Catch the end of the Vietnam era musical / film "Hair" and you will realise how poignant and significant this song is. It segues in and out of a second song "Manchester, England" (in the film) and the two powerfully convey the helplessness we feel when we cannot save someone we care about. The film ends as a small group of friends becomes 'a happening' and they sing joyfully of a prevailing hope through their collective sorrow. "Let the sun shine... on Timperley". I'm glad I was there to see it.
