  • video not recommended for argentinians

  • 5 persons got killed by an harrier.

  • Bad ass video

  • Best aircraft on the planet but did we keep it no sold it to the yanks and now we have stop making them

  • I like those better than the AV-8B's, with their funny long nose.

  • Seems that no plane is safe from David Cameron.

  • I love this plane. GR7. Best of British Engineering. Fly on!

  • 6:48 , 6:48,,,who is this band ? or what is the song called ?

  • The Kestrel is a much smaller bird of prey than the harrier. It is a falcon that relies on speed. It cannot fly very slowly useless it has a strong headwind. Strong winds found along coasts allow kestrels to hover and spot mice. Harriers have a much larger wing area and can fly slow with much less head wind. It hunts animals the size of rabbits.

As for the Planes - the Kestrel was merely and pre-production technology demonstrator, smaller and less sophisticated than Harriers.

  • nice video

  • at 5:04 till 5:20, the people on that boat must have been like "what is going on?!" since the harrier basically stopped.

  • uh wheres the landing???

  • I dont know what I would do if I were in a boat and some random harrier just came out of nowhere and hovered over me...

  • Vtol aircart was another nazi developement before the end of WW2..along with the first submersible submarine missle launched..Werner VonBran oversean the first underwater missle launch from a german submarine in the 1940's Baltic Sea..

  • HYDRA

  • Hi All I have looked far and wide on the net to see if the Harrier planes (the series) were named after the bird (a bird of prey) harrier, which can sort of hover or glide close to the grounds in flight. Does anyone know this exact piece of historical info. I am not able to obtain confirmation on this. Any help pointing to actual text (in book or net) would be appreciated. thanks!!!

    - A bird and plane (and superman) enthusiast.. haha

  • It's common sense the Harrier is named after the Bird, like many Fighter and attack aircraft that take their names from birds. The Osprey, The Raptor, and The Eagle for example are all named after Birds of Prey.

  • originally the Harrier was going to be a larger plane than now is. It was called the Kestrel after the larger sea bird that can hover over the clifffs in Britain. However the Kestrel got cancelled and and the P11 (which i think was the code no, for the Harrier, before it was officially developed and released for MoD approval. Harrier denoting the smaller bird that has the same flight characteristics as a Kestrel

  • This is a GOOD informative reply. thanks.

  • "It was called the Kestrel after the larger sea bird that can hover over the clifffs in Britain."

    Ummm, no.

Kestrels arent seabirds, they are smaller than harriers too, though they do hover, so you get 1 out of 3 for that.

  • @yurthammer Kestrel ARE seabirds, and that infomation that I posted was from a video series called Great Fighting Jets - AV8 B Harrier, find the video and listen

  • @Glenforbes60

Look mate, I live in the UK, I know what a kestrel is and what it isnt, I see them all the time.

I can guarantee that a kestrel is NOT a seabird, nor is it larger than a harrier.

Try looking it up on, for example, the RSPB site.

  • the harrier is a bird that lived in the scotish highlands and was hunted to near extinction, there is no link between the birds been able to hover like the aircraft.

  • i want one....

  • I think the first revolution of the history of flying was the plane.

the second was the new, aerodynamic wing.

the third was the first fully operational jet fighter by the nazis in the end of second world war.

the 4th was the Harrier by the british.

  • Dont you think that Frank Whittle might be in 3rd place for the Messerschmitt Me 262 to have even existed?

    Chicken / Egg?

  • what about helicopters?

    they are flyin machines

  • I only thought abaut planes.

but yes the helicopters were the only flying machines that can hover before the british created the harrier.

The helicopters are the best for rescuing somebody from the sea,or from the top of the mountain.

  • th s is british you tool

  • i want to see this thing at an air show

  • beautiful! *****

  • yeahh amazing video and the music !!!

  • if we were at war with Britain and i saw that flying towards me i'd shit myself

  • great vid mate

  • Awsome jet and a great vid

  • u have to be the best of the best to fly these they are so fukin complicated

  • wish goose never hit his head. shame what happened to him. mav will never be the same

  • rofl...

  • excellent video, thanks for posting this :-)

  • yo nice aircraft the vertical lift is awesome was the falkands war the only time it dogfight

  • That video of yours is the nuts...

  • oh man, thats good....what music did you use? Thanks

  • It's from the "Ace Combat X Skies of Deception" gamerip. The track is callled "Alect Squadron-Armada-Operation X (SP. Mission)".

The music at 6:48 is from the documentary itself.

  • A very good peice of filming! The in-cockpit footage was particularly well done in this piece! It really does get across the workload of a front line fast jet pilot, and a more than suitable tribute to the Harrier itself.

  • nice vid.
