fuck ya fuck ya fuck ya fuck ya never seen live FUCKING FOOTAGE OF THIS GREAT BAND DAVE GILBERT WAS A GREAT VOCALIST ONE OF THE BEST IN ROCK AND ROLL ,HAD TICKETS TO PINE KNOB SHOW 1984 SOLD THEM WENT TO CALIFORNIA WHAT A MISSCUE ON MY PART,NEVER SAW THEM LIVE,AND THANK YOU JIM.AND WHOVER PUT THIS ON HERE HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR IT FOR LON LONG TIME,ROCKETS WRITE UP THERE WITH BOB,TED,ALICE,DAVE SANG BETTER THAN ANY OF THEM
I seem to remember that some kid won a contest on MTV and these guys played o block party from his lawn. I've always wanted to see the result. All these years later, this music holds up so well. I will never understand (save for the drinking problems of the frontman) how these guys never ended up being absolute monsters from Motown, but a decade later, some fat white rapping clowns got more success than these guys.
anyone else in the Detroit/Windsor area see these guys play the outdoor amphitheatre at St.Clair College in Windsor around 1980 +/-? what a show for a young kid...and I scored passes to shoot pics too. still have the negatives. what a great show!
@TIMJ444 Yup, I was there! Got back stage passes. It was the Can-Am Jam. The King Bees were there and a couple of other bands. The Rockets put the beer we brought in the refrigerator of their trailer and their roadies put it on the stage. My buddy says "The Rockets are drinking our beer!" We were bummin', I think I drank two beers out of the whole case. We had to make a speacial trip to the Windsor beer store to get more.
I have a pristine 45 with Desire on Side A and Troublemaker on Side B. Had to dig it out to remember the band name. The song's been in head for days now. Super fun flashback!!
I uploaded these two videos, Desire and Oh Well, again after enhancing the Audio a bit. These 'second attempts' are posted on the right but with fewer 'hits.'
Being A fairly close friend growing up with him, I can say he was a great, and wild guy. Lots of fun to hang with. I saw at least a hundred performances, and sat in the recording studio with them, for a few songs, I was never disappointed with any of their shows! RIP Dave. Rocket Roll! Spider Savich
I was fortunate enough to play in a cover band with Donnie, after The Rockets broke up. Played mostly around the Jackson area. Me being 17 at the time, I can't tell you how incredible it was to play with such a talented musician. Wish I knew how to get an email to him.
Thanks for the insight / background on that particular gig. Yes, both bands (Rockets / REO) went on extremely late that night - so its cool now to know what was behind the delay. I'm 50 years old and have seen quite a few concerts - but that Rockets / REO concert rates as one of the most memorable and one of my most favorite shows.
I was lucky enough to catch these guys live back in 1979 (Notre Dame IN - ACC Auditorum). They openrd up for REO Speedwagon (Nine Lives tour) It was an incredible show! What a great band! Went out and bought the album the very next day
Thank you thank you for posting these! I have been searching for Rockets music on Itunes and here for awhile. I remember playing their albums over and over in high school. Never got to them live tho.
this video and the "Oh Well" video I posted, are from a VHS tape my older brother recorded. I have an idea what show it came from, but not definite. I had to convert the tape to a digital format because it was rotting when I found it. That's the reason for the "swirly" sound and video in certain places.
Thanks for all of the comments. These guys rocked-the-house back in the day, and are still playin' and rockin' today.
I'm just as crazy as youuu....yeah yeah
