  • hi, it is great tips. feel free to visit my channel for chicken coop tips.

  • Just read an Amazon review of The Chicken Book which stated that it's pro cockfighting. Did you find that to be true?

  • Hi, thanks for that question... the Chicken Book is a document which very accurately accounts for the chicken and it's place in cultures around the world. I suppose it would be nice to have an account of only the good life the chicken has had, but the book also describes the origins and nature of bird fighting... it's an account, not an endorsement. The Chicken Book is a non-judgmental look at the importance of the chicken throughout history. A history of Rome, would include gladiators.

  • I think the net is better. But thats my choice.

  • over 50% of the people in America still don't have internet at home. Just some food for thought... as you know, I'm a huge supporter of informing via the world wide web... {"> I still love books

  • Thanks for the reviews of these books. Think I'll head on over to Amazon and see if I can pick them up used. I too think "Storey's Guide To Raising Chickens" is an excellent reference for anyone considering raising backyard chickens.

  • Thanks for commenting Molly... glad you found some of the books of interest!

  • There is NOTHING wrong with this video at all! I didn't consider my time watching it to be wasted. Jeez... Thanks for the information.

  • Thanks! I'm glad you go something out of it.. much appreciated..

  • Well, they don't require electricity and you can take them anywhere and .... well, ya, you're right.. what was I thinking?!

    Just YouTube it!

  • I apologize for wasting your time venturedog...

  • thank you :)

  • you're welcome

  • The best book out there on chicken keeping is "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" by Gail Damerow (not to be confused with "Storey's Guide to Raising Poultry", a lesser book.) It covers all the basics in clear, easy to read and understand format. "Chickens in Your Backyard" was actually written by Gail along with then-husband, Rick Luttman, back in the '70's. The newer book is much better and more up-to-date, IMHO. A wonderful companion would be Ms. Damerow's "Chicken Health Handbook".

  • Thanks for sharing, the books you name are all good and Gail is well known in the farm book publication arena. In my "opinion" there is no "best book", that's highly subjective and each publication brings something possibly unique. This is why there are so many publications on the subject. Storey's Guide to Raising Poultry, is a great publication, for those who are considering other species of domestic fowl. Sort af a one stop shop. I'm glad you enjoy Gail's work.

  • The Encyclopedia of Chickens, is available again... do a search, you'll find it. I recommend the Hard Bound version... very good quality! Thanks to all of you who've written! Happy Hatching!

  • If you're thinking of raising your own chickens, maybe in your own backyard, then be informed. There is a 3 Hour DVD guide to raising free range poultry, it's called Regarding Chickens... get your own copy, you'll understand better, how to go about starting up and mantaining your own flock.
