I agree with( Zsazsapulk) thaths the way to brake them... If you want to have a good turn out you need to turn it out with your hips not knees....cuz later you will be injured for life and then you can never dance again
@mcbschool14 Russian dancers have a lot less injuries than western dancers. I know many from "both sides" and all the russians have done this from childhood. None are struggling with it now. It's a perfectly ok exercise, as long as it's done from you're little, or very carefully.
Ok I have to keep trying, I kinda get it now. You do feel the stretch from the hip though. Those girls have so much flexiblity all up and down their legs, ankles, feet, knees and all, flexiblity prevents injury. American viewers always turn into doctors. Not me though I think it's great!
haha!!!!!! that is SOO HARD!! I tried it! I can't even straighten my arms out all the way like they do and I can do quite a bit...or I thought? Dang too I thought this video was like a revealing secret for turnout, since I can't straighten my arms out I feel no stretch, just friction on my arms from the skin pulling against my legs, Ochies!!
Is this the same Studio/Company in Russia that put a 6 year old on point. If it it the dangerous practice of turning out from the knee does not suprise me from them.
Anyone who is professional in ballet training should know that there are lower turnout and upper turnout in the legs. And that is why we doing different exercises.
This is what I call being obsessed with the ends and not the means. They shouldn't be forcing their turnout like this, especially from the knees. Makes me cringe watching.

it is important to have flexibility in the ankles as well as the hips. The whole leg must be rotated. I can see the benefit of this exercise.

No, they will not mess up their knees, that is a professional exercise for 9-10 year old kids.

What professional tells anyone, of ANY age to turn out from their knees rather then from their hips?

agreed.

Agreed! This is a normal exercise. I've done it many times but never turn out from the knees, always the hips as instructed.
