In California, it is a felony for the cop to "not wear the badge or refuse to show it after the 1st request" This includes undercover cops as well, there are no statements or documented clauses that exempt undercover officers from being required to wear a badge. It is a requirement as far as I was aware, however who is going to enforce a law that only police can break? Which is most likely why there is a judicial review, however under the circumstances I cannot see the officers involved receiving anything worse than a slap on the wrist.

The reason they were being asked for ID was to identify officers on a website which is victimising not the police force they belong to but the individual officer. I think you are all crazy. To a degree, the officers were just when arresting these ladies. They were, in effect, obstructing the duties of the officers; which is to patrol and police the protest. Granted, the officer should have stated his collar number when asked, however, there was little grounds for him to do so as the officer, id imagine, would have merely warned the lady to move on or be clear of an area; therefore, when constantly harrased to produce it, they resort to arrest.

@jendrixhendrix don't be dense. The footage of apache helicopter gunning down civilians was FROM the apache helicopters, that doesn't absolve them of guilt. An officer not wearing ID, regardless of the reason should be as forthright as any to offer proof of identity. It's called accountability. Without it "they" can do whatever they want without fear of repercussion. He could have just offered his ID number and deescalated the situation vs arrest someone for standing there.
The fact that they knew you were fit watching, means nothing. There footage is Police footage. The only person arrested was this woman who refused to moved when quite legitimately requested to do so (three times on camera) she was then arrested and minimum force seemed to be used to gain control and make that arrest at 4:22 seconds the woman is seen to kick out at the cop, so cant complain about having her foot restrained. She was rude and abusive and i really cant see anything wrong here.

There is no law that states a police officer must identify himself if he is not searching you. You were just asking a question and you got arrested for that? I think not somehow. The Guardian are always editing videos, only showing us half the story in their ongoing anti-police campaign

@007RoyalFlush but then you have to think from the other side.. most footage of protests/activists etc. show the wrong doings of the public and the violence from their side, very rarely do you see news channels showing the when the police are the ones in the wrong and using the power they have for all the wrong reasons, it's also the footage shown to the majority of the public that is edited and clipped to show half the story.

If you look at 2:32 into the clip it clearly shows Vals foot being stood on by police and when told that they are standing on her foot the camera man quickly goes away from that area in the shot.

For anyone in the UK. Is this a normal occurrence when it comes to confrontations with the police and protests? I think its pathetic how police cant have anyone watching them but they have all the power to watch any person they want. It is a requirement as far as I was aware, however who is going to enforce a law that only police can break? Which is most likely why there is a judicial review, however under the circumstances I cannot see the officers involved receiving anything worse than a slap on the wrist.

Any person who resist or willfully obstructs a constable in the execution of his duty, or person assisting a constable in the execution of his duty, shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month or to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale or both. If the police are observing a protest and the protesters obstruct them they are guilty of an offence.

Also is it a legal obligation for the police to display their ID tags or give an ID number when requested otherwise it could be anyone in a police uniform, could it not? And if it was such a straight forward crime and the punishment seemed fair why was there a judicial review in place?

@reloadedgangsta The officers that dont wear there epaulets are in the wrong, and just asking for ID is not obstructing police, the officers that were present were part of a forward intelligence teams. The reason they were being asked for ID was to identify officers on a website which is victimising not the police force they belong to but the individual officer. Other than that nothing else the officers did was in any way wrong. My post was in reply to people saying no offence had been committed

My brother worked as a police officer for many years, but recently left to work in private security.

I think you are all crazy. To a degree, the officers were just when arresting these ladies. They were, in effect, obstructing the duties of the officers; which is to patrol and police the protest. Granted, the officer should have stated his collar number when asked, however, there was little grounds for him to do so as the officer, id imagine, would have merely warned the lady to move on or be clear of an area; therefore, when constantly harrased to produce it, they resort to arrest.

@jendrixhendrix don't be dense. The footage of apache helicopter gunning down civilians was FROM the apache helicopters, that doesn't absolve them of guilt. An officer not wearing ID, regardless of the reason should be as forthright as any to offer proof of identity. It's called accountability. Without it "they" can do whatever they want without fear of repercussion. He could have just offered his ID number and deescalated the situation vs arrest someone for standing there.

The fact that they knew you were fit watching, means nothing. There footage is Police footage. The only person arrested was this woman who refused to moved when quite legitimately requested to do so (three times on camera) she was then arrested and minimum force seemed to be used to gain control and make that arrest at 4:22 seconds the woman is seen to kick out at the cop, so cant complain about having her foot restrained. She was rude and abusive and i really cant see anything wrong here.

A couple of Sunday's ago my son asked me to drive him to a nightclub at the beachfront close to the FIFA soccer stadium. The so called officer they took a picture of was not a police officer but working for the UK Military as part of a joint exercise with the police to bring the Armed Forces into managing the Publc once the next "escalation" takes place.
