I'm working on a fursuit head with long-pile fur, and I'm unsure if shaving is necessary... the fur itself sort of smooths down and stays down extremely well, and it looks very nice when smoothed. However, it does fluff out at times, and it doesn't look very good then.. I can't afford a professional grooming kit either..
...Would there possibly be like a hair product or something I could use to make the fur on my suit stay smooth, without losing it's softness? Like styling mousse, maybe?
This was really helpfull <3 I know you can use it for fursuit heads. But can you use it for shaving bodysuits? I have a duct tape dummy and everything.
I ended up getting a somewhat better grade of pet shaver myself for when I worked on the fur for my suit's head. The fur fibers tends to sneak in between the blades rather easily if your not careful on the lower grade shavers.
I also noticed that some furs look different when they are shaved too.
Hey, thanks for doing this tutorial. I don't use the guards on my clippers and I know I've definitely screwed some things up as a result. I should definitely try doing it this way, you always get such nice results.
@MUSTGOCOSPLAY This shaver I am using is an Andis shaver, its lasted me a very long time I can't remember how much it was (I think in this case this is the one I recieved as a gift) ... Look in the pet grooming department, of your local department store. They usually sell them there, and you can price out a model that comes as a kit with oil and guards.
Great tutorial. You have a pleasant voice. There are many tutorials done where the user either have a boring or obnoxious voice so this was a nice change from what I normally see.
@baltofanplay Thank you so much! I'm sorry I don't! Our NorthSound pattern is available free for everyone to make under a Creative Commons License (not to be created for profit). Its so you can make your own! :D
Also could you do some plush tutorials? You're really good at it! .3.

If shaving the fur on a mask, would you recommend shaving the fur before or after application?

In response to how much those grooming kits are, you are looking $200-500 brand new. I work in a pet store.
