3out, 4 up is this. On the second set of drawbars from the left is the only set that uses the percussion. You pull the 1st 3 all the way out. That's 3 out. The percussion in the upper Rt corner, is 4 white buttons that can be pushed up or down. All 4 get pushed up which is, ON, SOFT, FAST, THIRD.. This is a classic setting & is what you usually hear when somebody's jammin' on a B3. herbiethebarber on you tube or google it....

As far as the drawbar settings or stops as they're sometimes called. Thanks, I loved it! I'm like Blessie1229, I played several instruments & sang all my life (50 years now) & never learned to jam/improvise (& enormously appreciative of those with the gift)! I *LOVE* vintage instruments of all kinds, right now my current obsession is Hammond organs + the genres of music that go with the generations of the instrument & great sounds you get with the Leslie phenom . Your vid shows a truly gorgeous instrument, wow. Thanks again! Peace, Kathy in KC
Hi, I really appreciate your posting this online. I am a classical pianist and it seems hard for me to play stuff like rock music unless I have the music sheet. Can you please share me just the "Organ" lead part of this piece? I will really appreciate it. I am in a band now..and I seem to be the weakest link here despite my knowing how to read music.
I don't mean to be rude, but if the player is sober this sounds too exact, like one of those roll pianos. I hope you understand what I mean when I say: You can play it, but somehow you can't, because you lack some acid.
Thanks for the comment, the sheet music is in the Hal Leonard book "Santana's Greatest Hits: Transcribed scores." Every instrument played is noted or tabbed out. There are some sites for drawbar settings out there, some better than others. Just search google for hammond drawbar registrations.
Would you be willing to make a video showing how to play this solo? Or maybe even a video where I can see your hand better and you play a little slower. that would be amazingly helpful!
@dlm9293 It's a forgiving but very hands on instrument. It doesn't take very long to learn to play on two divided keyboards, but playing it keeps you busy and always trying to think ahead. You adjust drawbars, percussion, vibrato and leslie motor speed on the fly. There is a volume pedal for the right foot and bass pedals for the left foot if you really want a challenge.
amazing. do u think playing this on a korg bx3 would sound much like this or is it just only the hammond that has that pacific sound. any way any chance of doing lessons of this that would make my life so much easier thanks great playing
That's a pretty decent run with that solo. I'm trying to get up the courage to go find a shop in my area which still has old Hammonds in it, just to see one of those things up close and maybe try my hand at it. Unfortunately, it'd be like trying to drive a racecar after spending 25 years doing a short commute on a rinky-dink ol' 4-cyl hatchback. I never did follow my instinct into learning to play on keyboards.
i want a hammond organ sooo bad. my grandpa was a rev. and he had a hammond b3 in his church but i was never allowed to even touch it. always had a huge interest in organs, especially huge pipe organs. great job sounds like the original.
The settings I should have used at that point are 888800088 on A# preset (there is no percussion available when using that preset), vibrato is on C1 for Great (upper) manual, Leslie tremolo (fast)
Lol I can understand why the organ might be a problem mate lol! Ive been trying to get a Santana band tongether for years. Ive seen Santana live coutless times, and even caught a pick twice yay lol. I can never find anyone who can play the organ parts like that though....
sweet dude thx for the reply! but yea, basically i would like to have the sound on this video. Im getting into pianos and organs and this is Def the sound!!!! it just gets me you know, that tone in incredible , its like possesd church music!! haha
Nice B3! Can you please learn Lazy the solo and intro! Lazy from Deep Purple! I just want to see a real pro play it on a real B3! But one problem, you have to learn the beast, and Jon Lord used a Marshall for the Machine Head album... So you would have to buy a Marshall, but I know the Leslie can do the same effect, but it's not as string as a Marshall... So please! This is a special request!

It's such a tragic trend that organs are no longer commonplace in rock n roll. Great playing!
