In 1998 we moved to Florida for two weeks, and Edie was my neighbor; Vilma and Edie clicked instantly, and I shall never forget our watching her from the balcony as she swam with the energy of young person, and she was the only individual that made me hesitate when it came to leaving Florida; they should have let her marry the Obolensky boy; she said he was the love of her life. Like Vilma she was given to tears and laughter equally.

For how long was she living in Florida? She died back at Grey Gardens. I find it disgusting that after the doc. she could die totally alone. People say more acceptance of eccentric, non mainstream now but I actually think the world is becoming more and more conformist. I have a really hard time as I hate fitting in!
@Lor3tta1 if you mean the clip where she spins in the long leather coat, it would appear to be a white/grey scarf fringe hanging in the back. If you look you see what appears to be part of the same scarf in the front of the jacket

I guesse it seems as though little Edie made the ultimate sacrafice by being with her mother all those yrs so that she wasn't alone, and then in the end litte Edie was just that, alone. Even to the point that she died alone. I don't know if she had any close friends at that time but she should have had someone with her. Or not, maybe she wanted it that way?? Either way, hopefully she is at peace now, with no regrets.

There is a second doc- a sequel of sorts- that came out about 1.5 years ago called 'The Beales of Grey Gardens'. It's comprised of some of the 90+ hours that didn't make it into the original doc. That's where the footage here that's not from the original comes from. Rent it! It's almost better than the first! (if you're a big fan of the original anyway) : )
