A very intense music experience! I`ve never seen Ravi Shankar, but I`m looking forward to see his lovely and talented daughter! we can be lucky that the rare talent of Ravi Shankar lives on in his daughter!
IT IS SO WONDERFUL TO SEE RAVI STILL PLAYING, I FIRST SAW HIM LIVE IN SF AT THE FILMORE WEST IN 69...SUCH JOY STILL BEAMS FROM HIS FACE WHILE HE PLAYS. HIS DAUGHTER IS TRULY A JEM ALSO.
I am an Indian-American (the casino kind), French mix, and I live in the most multi-cultured (and oddly enough, tolerant) city I've ever known, (one of our biggest festivals of the year is Folklorama, an city wide event featuring the numerous cultures of our town.) and i have a fond liking for all sorts of music. I LOVE Shankar, and the sitar. :-)

@ysmzaika , thanks. Glad you provided some links. And not just a 1000, but 100s of 1000s of people know Vilayat Khan is better than Ravi Shankar. Can't expect people overseas to know that much about Vilayat Khan, that's all. It's tough luck, but it happens all the time. I also think Anoushka Shankar is just riding daddy's coat talis. There are 1000s of young sitar players far superior to her.
@ysmzaika , you're absolutely right. Ustad Vilayat Khan is greater than Ravi Shankar, but he didn't get the international exposure that Ravi Shankar did. You're protesting in the wrong forum. People need to be exposed to Vilayat Khan before they can make a judgement and that simply hasn't been the case.
there are no words to say my feeling... I'm just a little musician from Touraine, I know that I cannot understand but I have a great emotion. Thanks for these moments
You and your 4 friends need to have peace in your heart. You are coming across as mean and jealous...............you and your Ustad are unknowns and keep your opinions to yourself unless soembody asks you. If others are getting more credits that's good and more power to them. Maybe some other idiot like you is is thrasing them. Nobody listens or cares about mean people.
and you are such an unknown - in your whole life you will not have 1 thousand people listen to you - and this is just one song posted online with more than a million listen that does not include repeats.
I had the extreme privilege of seeing Ravi and Anoushka @ the University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium in October of 2009. It was a priceless experience that i will never forget! Thank you for making such beautiful music!!!!!!!
There's an energy, a vibe that seems to manifest in the air in this video. Not just between Ravi and Anoushka, or even Ravi and his players, but between everyone present. There is something highly spiritual that occurred in this moment, and even through this video it is palpable. I think their spirits were singing - If you listen hard enough you can almost hear it.
Raga is expression of feelings of love, sadness or joy as per its very evolution from the specific culture and as per varying situations faced by the people in that culture. It strikes when synchronized with situation being faced by the particular group of people or individuals in due course of time at specific moment.
"Most people are musicians simply because they play a certain instrument; when they play that instrument, the music appears. But Ravi - to me, he is the music; it just happens to be that he plays the Sitar. And it's like that with Anoushka. She has that quality - She is the music.
If the Youtube cliche of "this came from God's Ipod" applied to any video it would be this one. This music uniquely human at the same time. It expresses the deepest emotions that aren't always in the foreground of our thoughts. For this reason, I believe, we find it alien and "God Like". Divinity is what you declare it to be since the idea was ours after all. Much peace and love to everyone!

Would anyone know who Ravi was if not for George Harrison ? Thank god George turned this side of the world on to the sitar , its an awsome instument, and Ravi is amazing !!!!!! Norweigan wood is one of my favorite songs ever !!!!!
@jelevate33 I am in no way putting him down, if that is what you thought ! What I was saying is that more People were turned on to his music because of the Beatles , me included ! I absolutly think he is GREAT !
Please listen to my new song that I've uploaded on my page. I would really appreciate it if you would be able to let me know what you think about it. Thanks so much.
@MJMorrey he isn't pissed...in fact he is in awe of the great Pt. Ravi Shankar playing in front of him and that he got a chance to play along with him...he is mesmerized by the way the Sitar maestro is improvising...The maestro is fitting the raga brilliantly into one cycle of the taal that the tabla guy is playing... At one point of time Pt. Ravi Shankar dodges the beats by finishing the raga 1 beat before the tabla guy ends the cycle of beats...which is quite tricky to synchronize with
