  • How does this actually make the 'shift' a shorter distance?

  • What did you do with the aluminum pulley-looking thing tthat fits on the shifter shaft? I can figure out what its for, maybe something to do with securing the boot?

  • wow youtube cant count.. 4:40, 4:41, 4:42, 4:44?

  • Jesus... could be any more of a little bitch

  • will this short shifter fit any car??? please get back to me

  • @LukeKaboom It will fit any 2.2L and 2.4L Cobalt. The SS s/c and t/c Cobalts have a different gearbox.

  • i was wondering if it is at all possible to change an automatic car into a manual car my car is a 91 ford escort any help would be much appreciated thanks

  • @joufu10 you can do an ATX to MTX swap, but you'd need a manual transmission for your car and the swap would be pretty expensive. your best chance is to find an MTX escort. I say go with a 98-03 escort ZX2.

  • para que sirve el short shifter???

  • On the stock shifter, there's a rubber boot that covers the ball joints.. Now my question is, if you order a short shifter on ebay, do they include that or you have to use your stock rubber boots? Because mine is bad and they dont have it auto parts store

  • dude just installed the short shifter on my Ion and I have to say that this video was helpful.

Definitely the 2 mistakes warning was great.

  • @badmufuca619 Thank you for the feedback. I am glad to hear it helped.

  • @arcofadiver1 How did you remove arm and ball from the housing, if you can let me know quickly I would appreciate it.

  • lol you stopped the video, do I have to assume that you shouldn't have got lazy and took it apart again lol. or at very least get the cables out of the way before you start cutting.

Im just giving you a hard time. I like the fact you did it your self and made a video of it.

  • I actually DIDN'T take it all apart again to cut that corner off. I just put my handsaw right into my center console and started cutting. But yeah, I guess I was kind of lazy when I made this. But at the same time it was hard to hold the camera while doing work.

  • was it worth the effort? ( :

  • haha omg what a CF install that is for this car. You have to cut the gearbox and rip out all of that crap just to install a short shifter? Take the boot off a mustang and remove a few bolts and you are done. Wow, GM really didn't think that design through. I have my eye on a cobalt for a beater and was wondering if a short shifter was something that could be done easily enough. I have to say after seeing this video that I'll pass.

  • Yeah it was way more work then I expected. The instructions were also very unclear.

  • @escrotumus Yeah i put a Short throw shifter in a Honda Quick as hell

  • NICE WRITE UP! Too bad my Cobalt is a AUTO!

  • was that a cobalt?

  • yes, non SS

  • That's what dremels are for.

  • thats the most complex gearbox Ive seen on a car.. maybe I just dont get out much. deff not a honda.

  • @IsThisGreg this looks very much like the dohc saturn sc2 shifter bax I had to make a new way of holding it cause as the rest of the car the shifter bushing is plastic and can break

  • hey, if u cut yourself on cam, that would be called entertainment. not embaressment. :) great job!

  • funny guy!

  • ROFL "I could cut myself"

  • I'd rather figure things out for myself than be lazy and let other people do everything for me.

  • yeah i agree. btw what ride u got?

  • totally agree...if you like DIY jobs then go for it...

  • nice job!

tried to install my short shift on mt 03 corolla. couldt get a bolt out. try again tomorrow

  • good vid, I am working on my tc and well a short shifter is next on my to do list. Its good that you posted this, now i know what to do and what to expect. Thanks man

  • I just installed a C's JDM short shifter on my 90 300zx Z32 and it was hard/awkward or more so then expected. Your video made me realize I didnt grease the ball oops nice job.

  • dude that took way too long and way too much fabrication. took me 5 min to install Hurst into my mustang all i needed was a lift and a socketwrench

  • fabrication?

  • for my hurst sts was maybe a 8-10 min install

  • What??? For a Cobalt SS??

  • yea, all you do is take of the covers by the shifter and ebrake, unscrew the black thing holding down the shifter, unclip the old one and clip in the new one. i think for this video you took too much things off, maybe hust and twm are different i dunno. but ive put in a couple of shifters before so maybe im fast with it lol

  • didn't all the mods you did to the stand made it weaker because you too a lot of chunks out of it?

  • Why not show the completed assembly? total cliffhanger!!

  • Let me ask you, do you get any satisfaction from criticizing something else? Have you noticed that no one has ever become famous because they were a critic? Because they found something wrong with everything??

  • It's in a separate video.

  • What a piece of shit! My Subaru was alot easier to have a short shifter installed!!! Of course the Subaru (due to rally experience) is much more simplistic in design and thus doesn't take much effort to mod!

Poor guy trying to fix a Cobalt.... :(

  • Yeah, it was a lot more work than I expected.

  • But hey man, you did it!!! lol

Thats weird though, my car was totally different mechanically than that was, IDK why!

  • oh nice

  • Hey what type of car is it ?

  • It's a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt coupe.
