  • Is that actually dilla in the video?

  • @ asdertert12345: It's Dilla. This promotional video was made in 2005 and released before he passed away. It was supposed to be used to promote the 'Jay Love Japan' album on Operation Unknown. One of the label's owners, Operator X, originally had this on his YouTube channel.

  • dilla HAD to go early...all the great ones do

  • u-god and rza would of killed this

  • This project has finally been cleared, and will be released on VINYL EP. Also included is a 7" record with the song "oxtapus" attached to in my opinion the freshest J Dilla T-shirt to date. From Operation Unknown, expect the release before 2008 ends, and at the latest first month of 2009.

  • bro,

    Different People

    Different Taste's

    Different perspectives on artists......

think before you slap down a foolish comment

  • him an dan are two pioneers of this shit man.....

paul: stetsasonic, gravdiggaz, 1st 3 de la soul lps, hip opera, psychoanalyis and handsome boy modelling school

dan:dr.octagon, deltron 3030, gorillaz, hieroglyphics an handsome boy modelling school, an dats only the half of it!!!

any educated debate to retort or jus another foolish contribution!

  • lemme guess...you like soulja boy, dont cha?

  • does anyone know the sample used for "Can't You See"?

  • i think it's "can't you see it's me" by "the supremes"..

  • dilla is the king of the beats but madlib is the one with the crazy loops that top anything kanye has done in his career.

  • yes. i agree

u should listen to pete rock & little brother there stuffs just as good

  • an prince paul baby, killin everything!!!

  • true

  • Metaform got'em all runnin to they crates sucka!

  • kanye is the loop king....dilla is the chopped samples king...9th is ok but he has no drums dilla is the best soul sampler of all time no disrespect to pete rock marley mal or primo..dilla is the best ever overall

  • go2class:

Primo is the chopped samples king, but Dilla is still a legend.

  • dilla can make chops sound like loops, and primo is just raw as fuck!

  • Dilla's raw too...

    Don't get it twisted..

  • nah i got you homie, been listenin for days. I love em both. "If hip hop is dead it died with dilla"

  • man, R.I.P Jay.

    We Love The Music

  • People get confused on what Hiphop is or what commerical rap is alot of these people doing that real hiphop music like common be doing commercial shit to but he still makes good music people thought he fell off with that electric circus then he hit us wit the corner and we was like hes baaaaack!! Hiphop can consist of alot of things id rather hear Kanye bubble yum music then sum crank that shit anyday

  • glad to hear someone who knows hip hop and doesnt think you have to be backpacker to be real hip hop...its all about C-R-E-A-T-I-V-I-T-Y

  • no one is arguing about the creative edge or the integrity of the substance.

but there comes a line you have to draw between pop music and hip hop.

common fell off for a number of reasons, but some people just like to attribute it to "electric circus," which was not the reason why his hardcore fans started to ditch him.

  • yeah and came back with "the corner"

  • the corner was wak, but thats just my opinion. I thought that was a classic album that was promoted all wrong because they were trying to ride kanye west's tail coat. to me, common came back with "the food" and i thought kanye west would switch up his style for once, but it was a one time thing.

the whole bullshit style of speeding up gospel/soul records continued for a few more years.

but nah, common fell off. movies, commercials, mediocre music...i remember when puff daddy did all that.

  • THE REAL DEAL

  • dilla is the best soul sampler of all time...kanye does bullshit loops....kanye cant chop for shit....dilla is his father

  • hahaha xD i have to agree. but i do like some of Kanye's. 'Touch The Sky' was really catchy =P

  • touch the sky was produced by Just blaze.

  • LOL

    How about 'Nothing Lasts Forever'?

Those are the main songs of his I like.

  • touch the sky was used with the curtis mayfield sample "move on up" but it was still just mostly a loop good shit though as far as sample choice.

  • i think this is the best beat of j dee

i love his beats, and the jaylib beats too

    Rest in Peace

  • yeah word.

  • yeah. Sometimes i listen to this beat over and over again. My favorite is "Bye" from Donuts but this one is up there, top 3 Dilla beats.

  • J Dilla lives forever. HIp Hop will never forget you.

  • Damn, This shows that J Dilla still has a shitload of good beats that still havn't been released. R.I.P J Dilla

  • And hell if they ever released them, it would put cats like Kanye West out of the business of beatmaking.

  • are you kidding?

Kanye is actually a good producer why would you say him and not an actual wack producer?

  • I said him cuz their styles are quite similar. They both have flow and sample the old school, I personally just think that Jay Dee sounds better, that's all. I would mention a wack one, but I can't think of one cuz I don't listen to them. I only listen to the best, and Jay is the best in my book.

  • Kanye is still a great producer...Dilla is just more sophisticated. Don't dis Kanye...any producer compared to Dilla is just not as good.

  • I'm gonna have to cosign this synopsis.

  • yeah kanye is the type of dude who wants to make that universal feel good music and i think he's great at what he does...and he puts alot of work into his music...but Dilla is a more talented beatmaker and musician though...

  • yeah youre dumb...kanye's talented, it was considered a great move for hip hop when Kanye outsold 50. GOOD music (consequence, common, big sean) outsold G-Unit (50, lloyd, and whatever else bubblegum rappers are on there)

  • I dont really consider Kanye West Hip-Hop, he's more Pop music than Hip-Hop (as well as 50 cent). So I think it was a bigger step for Pop music more so than Hip-Hop.

Plus the whole 50 cent "beef right before the album drops" scheme doesnt work anymore, so they invented this cute little competition between them to uphold this retarded paradigm of drama around rapper to sell more records.

  • you consider kanye pop? then you havent witnessed the lyrical content or listened to the rappers he signs

  • GLC, consequence, Common. Common and Kanye West are as pop as they come. I mean, Common sold his soul already. Kanye West defines Bubble Yum rap.

His lyrical content is mediocre at best. On a good day, he might spit a couple of memorable punchlines, but other than that his songs rely on harmonizing hooks and production - Pop music.

  • cynic...im not arguing with you until you get some pussy cause youre obviously pissed off at somethin.

  • you could just call me a "poopy face," you would be accomplishing the same thing by referring to a complete stranger's sex life.

It's pretty much a scientific fact, Kanye West has more wak lines than Chingy, and has attended more award shows with fellow pop artists than Justin Timberlake.

  • yeah youre right that was pretty pointless, but you are cynical...just because someone attends award shows doesnt mean their not hip hop

"mayonnaise colored benz i push miracle whips"

  • so rapping about a car you never had is hip hop?

wow, i thought hip hop was a little deeper than a car and 25 thou n*99a wow!!

  • rapping about bein rich isnt not hip hop...the line's creative. and hip hop is about creativity.

  • soldier boy was creative with a rhythm and a new dance, so he's hip hop, right?

  • k, add content to creativity...is that hip hop now?

  • afraid so.up to the mid nineties hip hop saw an era where the crews and posse has had something really substantial to say.very few groups back in the day strayed out that norm. nowadays its the other way around.its going back though, cuz now we getting back to the artistry of it.people getting tired of just song and dance they craving the underground
