i don't understand this car at all. i looked it up, it turns out this car is actually more expensive than the m3 sedan! why? this car is supposed to be a driver's car, right? it's somewhat of an suv, but it is still very impractical as it only has space for 4 and a small trunk.

the m3 is the ultimate driver's car, and has space for 5!!!!

That's the very simple approach to the topic. The fact is that quite a few 'American' cars are in fact made in Mexico and Canada, among others. Also, many Nissan's, Mercedes, and Toyota's, just to name a few, are made in America. If you are going to buy a car, it is your job to look into where it is made, but you most certainly cannot go on the assumption that if it is a Chevy or a Ford, it is helping our workers.

Something else to consider is that BMW, Nissan, Toyota, etc., are foreign companies. Ford, Chevy, etc., are American. So buying cars made here by foreign automakers will help a foreign company, buying cars made in US/Mexico/Canada by an American automaker will help an American company. Plus, more Americans own stock in US automakers than foreign automakers.

--I have better experience with American cars. I've owned 3 Fords, 3 Hondas, & 1 Acura. The Acura broke down just as much as any other car, except it was too expensive to fix. The Acura specialist I took it to said he can't even afford to fix his own Legend.

The Hondas are so high maintenence that it's too expensive to own them. For ex: Their CV boots.

mustangs have suspension from a covered wagon. fine on a jeep wrangler, not fine on a car that's supposed to be sporty like the mustang is.

so i could care less if your cars lasted the course of time, they still sucked, and it's no reason to buy american.

you should buy a cheap car that's fun to drive, economical, and reliable. a perfect example is the golf gti. it's $23,000 new, and im sure if you got a good one that's 2 years used, you can get it for $16,000. or, my mazda 6s. when it was new, it cost me $21,500 about, and it had a v6 and plenty of toys on it. and it's very reliable. they're both fantastic to drive as well.

there's no reason to buy, say a dodge avenger (worst car on sale today) over, say a vw jetta, or honda accord.

My Fords, on the other hand, fared far better.

My 1985 1/2 Escort got 33/43 mpg observed, while fully loaded with cargo! After 170K miles the only problem it had was a gasket.

My 1992 Probe cruised easily at 90-95mph while gettting great mpg. The only repairs: Pwr window & AC compressor.

My 1994 Mustang GT has 212K miles. In the last 4 yrs I've only had to repair the pwr window. It needs a cooling system overhaul, but I've been driving it since 2007 without a working cooling system!

if the only reason you buy cars is for reliability, then you are not a true lover. honestly, saying that all you want out of a car is 4 reliable wheels and a seat is like saying "all i want out of my girlfriend is punctuality". while that is a factor (like alfa romeo: great cars, but until not very unreliable) it should not be your number one priority. the escort and the mustang are shit. the european escorts were much better. and the probe idk enough about.

i know the jetta isn't really the best car in the world, but it's still a quantum leap from the avenger. btw, my dad had a honda that lasted 225,000 miles. and it's probably still running! when we sold it with that many miles on it, and it was 14 years old, we still managed to get $1,500 for it. he also has a still running 98 camry. mind you, that car is far from fun to drive, and far from the most comfortable thing in the world. but, it works fine, and has 150,000 miles on it.

Never again, never, never, never, never, ever, ever again will I own another Toyota. If you gave me a Toyota I'd sell it. I'd more likely give it away just so that the person receiving it couldn't come to me complaining about it later.

But comparing our cars, you must admit that my American cars stack up just as well to your Japanese cars in reliability and value. Myth busted.

in fact, i unfortunately was given a commander as a loaner car the other day, and it was so cheap that when you touched the panels around the dashboard gently, the entire dashboard would shake. and that car costs $31,000? more than a pathfinder?

what!?! i have owned 4 so far, and the only one i thought wasn't good value was my 06 nissan altima. but, i have a 5 year old mazda 6, it still looks and feels fantastic, i had a 14 year old accord, and that still felt fantastic.

my 98 camry doesn't feel great anymore, but it's still running with absolutely no problems.

on the other hand, i had 2 american cars, a ford grenada and a mercury cougar, both ended in misery.

There are practically no ergonomic advantages to the X6. Yes it is sportier, but that is pretty much where they draw the line. Have to sacrifice plenty from the X5, just to get a more sporty CUV. Altogether, not my personaly choice, it is a very competitive market, and i would rather have the X5 any day.
