over the air over there, could it? Was this sold on video or something?

  • That reporter was a fucking creep.

  • He was one of the assignment editors at the time. Funny guy

  • RIP Pat Harper 1935-1994

  • How did Pat Harper die?
