  • Mark .. love your sense of humor! " Everybody out there is now nuts!" lol I agree with you ... I liked The Secret too, but it is all just repackaged information with new wrapping paper and different colored bow. Effective marketing? YES ... can't deny that. The principle is there ... but it is very much sensationalized. And now everyone is nuts! haha

  • Mckenna36: Reality has been around since day-one! Not everyone followed the Bible from Its outset (hello???) The rest of what you say isn't worth a comment; except for your analogy of the 'wish-fairy' which just about sums up 'the secret'. Go break a leg and get into the 'wish-fairy' that is the secret that's only just now brought to the masses and yet has been around a long time (the Bible's been around for 2000 years!) Clever marketing will always suck people in ... get the picture

  • narbundi: I see nothing wrong with your objedctive comment that deserves the thumbs down that someone gave you. Your point is valie and worthy of a healthy challenge that your bring forward. Thumbs up from me. ~F~

  • [Strive and work. Warm fuzzy feelings. Conviction. No secret to success. Well marketed. Genie. Everybody nuts. Not healthy. Check Data. Sell Law of Attraction. Work orientated. Do you know what you are talking about? Marketing the Universe. Challenging.]

Just a few points that hit me whilst listening/watching your vid and certainly one of the more objective ones I've seen here in Youtube. A very well put together vid and I'll be back another day with more of my feelings ~F

  • Sorry; you have nothing there for anyone to hold onto in how you say it. The Church has been around since before 'day one' of what we invented and called 'Calendar.' It's stood the test of time if we like it or not and those who are trying to contain or pull it down, don't succeed. History itself has had enough opportunity to 'kill' Religion and does not) succeed. There is *no* comparison to the Church and the secret until something else supersedes it; so, what's going to supersede the Bible

  • You are being ambivalent, you say you love the Secret but complain about all its advertising methods. You have one foot in both camps. Byrne and Proctor don't give a shit about anything they do to people, they don't care if the people who you meet are crazy because of The Secret. Once their product becomes outdated they will sell shit in another package. Proctor can't undo the harm he has caused by TS, no matter how much you like him. I just think you are too deep in the MLM world to see it.

  • Part4. and this group is very likely to be attracted, since they might need help the most.

If they get in to serious visualizing and DON'T recieve a fat check in their mail, DON'T get the job they hoped for,

DON'T get well from that disease or DON'T lose weight - naturally they will blame themself, thinking that they didn't do it the right way.

So it's their own fault, they try again and nothing happens, and now they REALLY get depressed. (Last words in part 5)

  • It is probably useless to say I couldn't agree more. thank you for your great input.

    - yes, there is actually the xyz-cortex, reticulum, whatever, that even gives a scientific explanation why goal-setting works. you may have also read "psycho-cybernetics" by maxell maltz, who noticed after plastic- surgery people did not see any changes even if half of their nose was chopped off. "self-image", deeply ingrained - amazing. so change inner picture, change outer reality. stop eating chickens...

  • EllenZ123: Thats another great point you bring out here. The Church has the Bible in which to teach and practice Faith; the secret (without 'visualisation' and DVD) wouldn't amount to much more than a book full of words. That's where marketing comes in and in what Mark mentions in his vid and it's this which turns the secret into something more 'valuable' than any other self-teaching books already out there on the shelf by injecting credence by using such terms as 'visualisation' in vid format

  • part 3. If you seriously believe that visualizing a big sum of money really will make it come to you.

Or believing that just visualizing yourself with a slim body, will make you lose 20 lbs without changing your diet.

If you are used to eat 10 chickens a day plus a huge amount of fries and coke, it really doesn't matter if you chew it well and slowly.

And the BIG damage can be done, if this 'religion' attracts weak, depressed and vulnerable people -

    Ok, look for part 4

  • part 2 - and fries and drink only diet coke. I mention him because he also talks about goal-setting a lot, I think cyber means "helm" or goal-seeking-something. visualizing money, maybe u refer to napoleon hill's think and grow rich and the chapter that talks about that. I agree with you, but think that maybe the visualisation-process could fuel "desire" and slowly but surely change our thinking towards money and help us believe more is possible which is important for..."success".

  • EllenZ123: At last! The fist person I've seen associated 'religion' to the secret! I think this itself deserved a comment and thumbs up. ~F~

  • part 2: ...and you will have a more outgoing personality.

Visualizing is also a good and well known for being used in sports, to achieve your goals.

So, it's not that idea in itself that I find creepy. It's the baking it all into a religion-like thing.

Anyone who seriously and blindly believe it all literally, can get in big trouble. If, for example, you believe that thinking positive thoughts can make some disease go away or make your eye vision good again. continuing...

  • Hi Mark. I have not seen the film, but just read the book. And (maybe because I'm not religious ) I found it creepy.

Not so much for the 'secret', which is, just like you say, no secret but just 'an old hat'.

It's nothing to do with universe, it's just an old well-known fact that positive thoughts make you feel better, and when you feel better you are more likely to reach your goals, because it makes you feel stronger, happier, determined and you... oops limited characters. To be continued..

  • Mark,I think they use the term "universe" to describe God. Also look in the bible, Mathew 21 Verse 22 and Mark 11 Verse 24, both clearly state that "Anything" you ask for in faith is yours. By not believeing in the Secret you would also have to not believe in God or the words written in the bible. Those who master true faith receive what they ask for, it's just the way it works, it's undeniable. The Secret is an excellent tool for teaching one to have true faith and manifest their every wish.

  • I completely agree, though I do not believe in God. Yes, our thinking determines the outcome and what we attract. Just not in a metaphysical or religious way. If we think positively and up-beat for example, of course we will emenate that and people will ... you know, feel that, like us more, and maybe like so we become more successful. I am just not a believer in literally attracting whatever "out of the blue". For example I found the example with the gay guy a bit silly (in the movie).

  • p305278: No; those who master true

Faith in the Bible don't *always* get what they ask for; there is a lot more to 'ask and you will receive' than you, apparently, don't fully grasp in how the Bible teaches the concept of this. I am no practicing Christian but I know the Bible does not teach 'ask you you shall receive' as emphatic fact without much more Spiritual concepts being in place. Some of the greatest and faithful Christians *don't* get what they ask for. ~F~

  • actually the secret mentions that once u have ur mind set on something, u dont attract it to urself unless u set ur mind to it and then actually take action towards it but just not think negatively, kinda keep ur eye on the prize kinda thing :D

  • Hmm, I want to see the secret now.

  • Great video Mark..

    Keep em coming.

    -Andy-

  • Hi Mark. Great video. I've been talking about the Universe for years. And you are right the Secret is no secret and it's old information repackaged to sell to a new market. And guess what it worked. And 10 years from now it'll be repacked a different way and brought out again. You are right it's about making goals and them making them happen. And this is just another way to help people find focus. The guy with the towel was a genie. He was just symbolic.

    Take Care

    Rayvin & Rob

  • I don't agree with you. You may not believe in the secret but id . the guy narbundi, even though he says there is no secret he is descrining the secret. working hard is one of the main steps to the secret. the secret won't work if your just saying to yourself that this event will happen, you have to take action for the secret to work. make sense?

  • sure. but what's so special about that?

  • moonmax: No, what you say doesn't make sense ... at least not according to the way the secret works and how it's sold. There is *no* 'secret' to life; nothing purports to be hidden and (as Mark touches on here) the secret seems to indicate we've all lost the power of good old common sense and hard work. Great Thinkers of centuries ago searched inwardly to discover themselves in the hope of finding the meaning to life itself; none succeeded and yet this book indicates it has. Go figure :) ~F~

  • Mark is describing the secret, the secret is a mix of common sense and hard work. With a little of believing invovled. Again there is no secret to life, this is just a way of thinking and way to run your life around. You don't have to use it.

  • I'm not gonna knock religion but consider those who go to a revival meeting and come home saved. That happens, it happens a lot and of those it happens to the biggest issue is that of sustaining what they felt 'that night'. Of course, that's how many Christians would say it's how it goes but, there have to be those who don't make it and think it was just the moment. The secret is much the same; buy the book, hype up then hop off the bus when it fails coz it doesnt do what it says on the tin.

  • oh but it does. try it out, it may take a while though.

  • monmax: You are considering that I don't already know the laws of attraction. I was reading them a long, long time ago. Why do I need to go out and purchase a book on something I already know the fundimentals of? There's nothing in there that could not be told someone who might slap themselves in the face and say "how come I didn't know what I already knew but didn't stop to think about??"

  • f people buy the book because they haven't heard the secret before and if they have, to get more knowledge on this subject

  • And you can write a book about it and be suksessfull from writing a successfull book;)

  • moonmax123: ... that being the case, then why does it take such a thing as the secret (which has outsold *any* books of its ilk already out there) to get people to actually become a movement? Since when has it *not* been common-sense that says: 'if I do this the right way I can make it happen'? Does our world *really* need to be taught how to live in such a way as to make things happen? Have we all lost the plot and it takes the secret to pull us back on-track? According to the secret, yes.

  • the secret is just something that can help you in life. You don't have to use it. It is just a way of thinking. and its monmax not moonmax

  • monmx123: Sorry for getting your name wrong.

If it's something that can help in life then the entire secret becomes jaded. I don't think the directors and publishers of the secret want you to think 'it can help.'

I wish people would see beyond the hype that the secret itself stirred; get on thing right in your mind, the secret is a marketing success and this is all that sets it apart from the rest of the 'DIY' books already out there. Nothing is new except the marketing.

  • but i do think that it can help in life

  • Are U Related To Arnald? Just Joshing! Ofcourse NOT!. But Ya Damn Sound Like Him!?

  • I would have to agree with you that it's certainly a different way of looking at the world, but in my opinion the one factor that validates the secret is that they're a group of worldly realist people understanding and supporting a concept that is based on biblical teachings. These realists said, "thoughts become things." How profound is it for these people to gather and say this? And they didn't say you will gain if you pay something (indicating a scam), this message is true and genuine.

  • What is the other movie you suggested, about beliefs? Nikhol? I did not get it. I would like to see it. Thank you.

  • hey there. not a movie, an audio-program. Nick Hall: change your beliefs, change your life!!!

    :)

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks for your visit to my channel. You have a interesting way of communicating. I know little of this book or movie about "the Secret." There as so many fads out there and get rich schemes out there.I personally I believe in love cause when you love it always comes back to you through one way or another. Like in the phrase "paying it forward" Now I liked that movie. But the real trick is loving for the sake of it and not wanting anything in return...now that's a goal...

    Sincerely,

    MamaM

  • That's very thoughtful, I don't think that people were talking about the universe even 2 or 3 years ago.

  • You tell 'em, Mark!

Although I don't quite get the skeptical discussion mixed with the marketing messages...
