  • sounds like its being played on an old cassette walkman with low batteries

  • ace

  • @jimjustjim76 What's an urdge, champ?

  • @jimjustjim76 me 2, i am still a smiths fan after all these years. ive tried to outgrow morrissey, but he just tells the truth

  • don't think the backing track is different from LTB but this vocal is an alternate take. very interesting.

  • Was this recording from the 1987 release? I bought the album a few months back, and HaP sounds too cleaned up.

  • @jimjustjim76 fuck yeah 80's bumper stickers rule!!

  • 23, fat, clumsy and shy for me ^_^

  • yotakojima That's when Morrissey was curious about getting some pussy.

  • I have just discovered The Smiths & suddenly they became my second favorite band :D

  • I wished I'd found the place, where I want to stay.

  • I love this song, but just, how exactly did he get into the YWCA?

  • Never to be repeated in this lifetime.

  • It is sad, but this is the music of my life...

  • i used to listen to this song when i was 12 wait i am 12

  • @chikenboby wow that's really wait no it isn't

  • guitar are so flowless-a drummer knows!

  • who are those 35 people?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • @MattPwnsYouAll221 Mike Joyce, all of them.

  • Comment removed

  • @MattPwnsYouAll221 are the USB flashdrive "generation"

  • Smiths is a very unique music, they had a very particular way of do music. fantastic

  • @jimjustjim76 Just not for depression tho! lol

  • This sounds very different to my CD copy of Louder than Bombs, can anyone shed any light?

  • @gibkid I noticed the same thing. I wondered if the CD has been remastered between 1987 and now. More likely though, computer speakers are so different than stereo speakers, thus the sound is too. Personally, I like the computer version better. It makes it sound more raw. So thanks UcidDinMers.

  • @gibkid @vasgrafix I thought so too but now I think it's just a really bad upload - sound not equalized, variations in tempo, etc. There are better versions on YT or just stick to your CD!

  • i think this the best smiths song

  • "In the days when you were

    Hopelessly poor

I just liked you more..." How true

  • Is this taken from 'Louder than bombs' album? Is sounds different...

  • irland??

  • The Smiths defined my years in high school in the late eighties...thank God.

  • @futari2009 The Smiths defined my years in high school in 2007...thank God.

  • great

  • two weeks ago i had never heard of the smiths

my dad and I went on a trip to london, he told my how great their music was

now it's the only thing i listen to all day

  • @nanagedons I just started listening to the smiths two days ago after being well aware of who morrisey was as a solo act. I cant stop listening

  • let me get this off my chest..this is the greatest english pop song of the 80s..i await the storm of protest :)

  • @arbab44 protest? don't they give nobels for insights like this? total agreement.

  • fell in love with music all over again! thank god i found the smiths <3

  • Is this a radio session ? It's differant to the version on The World won't Listen.

  • what a song! Ty Smiths!

  • perfect song

  • seemed like every band in dublin at the time was a singing about a the socially dire circumstances we were all experiancing they gave a voice to us and we all realised this dreed was being experianced by a whole generation but when the smiths came on the scene it took dower miseary to knew heights.- we thought omg! this feeling is'nt exculsive to us miserable wrecks in Dub....how relieved were we when we found out the whole band were Irish and our genetic misery was still exculsive to us:-)

  • Iconic.

  • They had sucessfully aimed at 80' teenagers. who needed only an especulative mind to trigger the whole existential issue!! Great!!

  • Wonderful song! Perfect!!

  • maybe my favorite Smiths song ever. Such a great tight song with little fat. And it's funny that whenever the Smiths are mentioned this song never comes up. It really is a great song, and one of my favorites of theirs.

  • i held morrisseys hand when he pulled me outa crowd at leeds tnc. my hero!!!! n my fave song :)

  • i loved th the smiths growing up in 1980's, & then mostly listened to lyrics that were perfect for teenage age, but hearing it again, i'm mostly amazed by the guitar, & just the amount of chorus effect johnny marr used!

  • Morriseys words are louder than the loudest bombs of any war that man brought upon us . i cant go a day without listening to the smiths...every song was made perfectly....

  • simit mimit bozar delikanlıyı, dinlemeyin lan.

  • gay işi amk

  • 16 clumsy and shy, yep story of my life.

  • I can't even say what it is about The Smiths that I love. Their music is totally different from my usual taste, but I just love it so much.

  • Morrissey is life

  • De lo mejor que han hecho...

  • The story of my life.

  • "Do you have a vacancy for a back-scroobber?"

  • brilliant song. however, i think yoni wolf's cover almost surpasses the original

either way, it's a beautiful song

  • I like this better than How Soon Is Now?

Both are great Smiths songs though, and lots of others that will be played and remembered for many more years.

  • I'm 43, and I listened to the Smiths all through High School

  • @andrewc2768 I found them out when I was 21 at the turn of the century. Im 32 now. lol. Nice. They are absolutely among the best bands ever! haha

  • I was listening to this when I was 16...I'm 39. The Smiths are always relevant.

  • @cornfed71 I'm 16 and I find that they help me through so much :) It's great to know that they've lived on, and are reaching out to everyone of all ages :)

  • @cornfed71 exactly this.

  • @cornfed71 Haha. Me too mate. Just turned 39 and still play this on the guitar. Funny seeing Shelagh Delaney on the cover there, she died today.

  • It's such a treasure when we're graced with these morbidly relatable tunes. I'm taken back to when I was so terribly lonely, and I still am. And these are the only people who make it enjoyable.

  • the guitar part at the end although being short is so, so amazing.

  • 31 people need to get their heads together to make one brain..

  • I've never spent six years on someones trail, but if I ever did, this is what it would sound like.

  • I've spent six full years of my life on this one persons trail. it's sad really.

  • 16 clumsy and shy, thats the story of my life, im 46 moz and in the days when you were hopelessly poor i just liked you more.

  • i know now why i love the the specials jam smiths oasis

  • @msangh2003 The Specials, Jam, Smiths and OASIS. Q. Can you spot the odd one out? A. Oasis, cos they're shite! How about Bauhaus, The the, Associates, Durutti Column, Banshees/Creatures, Damned, PiL, Bunnymen, Stranglers, Teardrop Explodes, Killing Joke, Psychedelic Furs, Scritti Politti, Depeche Mode, Fall, Japan, Luxuria/Magazine, Cure, Soft Cell, Cabaret Voltaire, Adam & the Ants, Madness? Oasis? Pffff!

  • @MisAnnThorpe EXACTLY not even the same league. Bauhaus started a whole trend over thirty years ago and Peter Murphy is still playing, I'm seeing him this Saturday in Sacramento. Where will noel be in 20 yrs?

  • i like it here can i stay?

  • At 31 people do not like?, is that they are crazy? ", but they have in their brains? ... is THE SMITHS.. come on!

    VIVA SMITHS - VIVA MOZ

  • i like it here can i stay :)

  • sixteen, clumsy and gay

    i fucked my brain away!

  • @falco51

lol, that's a creative version. Probably accurate.

  • I have yet to hear a song by The Smiths that I don't like.

  • @mota3147 Have you heard Northern Lights?!

  • discovering the smiths/morrissey is like hearing music for the first time. im in lovestruck and in awe. its an unequivocal love that i know will remain with me till my death

  • @slosh77

yep..you get it...smiths and moz music is something very special that not everyone understands or gets

  • @slosh77 right on, mate!

  • @slosh77 this is what the world needs.

  • @slosh77 Hear!Hear!

  • @slosh77

I remember the first time I listened to the lyrics of The Smiths- it felt almost like someone had been inside my head all these years, taken note of all the things that bothered me and turned them into music. The second half of 'That Joke isn't funny anymore' especially- I lay on the couch in my mates' garage one night, in the dark, listening to that song over and over, tears streaming down my face. It was glorious.

  • six full years ive spent...! I like it here can i stay at the ywca? holy crap! I need a girlfriend!

  • Tony Hicks put the H in Manchester...

  • THis soundss kkinda like the KILLERS LOL

  • @MarcoEsquand0las No, lol if anything the killers sound like the smiths. i also remember in an interview they said one of their biggest influences was the smiths. It just goes to show that great music influences more great music.

  • "Call me morbid, call me pale

I've spent six years on your trail

Six full years of my life on your trail

And if you have five seconds to spare

Then I'll tell you the story of my life:

    Sixteen, clumsy and shy..."

    So fricken perfect it hurts

  • Like! like! Like!!! Morrissey, You are the BEST!!!

  • best

  • Can someone explain me the idea behind this song?

English is not my native language...

  • IDK comp

  • @18123times douche

  • I can't get my head round the concept of being asexual, surely everyone is attracted to male or female, sometimes even both, but how can someone honestly say they aren't turned on by either. Sorry i just can't understand it.

  • @moewishaw He's not. For some reason he used to say that was is in the press. He's into guys, he may have dabbled here and there with women though. The lyrics in his songs are about his relationships and encounters with men (and on a few occasions, women). He isn't asexual in the least, he's had quite an interesting love life. In the 90s it was quite obvious that he fancied tough guys, like boxers.

  • @moewishaw

it's to do with our biology.

  • This is not a racial thing and I really hope it doesn't become one.

  • the soundtrack of my life..

  • my favorite album

  • morrisey is one of the best singer / song writers to come out of britan (in my opinion) and johny marr well, theres not enough space here to say what he contributed to the band hes a great bloke and one of my favorite guitarists LOVE THE SMITHS :)

  • Why would Morrissey check himself into the YWCA? I am just 16 clumsy and shy. Well I was... Being asexual is as much a blessing as it is a curse..

  • the most important band of the 20th century. Or any century, in my humble opinion.

  • i always thought it said "i went to london and died"...my wrong

  • @giub81 doesn't he say that? :| i googled the lyrics and they're also like that.

  • @flauren92

    No, he says:

    Sixteen, clumsy and shy

I went to London and I

    I booked myself in at the Y ... W.C.A.

  • @flauren92 i really don't know...

  • i like this version, seems alot more "melodic" than the other one.

  • How the fuck can 30 people not like this song?

  • @baxters250r Yes.

  • do you have a vacancy for a back scrubber?!?!?!?!?!?

  • MOZ is the King

  • @baxters250r The sum total of the Smith is greater than Morissy alone. He should never forget this.

  • The story of MY life. Started at 16 and now I'm 22. She's 22 as well.

    Some of Marr's best work.

  • @NinetiesYouth

Don't forgett to metion MORRISSEY, who wrote these genius lyrics

  • @hismastersvoice88 Oh you're right. He definitely doesn't get enough credit...

  • @FranklyMsShankley Moz and the Smiths are for anyone who doesn't fit in with the typical crowd...people who are smarter...more sensitive, poets, artists, musicians, writers, and people who don't WANT to just be part of the crowd. There is a cool video on Youtube where there is an African American woman jumping up and down with joy at a Morrissey concert...

  • Such atmosphere self-effacement unparalleled in a parallel universe... really I checked the galaxy and The Smiths ruled the UK and The Replacements ruled the US in the 80s. Paul and Morrissey are such charming men. But mediocre music always wins out on the airways when Left of the Dial is where it is at.

  • half a person - complete wanker

  • Always sends a shiver down the spine...

  • I am in love

  • i was going through such an interesting, searching time in my life when this song was in heavy rotation in my Sony Walkman....it makes me a lil bit sad, meloncholy....

  • far too long chasing your tail

  • @mysticalHeir spastic

  • slow yes but this is still the sound track for my youth aling with the cure, when i was hoplefless poor they both made me fell like i could and did live,, thanks

  • thank you smiths! this song is the story of my life!

  • what the hell? this version is like slowed down.. anyone else notice it?

  • respect. the smiths rules.

  • The smiths...this album cover is soooooo good. I wish we could all go back in time for a bit.

  • i love the smiths

  • OMG I LOVE THE SMITHS SO MUCH

  • @nelma87 Me too

  • @nelma87 Me too!
